''During the Pentecost carnival in Copenhagen in 1990, 18-year-old Stine Geisler was found dead one morning in the basement of the stairwell in Teglgaardsstræde in Copenhagen where she lived. She had been tied with a black cord around her hands and neck and strangled after the gunman forced two dishcloths down her throat.

On her face she had several cuts, she had been doused with bone wax, and after her death, a mysterious symbol was scratched into the skin of her right forearm.

Although the police have questioned more than 4,000 people in the case, they have never been able to find the perpetrator. Now a new documentary series is trying to shed new light on the matter.

''Murdered in the basement

While there is a party and colors in the streets of Copenhagen in connection with the annual Pentecost carnival, a mysterious perpetrator drags the young high school student Stine Geisler into a basement at her home in Teglgårdsstræde in the inner city.

He then disappears, and the police have never succeeded in finding the brutal perpetrator.

Also noted on this thread because the woman had letters marked on her skin, not that it is the same perp, but maybe just to get a better understanding of this particular type of killer?
fwiw, imo.

What a terribly cruel, mysterious and sad case. Was "bone wax" something commonly used during this time/place? This is the first I've heard of it. Is/was it sterile and only used in medical facilities or this type of wax used for something more common such as art molds or polishing surf/skateboards, etc ??

''Six of the old cases have now been investigated by forensic geneticists. And in three of them there have been breakthroughs: The killing of the 23-year-old prostitute Hanne With in Nørrebro in Copenhagen on New Year's Eve 1990. The murder of 18-year-old high school student Anne Stine Geisler in Teglgårdsstræde in central Copenhagen during the Pentecost carnival in 1990. And finally, the murder of 80-year-old Erna Jensine Østergaard Larsen in Copenhagen's northwest quarter in 1985.

Race against time

In all cases, DNA profiles have been found on items found at the crime scene. Something that has not been possible until today and it has proven to give results. The police now have a DNA profile of three possible perpetrators in three unsolved murder cases and thus renewed hope that the perpetrators can still be held accountable.''

''The perpetrator surprised the 18-year-old girl when she locked herself in through the gate of her home in Teglgårdsstræde shortly before three o'clock at night.
As she made her way to her fourth-floor room, the killer attacked and dragged her to the basement, where she was tied up with a wire. The cord was also laced around the neck of the beautiful young woman, and the perpetrator strangled her by stuffing two dishcloths down her throat.
Before that, he had tormented her with a knife or broken glass, and he also scratched a mysterious mark on her arm. Finally, he doused her in bone wax. However, there was no indication that Stine had been sexually violated.
Despite the fact that the Copenhagen Police have had 35 detectives on the case over the years and have interviewed more than 4,000 witnesses, the case has never been solved.''

Just observations ..

Not sure of the fencing or security gate features, but the victim entered through a locked gate and the killer was already inside the home, so how did he gain access? Reference to her "fourth floor room" sounds like it may have been shared accommodation. The killer knew there was a basement and how to access it. Dishcloths are not normally evidence associated with a killing, but just happen to be handy and available in every home, not something a stranger would normally include in a kill kit as part of planning a murder.

As for the bone wax, impressions from google images indicate it is 'normally' packaged in relatively small quantities. Reading that the victim was "doused" in bone wax leads me to believe it may have been a homemade liquid mixture. This seems part of pre-planning, but your average garden variety killer would not normally plan to walk about the neighbourhood with dishcloths as part of a kill kit.

ADMIN NOTE:

Due to threats of legal action by a copyright scraping company named CatchScan out of Denmark, the above images related to this cold case have been removed, even though we believe them to have been used under the fair use principle related to copyright. The links to the articles containing the images will remain in order for our members to view them in the published article.

The general idea behind fair use is that if a picture is uploaded to newspapers for the public to see, it is considered fair use to reuse the image for research and educational purposes.

from: Fair use images – Understanding your image rights

“However, if the owner stored it privately and someone obtained it unfairly, it’s not fair use. Understand the original uploader’s intentions to cover your bases.”

The images that were contained here were NOT stored privately; they were publicized in online newspaper articles, presumably to aid in solving this case of a murdered woman. They were not obtained unfairly as they were available in the media. There are no copyright watermarks on the images and it is my personal opinion that it was the original uploader’s intention to assist in solving this cold case, not to directly or indirectly gain financially through copyright scrapers threatening lawsuits over the image being published. It is also my own opinion that the copyright scraping company threatening legal action has no interest in the case actually being solved but only how they may somehow benefit financially by threatening legal action.

Having said the above, Websleuths has existed for almost a quarter century now with the sole purpose of researching and educating its members and the public about missing and murdered individuals worldwide. In all those years, national and international mainstream media companies, news agencies, missing persons organizations, law enforcement and government agencies have never threatened legal action over sourced images contained in their publication, and which images are presumably intended to assist in solving cases related to missing or murdered individuals.

If the original content creator never wanted their images related to this cold case to be shared with a view to solving the case, what was their intent ? Where else would they want their work to be shared if not on a site that devotes itself to helping in any way to try to solve the case?

The decision to remove the images has been made solely because Tricia does not have the time or inclination to argue legalities with copyright scrapers or argue with them over the definition of what constitutes fair use.

A ytube video about the case, unsure if it can be posted or not, but a comment made describes not bone wax, but the Danish word bone-voks..which is basically floor polish or wax.
