Fast-spreading variants boost coronavirus surge across Europe

“The spread of the variants is driving the increase, but not only,” said Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe, citing “also the opening of society, when it is not done in a safe and a controlled manner.”

City of Sarasota Eliminates Mask Mandate

Ironically, the vast majority of businesses require a mask (some, even your temperature taken) upon entry.

I am extremely confused as to why there are so many people from out of state down here during a pandemic. What precisely are they doing in Florida?

From what I have heard, they are enjoying sailing, drinking in bars maskless, and basking in the sun.

'Step forward': Julia Gillard makes vaccine plea in surprise appearance

Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard has made a surprise appearance alongside Health Minister Greg Hunt and issued an urgent plea for Australians to get a Covid-19 vaccination.

Ms Gillard and Mr Hunt both received their coronavirus vaccinations before a press conference in Melbourne Sunday.

The former PM said her appearance was part of a “united message” despite being on “different sides of politics” to Mr Hunt who was the Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Heritage while Ms Gillard was the Prime Minister.

I'm outraged by United Airlines' COVID policy after a jam-packed flight — New York Post

“I knew going on vacation during a pandemic wasn’t the smartest thing to do. I risked coming into close contact with strangers on TSA lines and baggage carousels. I understood Florida restaurants could be overcrowded and under-regulated, the golf courses lawless, the pools too populated, the casinos virtual coronavirus petri dishes.

What I didn’t realize was how a greedy airline would exponentially increase my risk of dying from COVID-19, with the full blessing of my government.”

o_O Ummm. Maybe stay away from smaller airplanes that only have two rows on either side - opt for those carriers that block the middle seat if a Florida vacation is that important.
Southwest is running quite a sale.

Fenway Park vaccination site to be moved to Hynes Convention Center | Boston.com

Gov. Charlie Baker announced Thursday that the mass COVID-19 vaccination site at Fenway Park will be moved to the Hynes Convention Center later this month, ahead of plans to allow fans back at the ballpark for Red Sox opening day April 1.

“All individuals that are vaccinated atFenway Park and have a secondappointment scheduled will be able toreceive their second dose at theHynes, and CIC Health [which operates the vaccination site] willsend them all the details via email,” he said.

Baker’s administration had said back in January that the Fenway Park site was “expected to stay open through the beginning of baseball season in early April.”
However, after the governor announced last week that the state would allow large venues and stadiums to reopen on March 22 with a 12 percent capacity limit — meaning up to around 4,500 fans at Fenway Park — questions began to rise about how the ballpark would play host to both vaccinations and baseball.

"The vaccine will protect us better if we, at the same time, mitigate transmissions and use the playbook that we have: masking, testing and practicing physical distancing," said Dr. Rebecca Wientraub, a professor at Harvard‘s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The administration said it’s focused on getting the guidance right and accommodating emerging science, but delays add to uncertainty around bringing about an end to the pandemic as virus fatigue grows

A future COVID-19 vaccine could be squirted up the nose. The nasal spray could stop transmission, especially in kids.

Altimmune's experimental COVID-19 vaccine, AdCOVID, is designed to be sprayed in the nostrils.
    • A US company called Altimmune is developing a COVID-19 vaccine that gets sprayed up the nose.
    • Such intranasal vaccines may reduce coronavirus transmission better than shots do.
    • Boosters designed to protect against variants could also be delivered intranasally, experts say.

Insanity reigns. The Governor of Montana eliminated the "mask mandate. And now, hardly any one is wearing a mask!

We are down to less than 150 cases a day, statewide. I guess that will change.

If we had 150 cases a day .. heck, if we had 15 cases a day .. we would be in lockdown. For sure. No doubt about it.

I guess that is why we are considered "not vulnerable" and our vaccine orders are being re-routed elsewhere. <sigh>

Your vaccines are being rerouted elsewhere?

Don't you need to be vaccinated?

Yep ... Italy (and soon maybe France) are blocking us. Because they are in 'such a mess'.

France said it may follow Italy in blocking Covid-19 vaccine shipments as concerns about vaccine nationalism rise.
France could follow Italy and block vaccine shipments to Australia

So has anyone in your country gotten vaccinated yet?

    Or just a certain segment?

Very few people. We got a little bit of Pfizer, then a little bit of Astra Zeneca (within the last couple of weeks) and we are doing as many healthcare, elderly, and quarantine people as we can with that.

We have large orders in for Pfizer, Astra Zeneca and Novavax (which isn't ready yet). But we are not getting them.

This is our 'reward' for trying so hard and keeping our death count so low.
We can keep up with our restrictions and lockdowns, while others fly to the Bahamas, Marseilles, Rome ......

I doubt all countries will block shipments to you and then you all can be vaccinated. Where I am vaccine appointments are always filled up and they won't take anymore appointments. They only expect 70% to be vaccinated by end of year and this is in a mid western capitol city.

I don't blame people for going out of state if they are eligible and can't get one. It s..cks here.

Our health minister tells us to not feel bad, they are getting our own production of Astra Zeneca going in a production plant in Melbourne. So we won't have to rely on anyone else. He stills hopes to have us all vaccinated by the end of October.

Them's the breaks. (as we would say)
I kinda guessed this would happen, a long time ago. Because that is how the world is. We can still be happy that we have had less than 1,000 deaths due to what we have done.

You will probably end up getting some from the US if Biden actually produces what he's promised. We will not actually need enough for every American because there's a large percentage who are not going to take it. So what will we do with the overflow? Hopefully we will send it on to folks who do want it.

Yes, I know y’all will be ok, but blocking shipments is not, imo
