GUILTY CO - Paige Birgfeld, 34, Grand Junction, 28 June 2007

So glad they have finally made an arrest! This case has haunted me.

Can't get past the fact that he was in business with the ex-husband? There is more to this story, IMHO.

Were her remains eventually released to her father? Was the issue of money missing from her home ever resolved?

Thankfully there has been an arrest. It's bewildering that it took so long to make an arrest if there's evidence on Paige's body that ties the suspect to her murder.

As of November 21st, her remains had not been released. :(:

Frank Birgfeld also said he hopes the progress in the case will also bring him closer to being able to bring Paige’s remains home. Right now they are still being held as evidence.

So glad that Paige will finally get justice. :seeya:
I hope this will help her family to heal and I hope they can get her remains soon. :twocents:

Does anyone remember the name of the company selling kitchen products? Models Inc. ... was that the name of the kitchen products franchise? Is Models Inc. her escort service? Since there were several phone calls between the suspect and Paige, and didn't he work as a firefighter next to her husband? ... is it possible that he wanted her services, she said no and upped the price (wasn't she an expensive escort?), and he decided in advance (pre-paid cell phone that was in contact with Paige = pre-meditated) to murder her ... take what he wanted without paying.

Sorry, that was a rambling thought ... too tired to think this Friday afternoon.

There were problems between Paige's father and police on two fronts. First, Paige kept a lot of cash in the house. I remember something like $60k, but it could have been more. That money was missing when police released the crime scene (her house). Secondly, police refused to release her remains.

Police have said that there is circumstantial evidence, and more. I think the phone is direct evidence ... he must have claimed ownership of the pre-paid cell phone that was found in his house. That phone is connected to Paige. Therefore, the calls from his phone to her were confirmed. That would be direct evidence, wouldn't it? If the phone belonged to someone else, then when it was found in his house, he should have said so. It's a bit late to make that claim only after proof that it is linked to Paige at the time that she was murdered. Her burned out car was found across the street from his place of work. If his tissue was found on her body/remains, that should have been tested years ago.

Frank is such a warrior for his daughter! How frustrating that he has still be unsuccessful in getting Paige's remains returned so that she can be laid to rest.

I'm not sure how much of a relationship the children have retained with their grandfather being that they live out of state with Paige's ex-H, but I hope they are able to know the great love he has for their mother!

Lester Ralph Jones, the man accused of killing mother of three Paige Birgfeld back in 2007, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on New Years Eve but his defense is asking for more time to prepare citing the huge amount all the documents to go through...

He'll be back in court in May.

A Mesa County prosecutor has moved to dismiss a charge of felony arson in the case against Paige Birgfeld's alleged killer because the statute of limitations has expired.

Well..my first try at a quote and I'm pretty sure I messed it up..sorry.
To answer your question Otto, the kitchen products company is The Pampered Chef, so I'm guessing Models inc. must have been her other business.

During Norcross' testimony audio was played of a phone conversation between the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Lester Jones.

Throughout the call Jones sounds disoriented, and at one point he offers the unsolicited phrase: "Are you asking if I buried the body?"

Excellent news!

"Jones to stand trial; Man suspected of Paige Birgfeld murder facing several felonies"

http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/articles/jones-to-stand-trial/

Mesa County District Judge Brian Flynn ruled Monday that Lester Jones should stand trial on all counts in the 2007 death of Grand Junction mother Paige Birgfeld, setting up a jury trial running anywhere from four to eight weeks in 2016.

Flynn instead scheduled a motions hearing for Oct. 15 when two key issues will be decided: Whether a jury will hear about a series of violent episodes involving Jones in 1999 in Delta County and whether Jones’ lawyers can introduce evidence at trial of an alternate suspect in Birgfeld’s killing.

A motions hearing is currently scheduled for October 16th.

Prosecutors seek to paint Paige Birgfeld’s suspected killer, Lester Ralph Jones, as a busy consumer of paid sex with a long list of Grand Valley women, and a menacing, intimidating figure to a pair of ex-wives, his own son, former co-workers and even a woman who exchanged pen-pal prison correspondence with him.

A jury should hear all of it, prosecutors argue.

The Mesa County District Attorney’s Office filed notice this week of intent to introduce evidence of “other acts” during Jones’ trial.

District Judge Brian Flynn will ultimately decide what jurors will hear. Jones’ public defenders are expected to fight admission of such testimony and have filed their own motion, asking Flynn to allow testimony of up to five alternate suspects in Birgfeld’s death.

A motions hearing is scheduled for Oct. 16.

"Other suspects considered in Birgfeld death"

http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/articles/other-suspects-considered-in-birgfeld-death

A Mesa County judge is weighing how much testimony will be allowed at trial about alternate suspects in Paige Birgfeld’s 2007 death.

Public defenders Steve Colvin and Kara Smith on Friday called witnesses suggesting three men — not including their client, 64-year-old Lester Ralph Jones — could have been responsible for Birgfeld’s death.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has insisted all were investigated, and ultimately cleared, in Birgfeld’s disappearance on June 28, 2007, and the destruction of her Ford Focus on July 1, 2007.

The next hearing is currently scheduled for December 7th.

Trial set for man accused of killing mother 8 years ago

Jones pleaded not guilty to first- and second-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping in connection with 34 year old Birgfeld's death in June 2007.

A trial is set to start on July 25 of next year.

DA, defense get wins in Jones trial - November 15th

http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/articles/da-defense-get-wins-in-jones-trial/

The jury in Lester Jones’ murder case can hear testimony about his violent episodes against an ex-wife, along with Jones’ alleged involvement with a long list of erotic massage providers in the Grand Valley, a Mesa County judge has ruled.

In another decision, District Judge Brian Flynn ruled admissible testimony about as many as five alternate suspects in the 2007 murder of Grand Junction mother Paige Birgfeld.

They got him Paige. I hope the DA has an airtight case and sends this creep away with LWOP.

I pray now you can finally rest in peace. As for her family, I know this has been a long and very tough road, which I pray will finally be over this summer and may they find the peace they so deserve.

Godspeed Paige

The Birgfeld family remind me of Jennifer Kesses family, strong pillars of their community.
