Anyone who sees something "sensual" about a child has a disturbed mind, imo.

The father of the naked girl depicted on the cover of Art Monthly magazine has written of the "diabolically sexual" potential in child images.
Robert Nelson, art critic with The Age, has responded angrily to criticism of the nude pictures of his six-year-old daughter Olympia in the magazine's most recent issue, which may be pulled from the shelves after authorities ruled it needed to be classified.
But, as revealed by Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt in his blog this morning, Nelson has previously written of the specific sexuality of such pictures, arguing that "the sensuality of children is integral to parental fondness.
”In the essay — which features on the website of Nelson's wife Polixeni Papapetrou, who took the pictures of Olympia — Nelson says some photographs taken of Olympia by his wife in 2000 when she was just two years old were taken "at the instigation" of their daughter: "'Mummy, come and photo me,’ she would exhort."
The "taboo" of such images is described as "the fear of the child’s latent sexuality and its potential for exciting inappropriate and sinful desire."

Maybe I am missing something but I find children to be extraordinarily sensual, and I'm missing the outrage of some of these posts.

The sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feel of hugs, snuggles, nuzzles, feeding at the breast, bathing, grooming, caretaking etc, etc...the interdependence between parents and infant/child - yes, those things are sensual and key to bonding, IMHO.

I went and looked up the defintion of sensual and I am still not getting it. Only one of the definitions of sensual contained a word ("lewd") that I consider sexual. But most of the definitions are right on target in describing an child, particularly a very young one.

I understand your statement, SCM-actually both of them. In the case of this um, artist/parent I think he is just trying to drive some controversy and increase traffic around the photo.

Being with a child is an incredibly tactile experience-especially on a hot, humid summer day or when you want 10 seconds to pee, lol, but I don't find it sexy personally. I think they are beautiful, and winsome and special....

Let us see how the art critic/parent feels when some creep sends him an email on some of the things they have done while gazing at the picture of his child....because you know that this will happen now that he raised the subject.

This may well be true!! And yes - children don't arouse a sexual desire in me. Sensual and sexual are different to me though - however, admittedly the two experiences can intertwine.

LOL! My children bothered me so much yesterday arguing over ownership of some stupid stuffed dragon that no one has played with in half a year that I took all their toys out of their rooms for an as yet to be determined period of time - my theory being that if you don't have any toys you can't fight over them!

Your definition of sensual is similar to the one I found. Fleshly, carnal, preoccupied with senses or appetites, indulgent, immediate gratification - yep, that pretty much describes my kids, though I'm trying to convince them that there is indeed more to life than their corporeal happiness!:blowkiss:

Definitely! If they wanted controversy...they got it. Now many in the world think they both are pervs. The way I see it...the true "artistic interpretation" awaiting them here is for a judge to decide when to charge them for producing child porn and distribution of such material.

Photos of your child like that dont need to be out for all the world to see on the net. Something is not right with that jewellery she is wearing either in that last pic.

That's the most "risque" picture I could find on the site. I wonder if that's the picture that started all the hullabaloo. I don't find that photo to be pornographic - although I think the jewelry is ugly!

SCM...thats not the picture that started the controversy. I started the original thread on this the other day and the original pic is linked in that thread. I dont know how to link this thread to that one. In the original article, there was one pic on the cover of the mag and two more inside.

The jewellery in the pic you linked looks like something an older woman would wear.

What forum is the original thread in, Ciara? I'd love to see the pics that started it all.

Little girls dress up in their Mom's jewelry all the time. It's darn near a rite of passage!
