Wonder when the next unstable youngster is going to "top" this massacre. As much as I want to know what happened...I don't think it is such a good idea to broadcast it on National TV.. IMO it may provoke another unstable person to "do a better job".

I know, my husband said something like this yesterday. Wondering if the shooting in Portland at a mall was any kind of a impulse to show he could "do better." Who knows?

I don't know of anywhere that allowed the institutionalizing of anyone indefinitely. The fact is that there are little to NO mental health resources now in most communities.

Abuses are certainly horrible and there have been abuses found in VA hospitals but nobody is thinking of solving the abuse problem by closing them all down.

I think the protection of innocents trumps the rights of mentally-ill people who need protection from themselves.

JMO

Look up some of the cases that the ACLU filed.

They were landmark cases concerning the rights of the mentally ill.

There were also many patients who were dropped off at these places and died there. Also note that some patients weren't even mentally ill but misdiagnosed.

There is a lot of material about this online.

Now do I think treatment is lacking? Absolutely.

The one man I feared while I worked at an E.R. was a schizophrenic patient. And what do you know, he ended up pulling a knife on the doctor one day.......they would hold this man for three days then release him due to laws. It wasn't enough. I still remember his whole name ..and this was 20years ago.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...am-Lanza-rigged-rifle-for-maximum-damage.html

Adam Lanza planned his murderous rampage with meticulous precision, destroying his computer's hard-drive to hinder investigators and rigging his semi-automatic rifle "Rambo-style" to fire with maximum efficiency.

I have no idea of its veracity but it is MSM I think.

Does that mean he removed the 'pin' inside the gun so that he didn't have to repeat pull the trigger, but just hold it down and spray bullets? That combined with reports of hundreds of rounds found at the scene sounds like early reports of him spraying bullets were correct. :furious:

No clue, but if article is true, it is chilling to consider.

Lanza taped together two cartridge magazines to his Bushmaster .223 calibre rifle so that he could flip between the two with speed and ease, The Daily Telegraph has been told.

Wayne Carver, the Connecticut medical examiner, said Lanza used a technique known to gun enthusiasts as "jungle-taping". This helps explain how the killer was able to wreak so much carnage in a shooting spree that may have lasted barely five minutes.

Description of tecnique allegedly used.

I could have sworn that I saw a handcuffed gentleman being walked up behind one of the cars being searched by a trooper with a rifle. White car, in the parking lot.... Looking for a link now.

Or he taped the gun magazines end to butt so he just pulled it out and flipped it. This guy has 3 taped together.

Thanks JBean, but it was said the man taken in handcuffs from the school just after the shootings said he didn't do it and was heard by onlookers, media, not sure whom. It further said he was smiling as he spoke.

Yes, there was definitely someone cuffed and on the ground at the school. One of the boys interviewed mentioned seeing him in handcuffs as they left for the fire department. I've wondered what that was about myself.

For some reason, I can't quote (methinks I have a virus, it makes this thing go completely haywire sometimes).

I intended to have a quote here from the poster that referenced topping other shootings and mass murders. When I first read about this shooting, that was literally my first thought. AL was trying to "top" someone else, or prove that he could do it "better".

Just my observation, and please don't be offended by the way I phrased that. There is nothing "good" or "right" or "better" about this at all, but that's the only way I can put it.

THe handcuffed guy at the school would have been the guy they found in the woods that morning. I have seen no verifiaction of who he was. It was originally speculated that it was someone from a nearby home that heard the shooting and rushed toward it, or someone that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and had no idea what was going on.

Nobody wants to say it, but President Obama pronounced the name of the town as "Newton." A couple of us looked at each other and said, "...of all times you would think to get the name of a community right and...
Noooo! Not my man B.! lolol

The first article I linked in the original post had it as "Newton." Silly me - a minor in journalism and I didn't even remember that, to report information, one strives for accuracy by first learning it from two independent sources.

Let's not forget the "mentally challenged" woman recently ( less than a year I believe) that stabbed to deatha Canadian woman and her mother to death right outside the casino.

She should have been locked away somewhere for the sake of the public.

IMO
