Coronavirus COVID-19 - Global Health Pandemic #111

Abrysvo and I didn’t have any side effects
Thank you. I've been researching RSV vaccines and have seen reports of fainting following the injection. Many years ago, I fainted when I got my first flu shot and avoided getting them for years after that. Nurse told me to sit in the waiting room and brought me orange juice. I was fine after 20 minutes. I always make sure that I am well-hydrated before getting shots and will make sure I've eaten prior to getting the RSV vaccine.

I have an appointment at my pharmacy to get the new COVID-19 Pfizer booster (Comirnaty), on Monday morning and I’m excited about it:)

I had influenza and RSV vaccines last month

I had to look up what Comirnaty means:
“The name is coined from Covid-19 immunity, and then embeds the mRNA in the middle, which is the platform technology, and as a whole the name is meant to evoke the word community,”…

Comirnaty is Pfizer and BioNTech's New Vaccine Brand Name | Fierce Pharma

Update:
I got the new COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine this morning
No side effects
:)

As usual, the new covid vaccine is delayed arriving in our rural part of Oregon, at the other end of the state from the Portland metro area. Our Public Health Department claimed manufacturing delays are the reason. Our doctor’s office doesn’t know when it will arrive. Rite Aid Pharmacy said in a couple of weeks. They do have the flu and RSV vaccines, so I have a decision to make. I’ll do some research, but has anyone gotten those two together? It looks like @dmac did. How did it go?

From what I have heard from experts you should get the RSV vaccine separate from the others. You can google to see if that info is correct.

Yes, that’s what the CDC kind of recommends, although they do dance around whether to give RSV with the flu vaccine. It looks like I’ll be getting each one separately, as I want the flu vaccine soon and our covid vax arrival is delayed.

Administration of RSV vaccine on the same day with other adult vaccines is acceptable. However, according to results of coadministration studies of RSV vaccines with influenza vaccines, common side effects, such as fever and soreness at the injection site, may be increased when these two vaccines are administered on the same day. Some studies also suggest it’s possible that the RSV and flu vaccines may not produce as strong of an immune response if they’re given on the same day, but the clinical significance of this is unknown. Additional research is ongoing to further inform guidance on same-day administration of the RSV vaccine and other adult vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine.

My sister lives in Aurora, CO, and she had two appointments at different places, for the updated Covid vaccine, and when she got there, they didn’t have them yet
The third appointment today at yet a different place, was a success though

Yes I did get the flu and RSV vaccines on the same day- I didn’t have any side effects

I noticed the information here today that the immune response may be less that way- I didn’t know that at the time, but I’d take it into consideration next time

Thanks @dmac55. I’m glad your sister was able to get her covid vaccine. I think I’ll do the RSV separately and do the covid and flu together when the covid arrives.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine tested positive for Covid-19 today. He thought he had a head cold at first, but then the symptoms worsened and he did a covid test. He tested positive, with a fever of 101. He isn't young, and I hope he is resting and doing better.

One of Ohio's Members of Congress, Representative Marcy Kaptur, also tested positive for Covid-19 today. She isn't young, either. They are both seniors, and I also hope she is resting and doing better.

The current difficulty finding an appointment at a location that actually has it, is reminding me a little of the very first covid vaccine and trying to get one of those appts was like trying to get tickets to a sold out concert by being the 432nd caller with the correct answer to a radio station

CINCINNATI —
Beginning next week, Cincinnati Children's Hospital is requiring all staff members to wear masks in clinical and public areas of all campuses due to the increased spread of respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, RSV and the flu.

The hospital confirmed that all staff members will be required to wear masks effective on Sept. 25.

great! I am so glad I am not the only one. Last Friday I went online and made an appt this Monday for the updated shot. I was so happy that I located my old Covid card. I had a printed out confirmation of the appt. When I went in Monday, the pharmacy had no shots and said I was not in their computer system. They directed me to another pharmacy- I was told there that they had only limited availability and I was not in their system...so, no better and possibly worse than the previous rounds of vaccines. And not free either.

Free COVID tests will be available next week

The US government will relaunch a program to provide free Covid-19 home tests to Americans, US Department of Health and Human Services said Wednesday.

“We will once again begin our program to provide Americans with an opportunity to request tests,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said during an event at a Washington CVS Pharmacy where he was vaccinated against Covid-19 and flu.

US households can order four free tests from Covidtests.gov starting September 25

well this morning I woke up with a sore throat-- haven't been sick in 8 years! could be a cold, could be Covid- I got my hair done on Tuesday and my stylist has a cold ( at least he thinks it is a cold): he masked up and so did I but still- I have not been vaccinated in over a year- I am going to look for a place to get tested---

I hope it’s not Covid! Strep throat making the rounds in my area, students and teachers out both. Local pediatrician mentioned seeing large increase in strep since the pandemic

Trying to figure out if I should get tested right away- with new sore throat or wait a day or two to see if or what more symptoms develop. Even the PCR test as accurate as it is, may not reveal a positive test this early. I could get the Rapid Atigen Test at CVS but I don't think is nearly as accurate as the PCR, especially early in the development of Covid.

I hope it isn't but I have not been vaccinated in 14 months- I would hope that there is still protection from the four shots I had but I don't know that for sure

Do you have a home test to take?
Maybe that would test positive and then you would take a Rapid to be 100 percent?

ETA-I hope you feel better very soon!

Went to get tested at Urgent Care: had Rapid antigen which was negative but they also did PCR which takes 48 hours so we shall see: they told me their Rapid Antigen tests are pretty accurate-- The doctor told me sore throats are going around so apparently there are different viruses out there-- Hoping it is not Covid- Thank you for your kind thoughts
