Dismembered body parts found on Coney Island
"New York City have discovered a human leg on Coney Island beach in Brooklyn, and authorities reportedly believe they are more body parts in the vicinity."

"On Thursday, divers from the NYPD reportedly returned to the area and found a human left leg stuck in rocks near the New York Aquarium, along with a set of keys. Additional body parts were visible but the divers have been unable to retrieve them.

The search effort is expected to continue at some point this weekend, according to the New York Post."

Police find human leg, other body parts in Coney Island beach
A human leg was found Thursday in Coney Island — and cops believe there’s even more remains stuck in a jetty next to the aquarium, according to police sources.

“We think there may be more,” a source told The Post. “They can see it’s in [the rocks].”

Authorities had been alerted to the body parts by a recreational diver, who spotted them on Saturday. They tried recovering the remains later that day, but conditions were too bad

NYPD scuba divers recovered partial bones from the water off Coney Island — two days after finding a lower leg in the same area, police sources said Sunday.

The remains — along with a black belt — were found at Riegelmann Boardwalk and West 5th Street around 6:30 p.m. Saturday — two days after divers discovered a left leg stuck in the rocks nearby, the sources said.

Strangely difficult to find updates for this case, but more body parts have been found in August..
Decomposed Body Parts Keep Appearing by the Brighton Beach Boardwalk - Shorefront News

There’s something in the water around here, and that something seems to be decomposed body parts.

Coney-Island.jpg

In July a recreational diver on Brighton Beach noticed a human leg at Riegelmann Boardwalk and West 5th Street. Two days later, more body parts were found by scuba divers at the same location. This week a body was found outside the water.

According to the Brooklyn Paper, police “officers surrounded the construction site by New York Aquarium, where workers had torn down a wall that blocks off an old, unused walkway to the beach under the boardwalk. She suspects that the workers found the body in the closed-off pathway.”

“The body was characterized as considerably decomposed,” an NYPD police spokesman said.

Did they find out if it was all from the same body?

Nothing new.
BREAKING NEWS: Human Leg Found off Coney Island Beach
Margaret Hetherman
Jul 12, 2019
''Police first began searching for body parts over the weekend, following a 911 call on Saturday morning, a NYPD spokesperson confirmed. The search ensued after a male recreational diver reported seeing what he believed to be a submerged corpse in the water near the rocky jetty by Riegelmann Boardwalk & West 5th Street. A city employee on location on Sunday indicated that the body was believed to be headless, and that the diver had reached out to see what the object was, happening upon a limb and torso. The worker also said that the body was believed to have been in that location for about three months.

A set of keys was also found by the jetty, which may or may not be linked to the leg, according to police.''

A few days after my sons' 8th birthday, which we held at Luna Park on June 2019 dismembered body parts were found in the ocean at Coney Island. They were in stuck in the jetty by the aquarium. The first thought I had was, I wonder if they were they remains of another victim of LISK. I know it sounds improbable, but could they have changed dumping sites? I'm going to search for articles on the found remains. Any thoughts?

Weird, they just found a decomposed body on Coney island last night.

Bound and Gagged Body Found Under Coney Island Boardwalk: Cops

This is interesting....

Thank you BellaCobb68 for posting this, and welcome!

I do not know if it could be tied to LISK, but it is in an area that runs westward from the general Gilgo area into Brooklyn, south side of Brooklyn, by the water. I know the area well, unfortunately. I know where the aquarium is, and with the construction that used to be going on there (not sure if it still is, haven't been to Brooklyn in a few years), it would be a rather abandoned place at night to dump. You would likely have to be somewhat familiar with the area to know that. Also, proximity to Coney Island--that entire strip of beaches is fairly quiet at night, in some parts, very quiet. There is boardwalk not only by Coney Island, but running down through Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach, from what I can remember (don't quote me, though!) Many of my friends, including me, would hang out there at night in the summer if it was nice weather, because there was a nice cool breeze coming off the water. Pockets of late teens/young adults having a few beers, some smoking marijuana, but never when I was there did the police bother anyone or kick them out.

Interesting.

Here is a thread, already started on Websleuths about the case you're talking about:

NY - NY - Coney Island beach,Brooklyn,Human leg, likely more body parts, July 2019

Right time of year...

Worse, I just found this:

Bound and gagged body found under Coney Island boardwalk

Another body just found under the boardwalk.

We must have been writing at the same time, Lizzied! Great catch!

This new body is right by the aquarium, too. If you Google Maps it, it is there in the vicinity of the body parts found, as posted by OP.

The things of interest to me, at this point:
1. Bodies by beach/water
2. Season/time of year
3. Remains could be male--but that does not matter to me, especially if Sugar Bear and Asian Male are taken into account
4. First body - dismembered, at least partially according to what I've read so far, disposal method, as with older murders
5. New body - whole and bound/gagged. This suggests to me kidnapping or possible S/M connection
6. Familiar with the area - This person, if responsible for both, would have to be familiar with that area, to place the body in an area concealed by Boardwalk. Those who know the area, including me, know that one would go most often under the Boardwalk to pee in an emergency, some would go to do drugs. For romantic reasons--not so likely in the last 40 years. Would want the body to be found, but not too quick. Smell would make it possibly discoverable, or discoverable by someone wandering in that area to pee/do drugs. The killer could be excited by thinking about the person/people finding it by surprise and being traumatized (maybe, just throwing out thoughts)
7. "Larger" geographic area of South Shore of Long Island (if you take away borough boundaries and see Long Island as a whole geographic piece, going out all the way into Brooklyn)

It should be looked into whether this is a pocket of isolated killings, and if they are related to drug/gang/organized crime (Russian mafia was known to be in that area, I don't know about now) involvement.

However; bound and gagged I can't see as being a straight hit on someone, binding and gagging someone I would think as being done by someone more sadistic, or who enjoys having control over the person. Just my thoughts.

I'm sorry for OP having a happy celebration in memory clouded by such events. I remember Luna Park well, and the surrounding area. It was a nice place to go in the last few years, especially after they revamped some things. It's a shame, and sad.

I'll look to see if there are reports of other killings in that general area, I hope others do the same, and we can all post if we find other stuff.

Body1.jpg Signature.jpg SouthStatePoem.jpg Gilgo.jpg In the meantime, before we figure out if these are connected, the posts there brought me back to several things, in my own experience. This could be just PTSD related for me, but I am sharing, in case there does wind up being a connection somewhere between my original POI, these bodies, and the ones on Long Island.

Back ca. 2003, my POI did some "artwork" of a hog-tied/tied up androgynous being without hands and "poetry" and shared them with me, I am attaching, here, (along with his "artist signature") and along with a photo he colorized and printed with a blue/green wash of the Gilgo area, about 3 years before the bodies were found. He had done other artwork of dismembered bodies. My POI knew the Coney Island area well, and we had friends in the Trump buildings over there. I think that's why I'm getting triggered.

After he started stalking me, and being that a small portion of it was online with music, I remember I posted on my Facebook at the time the song "What You Want" by Evanescence, because I was pissed off. We had been to the beach together, there. The end of the video for that song features Coney Island, prominently.

@Bose --these documents are very compelling. I'm particularly struck by the sketch of the hog-tied person, but in totality, they tell a story--and a very disturbed one, at that.

Have you submitted them to the FBI and/or SCPD?

Not that I believe these days that even credible tips are getting consideration (sorry, my skepticism showing), but you just never know...

someone close to me works at the precinct on west 8th street — roughly 3 blocks away from where this happened in Coney. The body was discovered by a group of homeless people. They pulled down a portion of the wire fencing, crawled under the boardwalk, and pushed down a partition wall. They went down there in hope of increasing the size of their encampment. The body was found behind the partition wall. It was completely skeletal in nature, thought to have been there a long time, and possibly male due to the fact it was found dressed in a pair of men’s basketball shorts. If I find out any additional info, I will let you guys know.

Also want to add CI is a hot spot for gang violence, namely the Bloods. It’s also been used as a dumping ground for the Italian mob.
