Well, like we were told, homemade masks only protect others from you. So for homemade masks to work, nearly everybody has to be wearing them. I am assuming employees were not wearing N95s, but either surgical or homemade masks, and were exposed to a bunch of maskless people. So thus they were not protected. Also, in restaurants, people usually talk to each other, and to employees when they order, so bunch of virus particles are going to be flying around. So, people, if you really really really want to go to a restaurant, pick one with outside sitting area-less of chance to get covid.

    Well this sucks.

Coronavirus can still pass between face mask wearers — even when they're 4 feet apart: study

"The use of a mask will not provide complete protection," study co-author and University of Nicosia professor Dimitris Drikakis said in a statement. "Therefore, social distancing remains essential."

If a person has a coughing fit, "many droplets penetrate the mask shield and some saliva droplet disease-carrier particles can travel more than 1.2 meters (4 feet)," Drikakis added.

The calculations from the simulation also noted that droplet size could be affected due to hitting the mask, escaping and eventually, entering the environment.

"The droplet sizes change and fluctuate continuously during cough cycles as a result of several interactions with the mask and face," Drikakis explained.

The Governor of the state should tell Trump not to come to their state: that the health of their citizens is too important to risk for a rally- or the mayor could do the same thing. Wimpy officials make me puke.

It may not provide complete protection, but i presume it will provide more protection than not wearing one. If a person has a coughing fit, first thing is to get away from that person so you don't get a large viral load of droplets. It is my understanding that viral load is really important. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than myself could explain it but i think if you are coughed on for a long period of time there is more danger of getting the virus than if the time of being coughed on was very short.
I will continue to wear my mask and hope that others do too.

Toilet Flushing Could Spread Covid-19 in the Air Via Poop Droplets

sigh- more bad news - flushing toilets can spread the virus through feces

Let me say this: I am not going to lose sleep over this: we traveled from Florida to Michigan and I used the toilet a lot (i have a pee problem)--- I did not get the virus: while it may be possible to contract the virus this way, there are just so many things you can worry about -- this is at the bottom of my list. When I am home I close the lid when I flush: just because i don't want E coli all over the room- my husband won't do that (dont' ask why because i don't know- he is stubborn)----

I did just order 100 surgical masks from Amazon and they say they're already in Canadian warehouses and should be here quickly
no N95's tho and my closest HH locations say 0 in stock, except a couple say to call store for availability

Previously, the Reisa Broto Asmoro National Task Force's National Communications Team emphasized the community to take preventative measures both for themselves and family members at home.

Doctor Reisa reminds us all of the importance of conducting health guidelines to stay safe and productive COVID-19.

"Be a reliable family protector Prediksi Skor. Stay productive and keep family members safe from COVID-19. Families are healthy, the community is also healthy," Doctor Reisa told a press conference at the National Task Force Media Center, Jakarta, on Monday (6/15) ).

Anyone have any insight on how they are going to run influenza immunizations in the US this fall?
Reason I am asking is, the local pharmacies around me are not doing ANY immunizations at this time, due to Covid 19 and how the injector has to get close to you to do it.

I don't think its going to be "much better" in the Fall...and then you will have probably more people seeking out the flu shot than in years before....sigh...I wonder if there will be long lines? I feel lines of any type are a definite hazard. Maybe they will do drive up clinics...here's hoping.

The study was looking at how a person coughing affects their own mask. These were surgical masks, by the way.

Note: second link below is to an image depicting the effects of a person coughing with and without a mask.

"In an issue of Physics of Fluids, by AIP Publishing, Talib Dbouk and Dimitris Drikakis, from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus, use precise computer models to map out the expected flow patterns of small droplets released when a mask-wearing person coughs repeatedly.

Previous work from this research group showed droplets of saliva can travel 18 feet in five seconds when an unmasked person coughs. This new work used an extended model to consider the effect of face masks and multiple cycles of coughing.

The results show masks can reduce airborne droplet transmission. However, the filtering efficiency of masks is adversely affected by repeated coughing, as might happen when an individual is ill. Repeated coughs reduce the efficiency, letting many more droplets through."

At the bottom of the article you linked above, there is a link to a g.f.m. page for the Kim family. Well worth visiting and reading the story posted by Hannah Kim about her family. Her father (main source of family income) and grandmother have already died from COVID-19, and her mother's lungs have been so badly damaged that she needs a transplant.

Amazon has lots of KN95s right now (with ear loops). That means they are not up to NIOSH standard, but I got some of those anyway. They are actually good to use in hot weather. I also got a sun visor to use as a face shield.

Don't know about pharmacies giving flu shots going forward but expect doctors offices to provide shots. Had blood drawn for lab work last week at 6:10 AM. Had to wait outside along with two others. We all wore masks while I was the only one wearing disposable gloves. All maintained 6' separation.

The phlebotomist came to the door and let only me in. She had a full gown on, gloves, mask, and face shield. Drew blood and escorted me to door. Took next in line inside. Don't see why flu shots can't be handled same way.

I expect receiving a flu shot in the fall.

Looking forward to see if they will do the telemed or have me in the office for my scheduled appointment next week. The cardiologist next month I don't see how that can be done without going to the office for my yearly echo cardiogram and EKG?

My husband and I had our choice of telemed or in-person appointment with our PCPs recently. He did in-person, I did telemed. DH also had a cardiologist appt similar to yours and went in person to have the echo etc and to see the doctor. His in-person visits were fine--there were precautions in place as expected.

We will certainly be getting our flu shots however we can get them.

There are far too many of them IMO. Times like these require strength and wisdom; but if they dont have it, they don't have it.
