Child Abuse Reports Drop 70% In 1 Month, Leaving Oregon Officials Concerned
March 28, 2020

“Most abuse and neglect reports come from people who are designated as “mandatory reporters,” such as teachers and other staff that are frequently around children in schools, he said. Other mandatory reporters include doctors, dentists and licensed therapists.

“When a child is at school, they’re spending a significant portion of the day with mandatory reporters that are trained and expected to be hyper-aware of the signs of abuse and neglect,” he said. “Kids across Oregon are not in school right now, so they’re missing that time around mandatory reporters.””

These children will be out of sight from those who keep vigil.
This is the most awful ramification of the pandemic.

Colorado confirms 13 more deaths related to coronavirus as positive cases top 2,000

At least 44 people have died in Colorado in connection with COVID-19, with an additional 274 hospitalized. There are also 10 outbreaks at residential and nonhospital health care facilities.

The new numbers come a day after Polis offered grave predictions and a stark call to action, estimating thousands of Coloradans could die if strong physical distancing measures are not followed.

In the meantime, cases will continue to climb as hospitals gird for a possible surge in patients.

‘Explosive spread’ of coronavirus in Georgia likely to worsen

Officials confirm 10 deaths in seven hours after Kemp aide decries ‘doomsday’ projections.

“The media and some in the medical profession are peddling these doomsday models and projections,” Kemp’s top aide, Tim Fleming, wrote Saturday. “This has in turn resulted in people panicking and local governments across our state overreacting. As a result of their overreach, many small businesses will struggle and some will not reopen.”

Fleming’s remarks appear to conflict with the position of the state’s own public health officials, who say the outbreak is likely to worsen without aggressive social distancing measures.

"I'm very proud of our citizen-sailors today," he said.”

Coronavirus cases climb in rural US cities popular with tourists

But while the rapidly rising number of cases in Los Angeles and New Orleans has drawn much attention, the virus is also spreading exponentially in cities like Chicago, Detroit and St. Louis.

At the same time, some rural counties in Georgia, Colorado, Utah and Idaho are recording some of the highest rates per capita in the nation, threatening to overwhelm local hospitals unprepared for the onslaught.

Missouri saw a 600% jump in virus cases this week.

Louisiana added 569 cases overnight, to reach 3,315 confirmed infections, and 36 more people died, bringing the total to 137.

Kansas will be the latest state under a stay-at-home order on Monday.

Wondering about this 'spreading' of the virus. Flightradar tweeted a pic of all the planes flying at 7:30am this morning.

"Of the 4800 flights we're currently tracking worldwide, two-thirds are seen in this image. Normally, we would be tracking about 13,000 flights right now."

465 New Coronavirus Cases in Illinois Total to 3,491 With 47 Deaths

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot warned that the city could see upwards of 40,000 hospitalizations in the coming weeks and as U.S. health experts worry Cook County could become one of the nation's next hotspots.

"Forty thousand hospitalizations. Not 40,000 cases, but 40,000 people who require acute care in a hospital setting," Lightfoot said. "That number will break our healthcare system... This will push our city to the brink."

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he would sue Rhode Island if they did not roll back a policy of stopping all cars with New York license plates, but that he expects the two states will be able to work it out amicably.

"That clearly is unconstitutional," Cuomo said, adding he understands Rhode Island's goal of trying to slow the spread of coronavirus.

"But there's a point of absurdity, and I think what Rhode Island did is at the point of absurdity. Again, it is not even legal," he said.

No state should be using police to prohibit interstate travel in any way, Cuomo said.

Okay, other countries work this differently: all touristic places are closed and all non residents requested to go home (we are renting a house and had someone who wanted to stay). Even owners of home are not allowed to go to check. The point is that those comunities have only resources for their residents plus some light other cases in normal times. In our case the bridge to the island is monitored and you may be stopped.
All citizens are requested not to travel except for essential business or if comuting to work, the police is checking this. As we live at 3 states border, we have a note from employer that we can show if stopped for check.

“"Our understanding is that TCF Center will become a 'temporary field hospital," North American International Auto Show chairman Doug North told The Detroit News.”

“The 2020 North American International Auto Show in Detroit has been canceled this year because the Federal Emergency Management Agency chose the TCF Center to become a field hospital for COVID-19 cases for at least six months.”

South Carolina Coronavirus Update: 121 New Cases, 660 Total Cases, 15 Deaths

SCDHEC has acknowledged that supply shortages have severely limited its testing capabilities.

Also, not everyone experiencing potential coronavirus symptoms is getting testing – and beyond that, we keep hearing from many South Carolinas who believe they had the virus long before governments in this country began tracking cases.

According to the agency, “this high number of cases is due to reporting cases from a backlog that had developed at (SC)DHEC’s public health laboratory due to a nationwide shortage in the chemicals required for performing testing.”

“But the situation in Italy stands apart from others in the West, because the outbreak has been going on longer, and because more than 6,300 health care workers have already contracted the virus, according to the national health service, thinning the ranks of medical personnel. Facilities are short on protective equipment for employees.”

"However, the percentage rise in new invections in Italy-- 7.4 per cent --was the lowest yet."

This is certainly hopeful news. An earlier post here stated that ICU needs peak four weeks after new cases peak, so it isn't unexpected to see such a high death rate while new cases fall.

Italy has suffered greatly and it seems that the sorrow isn't stopping soon. :'(
