I bet you're right. That makes much more sense than simply not accepting IDs that expired during the pandemic. Good thinking.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced he is extending Louisiana’s stay-at-home order through May 15, saying some regions of the state haven’t shown enough progress to lessen widespread restrictions on businesses and public gatherings. But if the state’s rate of infections continues to decrease, the governor said he expects he will begin to loosen constraints on May 16, with churches and more retailers allowed to open statewide at that time, including hair and nail salons and some restaurant dine-in services.

As Louisiana extends coronavirus stay-home order, what are other states doing? Here's a list

    Snipped.

The people have the power to loosen the restrictions sooner rather than later.

Stay apart, wear a mask: Economy and public spaces will open up.

Gather groups, ignore healthy practices: Cases and deaths will go up.

This is on us. Take responsibility, people.

    other States:

Gov. Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island said her goal is still to lift the state’s stay-at-home order on May 8 and the next day start a “slow and methodical and careful” economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Honolulu (Hawaii) Mayor Kirk Caldwell has extended the stay-at-home order for the state’s largest city through May 31.

Kansas City’s (Missouri) stay-at-home order is scheduled to continue through May 15.

New Hampshire's stay-at-home order expires May 4, but Gov. Chris Sununu said there likely will be further extensions.

Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina has extended a statewide stay-at-home order until May 8 and closed schools for the rest of the semester.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California last week allowed hospitals to resume scheduled surgeries. But Newsom said the state’s broader stay-at-home order won’t be lifted until the state can dramatically increase its testing capacity. Some rural counties are seeking to ease restrictions and some in the San Francisco Bay Area are extending them through the end of May.

Gov. Ned Lamont has said he’ll start thinking about reopening Connecticut’s economy on May 20. Before that happens they must be 14 days of declining hospitalizations, much greater testing capability and more masks and other personal protective equipment for workers who interact with the public.

Gov. Charlie Baker of Massachusetts has said it’s too early to begin reopening the state’s economy.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico has said the state is likely to extend major social distancing and business restrictions through May 15. The state has no deadline or date for starting its first phase of reopening the economy.

Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia has said state’s stay-at-home order in effect through June 10 could be changed and has not outlined a specific timeline for reopening businesses. Northam has said he generally agrees with federal guidelines recommending a phased-in approach starting after 14 days of declining cases.

The health secretary for Wisconsin's Gov. Tony Evers has extended the state’s stay-at-home order closing most nonessential businesses until May 26.

Gov. Janet Mills of Maine has said her administration is planning a phased reopening but the timing remains uncertain because of a lack of adequate testing.

As Louisiana extends coronavirus stay-home order, what are other states doing? Here's a list

Arizona will extend its “Stay home, stay healthy, stay connected order” until May 15 with modifications, Gov. Doug Ducey announced

I read this, and think that it is very relevant:

"We may all be in the "same boat" in the "Pandemic Storm". But some of us are in large, secure boats, while others are clinging to a leaky raft". So true.

Judge orders ICE to release detainees from Florida detention centers

A federal judge ordered ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to release detainees from three South Florida detention centers, saying it is a “cruel and unusual punishment” and a violation of the detainees’ rights to be kept in facilities that don’t practice social distancing and don’t provide them with masks or cleaning supplies.

According to the court order, ICE has seven days to determine who can be released given their health and immigration status, along with their criminal history.

The facilities concerned are the Krome Detention Center in Miami, the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach, and the Glades County Detention Center in Moore Haven.

According to the order, these are civil detainees, not criminals.

ICE will also have to provide a report to the court within three days outlining how it will reduce the population of detainees to 75% of capacity at each of the detention centers within two weeks. ICE is also ordered to file weekly reports providing information about the number of detainees released and their health.

China’s Hubei province will lower its coronavirus emergency response level from the highest level starting on May 2.

This, along with a strict lockdown and fast treatment of patients, has allowed Hubei to lower the emergency response level for the first time since January 24.

Remdesivir maker 'moving very quickly' with FDA on possible coronavirus use, CEO says

    May 1, 2020

The maker of Remdesivir, an experimental drug for treatment of the coronavirus, is moving very quickly with the FDA for authorization to get the drug to patients, the CEO of the company, Gilead Sciences, said Friday.

Gilead is also working to expand its capacity for producing remdesivir, CEO Daniel O'Day told TODAY in an exclusive interview.

The company thinks it could make millions of treatment courses available by the end of the year, O'Day said. Its production capacity has already gone from 5,000 treatment courses to 100,000, he said

    Video link below.

Russia reported 7,933 new coronavirus cases on Friday -- its biggest single-day jump in cases so far.

The spike comes a day after Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin appeared on state television informing President Vladimir Putin by video conference that he'd tested positive for the virus.

Seems like an easy fix - just hire an interpreter and do it right from this point forward.

The Navajo Nation recorded 164 new cases of the coronavirus and nine related deaths on Thursday.

That brings their total to 2,141 cases and 71 deaths. Navajo territory spans three states, with cases in all three: New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.

This comes just before a 57-hour weekend curfew, which will go into effect tonight at 8 p.m. local time.

Under the curfew, all residents will be required to stay home except for essential workers. Navajo police will also set up checkpoints on roads and issue citations for those who break curfew.

The Navajo Nation extended its state of emergency declaration and said government offices will stay closed until May 17.

The US Navy has now tested 100% of the crews of the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Kidd, two ships that were hit by an outbreak of the coronavirus while at sea.

On the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier, where sailors continue to transition from quarantine and isolation, there are currently 1,102 active cases. Some 53 sailors have recovered after completing at least 14 days in isolation and two successful negative tests. Three sailors are being treated in US Naval Hospital Guam for Covid-19 symptoms. None of those sailors are in the ICU.

On the USS Kidd destroyer, there are 78 active cases. Crew members will complete at least 14 days in quarantine or isolation and must have two negative tests before returning to the ship. None of the crew from this ship are hospitalized.

I don't see the NYC metro area, maybe even the Boston-NYC-DC corridor, opening up to normalcy for awhile. Our county within commuting distance of NYC is trending down on new cases and deaths; but still very hot.

Personally, one of wife's siblings husband is out of a job. Don't know if temporary or permanent. One of my nieces is now self isolating for two weeks due to a coworker testing positive.

Hang in there people. This will pass. Just not soon IMO.
