Lottery winner wasn't supposed to gamble
BOSTON - The winner of a $1 million lottery scratch ticket may not be so lucky after all: He's a convicted bank robber who isn't supposed to gamble. Timothy Elliott faces a Dec. 7 court hearing over whether he violated his probation when he bought the $10 ticket for the $800 Million Spectacular game at a supermarket in Hyannis. (more at link)

Sounds to me as if they should impound his winnings to help defray the county debt. Time for a little reimbursement here.

That's what I thought too, Buzz! Also pay back the bank if they didn't recover all the funds.

and then there's the cost of his room, and board, TM, while he was serving time, and then the cost of the public defender. He's probably a million, or two short, of being able to pay us back what he owes us.

These people that he robbed surely needed some type of psychological or maybe even medical help, right?

Oh, the list goes on with what we could do with that money, but you are right, a million is not enough. Especially in $50,000 increments!

I hope the judicial system doesn't go soft on him.

I'm actually happy to hear of this Judge's ruling, just because I don't think the gambling probation provision would - at the heart of its intent - be very concerned with a scratch-off ticket!! I am always more interested with the spirit of the law than the letter of the law, but that's just me.

I too hope he gets on a better path!

Thanks for the update on this interesting case.
