GUILTY CO - Paige Birgfeld, 34, Grand Junction, 28 June 2007

Here's a link to a 2013 piece pinned up over at the Huff,
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/19/paige-birgfeld-cold-case-review_n_3781368.html

(Lohr is the go to guy over at the huff - some ppl find him good - some don't - imo - I am with the latter)

I just re-viewed the 48 hours piece on Paige - sad as it was narrated by the great Harold Dow - who has since passed- he was truly great - one of the only anchors who could really give Keith Morrison a challenge for the #1 Anchor Ranker slot ( I have rankings on my twitter - oh and there's a pic of me - but don't tell anyone (smile)- Erin Moriarty is strong, too, and recently, Dennis Murphy has made a move -leaving Van Sant, Roberts, and Mankiewicz behind in his wake].

This is bizarre - how could the killer have been so successful? LE has not been able to crack this case - and the DA has insufficient evidence to even present to the GJ - from what I can tell.

Lester Robert Jones is the primary suspect - he was the last "call" "Carrie" made that night - both figuratively speaking aND physically ,,, so it appears to be an easy one to zero in on.

I think it would be cool to see If the mastermind geniuses at WS can pour over the evidence a little bit and make some traction on this cold case.

I will be inviting over some Mega Sleuths,,, please help!\

Love ya - always,,,

No charges have been filed against the perpetrator who was behind the murder. Mesa County authorities say this is still an active investigation.

Just finished reading through the thread
Sad story. Many of the links to media stories are no longer available.

Why are her parents unable to get her remains?
Did Jones and his wife provide some sort of alibi for the night Paige disappeared?
It seems that everything points to Jones
It almost seems too much points to him IYKWIM

I am curious if it was ever determined if the body was always where the bones were found or if it was placed there later.
The searchers feel they would not have missed seeing disturbed soil

Volunteers spent weeks searching for Paige. For them, it was mixed emotions all around. On the one hand, many were relieved and grateful Paige could finally go home to her family. But they say they searched the location where her remains were dug up around 15 times, and they're almost certain she hasn't been there for the past five years

She got a call at 10 PM the night she went missing
Car found three days later, burnt from the inside, out

Cheques and personal items scattered all over side of road
Visits her first husband the night of her disappearance and tells him she has TWO appointments that night
left her house dressed in shorts and halter type top

Lester Jones... POI and a client

His place of business is a block or so away from where Paige's burnt out car was found

There's a bit of news in the search. The GJ Sentinel reports that scent dogs have tracked a scent from her burned out car to the front door of the RV dealership where the "person of interest" Lester Ralph Jones just so happens to work.

It seems the scent was picked up by July 1

Question...

Jones was a client
Where did they meet up?
Could she have been at his place of business another day to meet up with him?

Does anyone know if anything of interest was found in Jones home after the searches?

Based on the fact that there has been no conviction in this case, is it safe to assume that no evidence was found?

My guess is that they have no motive or cause of death. Jones probably has lawyered up, and isn't talking. Perhaps the prosecutor doubts they can win a conviction because of the stigma attached to people in the sex industry. And going out on a limb, maybe someone in high places can be connected as a client...her cell records may come out in court... Just thinking out loud.

After just watching 48 Hours again, I have seen cases brought to the grand jury for less than what they seem to have against Lester Ralph Jones. I doubt anything new will come to the surface. I hope they go for it soon. Seems to be a year since the last activity by the state to reconvene, from what I can find.

I agree.
After all these years, what new information would come out?

I don't understand the remains not being given to the family
Wouldn't all testing be complete ?
What would be the benefit of keeping her from her family after all of these years?
Surely all forensics would be done and recorded.

I can see them retaining anything found with the body, but its seems wrong that Paige cannot be put to rest.

Unless this has since happened?

Does anyone know what has happened to the large amount of money found in her home
Is that still in the hands of LE?

I admit, i have not read everything in the link above, yet

It seems like there has been an exceptional number of arrests in seemingly cold cases this year! This is great news; I hope the family can rest a little easier now.
