Murder Case Of Grandmother, Toddler In Adams County Goes Cold

Rae Lynn and Fabian Gonzales (credit: Gonzales Family)

''According to police, the child and his grandmother were both stabbed inside the apartment above where the two lived with the child’s mother, Felicia Gonzales.

Initially police were only calling 18-month-old’s death a homicide and it was assumed Raelynn Gonzales killed him, but now her death is also ruled as a homicide. Months later the family still wants to know what happened inside the apartment.

Police say their leads have gone cold and they need more tips to solve the crime.

Felicia Gonzales told CBS4 she came home to both her mother and baby dead. She said she was only gone for a few hours, and in that time frame the murders happened.''

''The revelation that both were murdered came as no surprise to the family. They never believed the grandmother could have committed the crime.

“Just imagine there’s somebody out there right now that did this and is capable of doing it again,” said Sonny Cisneros, Raelynn Gonzales’ son-in-law.

The family says Raelynn Gonzales had no enemies and whoever walked into the apartment did not force entry. There was also food cooking on the stove. The baby was found in his playpen.

“He was just a baby. He was barely learning to walk, he could barely talk. It’s just horrible. Who could harm an innocent baby?” said Dawn Gonzales, Felicia Gonzales’ sister.

“The detective said they could hide all they want. They could skip states, skip country, but they’re going to get found,” Cisneros said.''

''Gonzales is the mother of 18-month-old Fabian and the daughter of Raelynn Gonzales. She spoke to CBS News Colorado back in 2014, days after Raelynn and Fabian were found stabbed to death inside their home in the 2800 block of W. 66th Place on Jan. 3.

"A monster who could hurt a baby. There's a monster walking out there somewhere free," said Dawn Gonzales, another one of Raelynn's daughters.

The question as to who could have killed the two has kept the Gonzales family-focused, even after 10 years. ''

''Martinez says with newer DNA technology and the ability to communicate better, faster and farther with the public, they are hopeful new information will be brought to light.''

Hi, sharing some actions I have taken towards solving this case.
>So far I have looked at the location on Google Maps. You know what is interesting? Going in one direction on Google Maps had current photos. Turning around had a photo from 2011. So that may be a tip to help others in their cases. It does not help this case as it is 3 years before they moved in.

>I also searched Facebook posts mentioning the victims. I was able to glean information about family members and non-suspects. Some of it was news not reported by the media but only in the comments.

>A Google search of the street names in the area produced little results. I was hoping to find forums or community newsletters. There was none in this search. I could only find a developmental planning for the area which probably has nothing to do with the case.

Other Ideas I have had to find more information -by the way, why are the police so tight lipped? Details of the case should be shared to find the suspect, no? But not to give away specifics so law enforcement can convict the suspect(s).

What else can be done? I will look for forums and neighborhood specific posts next in 2014. I also want to check newspaper archives. Maybe there is something, like the next step of a staircase, if the top of the staircase is the resolution, to this case.

I don't want to break forum rules. But I was thinking maybe to post in free classifieds "Looking for information on (insert case here). Please send email to (insert case specific email address here)" type of ad. That may lead to something. I also think people would be more inclined to tip off a civilian than a legal agency.

I look forward to meeting other Web Sleuthers and working here and with you! Cheers!

18 months old…at that age, he wouldn’t have been able to identify the perpetrator. What a senseless and cruel act.
for this reason, i wonder if the baby was the primary target, and grandma was collateral. im sure LE has touched base w the babys father...

Re: the google maps etc, if you want general info on the area I may be able to help.

If I have the exact location right (which I’m almost positive I do) I live like three miles from there and actually drove past it twice today.

Federal’s reputation for the most part is worse than the reality, but that specific area is legitimately rugged. It’s on a stretch that’s for sure the worst part of Federal on the north side.

Or grandma was the primary . Either way. why murder an old woman and her grandbaby? Lets not forget this is a 2014 crime.

I live in Denver and I think about this case all the time. When I first heard this story, it was just a small blurb about Grandma and toddler, in high chair, “found dead”. No mention of murder. My Spidey senses went up immediately. It reminds me of the Maggie Long case in Bailey where they said she was “missing” when in fact they had her body and she was raped and burned to death. I’m surprised the family didn’t run to any news agency that will listen.
