Snipped for brevity. BBM. Who would monitor this and where would they put these people during the 14-day quarantine?

    GEORGIA

Georgia support groups find new ways to connect during coronavirus
Recovering addicts are finding new ways to stay connected and sober despite weeks of isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.

    [...]

Much of the country is closed or shut in for social distancing, as thousands of recovering addicts are still in need of their lifelines like alcoholics or narcotics anonymous.

"Isolation, fear, stress, these can all be triggers for folks in recovery," Whitney said.

Thanks to The Connection, the same understanding ears who empathized the same understanding ears who empathized in person are neatly listed in a virtual calendar and available in a new way.

"We can still see each other the same way we would in a meeting setting," he said.

    Organizers say it's working.

Remembering Jr. High choir practice. Small room, large volume of students. Choir director faced us and walked throughout the room while singing with us. It would be the perfect opportunity for droplets and aerosolized particles to be projected into the air.

Forty-five of 60 participants in that choir may have been sickened. That demonstrates vividly just how contagious Covid-19 could be.

AA, NA etc meetings are a lifeline for so many who suffer from the disease of addiction. I so hope many groups are able to have virtual meetings. Isolation is a huge trigger.

@Backstroke10, You can probably find more information about the Florida checkpoints and mandatory quarantines for out-of-state travelers on the Florida CoVid site or the governor's website. Sorry I don't have an answer to your question. MOO

    NEW JERSEY

State police leader ‘overstated’ the number of N.J. cops who’ve tested positive for coronavirus
A total of 163 law enforcement officers in New Jersey have tested positive for the coronavirus, the New Jersey State Police said on Sunday in retracting a much-higher figure provided a day earlier.

Col. Patrick Callahan, acting superintendent of the State Police, told reporters at a press conference Saturday that about 700 officers had tested positive.

    [...]

However, 1,272 officers in New Jersey are quarantined and 1,435 are “out for other reasons,” State Police said.

MN checking in. I think they have done good preparing and testing. Mayo was off and running with their own tests and labs as soon as it kicked in. Am close to many Mayo employees who were worried back in Jan about the impending issues. I think MN will weather this better than most states. Also, one big beef Mayo nurses had was patients stealing PPE back in late Feb early March. Wasn't necessarily a lack of preparedness of the facility as much as people waiting in the room for a consultation stuffing pockets full of the available masks and gloves...sometimes even employees taking from the stock rooms.

I am completely befuddled by this use of resources by Florida - with some beaches still open and no state wide lock downs - yet 4,000+ cases and rapidly rising - resources are being put into policing the highways into the state? [whispers: the calls are coming from inside the house!] MOO

Thanks PommyMommy. I’ve been hopping on and off of this thread (it gets scary, sad and depressing at times :() so I was thinking that I had possibly missed something about how they will do this mandatory quarantine. Thanks for the information and I just wish everyone would stay home as much as possible. MOO

You are right, it is very difficult to monitor. We have had 14-day quarantine here for a couple of weeks now ... for any travellers entering our country and for residents returning home.

We initially learned (due to the difficulty in monitoring) to make people register the address where they would be quarantining, and then they would be randomly spot checked by visiting police.
As of two days ago, travellers are now obliged to quarantine at specific hotels and security guards ensure that the travellers honour the quarantine period.

Of course, this is only possible because most of our states have closed their state lines (borders) so the status of people crossing those state lines is checked.

The good news is that it appears to be working fairly well now, as far as we can tell, because signs are indicating that our outbreaks are 'flattening'.

I don’t understand it either. Considering there is no way to enforce it, it seems like a total waste of resources. Also, there are so many tractor trailers traveling back and forth. Will this slow them down? MOO

[IMG] LA Convention Center to become mammoth field hospital in fight against coronavirus – Daily News
The Los Angeles Convention Center will become a field hospital to help relieve the pressures brought on by the novel coronavirus pandemic, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Sunday, March 29, in the information-packed latest edition of his evening livecasts.

A team from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services — alongside 30 members of the US National Guard — helped equip the convention halls with medical supplies and cots, Garcetti said.

Ken Shimura, a veteran slapstick comedian and a one-time member of rock and roll band and comedy group the Drifters, a household name in Japan in the 1970s and 1980s, died of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus Sunday, his agency said Monday. He was 70.
