http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/newssun/top/w23birdlady.htm Longtime bird lover and rehabilitator Naomi Mitchell was found guilty Friday of violating a Fox Lake ordinance by feeding migratory waterfowl, and given a sentence of 60 days court supervision and a $25 fine. Within seconds after proceedings ended, several supporters had handed the 77-year-old woman more than enough cash to pay the fine. "I'm still going to feed my swan," Mitchell said, referring to an injured bird she cares for as she walked out of the Lake County Circuit Court branch in Grayslake. ............... Johnson indicated some reluctance in sentencing Mitchell for feeding migratory waterfowl, but said the case had been proven and the ordinance had been violated. "You're probably the nicest person I've ever met other than my wife or my mother, but that's not the issue," Johnson said. "Is it a nice thing to do to feed birds? Of course. On the other hand, do I realize there is fallout from such action? Of course."
