Ebola outbreak - general thread #6

Wow, Uncle of Amber just said on CNN that Amber never contacted the CDC....it was the other way around. Hmmm....didn't the CDC say that she did contacted them? He's being interviewed now if anyone wants to watch Don Lemon

I just saw this interview too. My understanding is Amber's uncle said that someone from Texas contacted Amber to check on her (after Nina became symptomatic) and that this someone from Texas actually contacted CDC and then called Amber back. All in all, that exchange in the interview was vague, IMO.

Secondly, Amber's uncle said Amber told him she felt fine during her stay in Ohio.

Call me confused.......... I don't understand why there is not clarification on these issues yet. Ridiculous.

There is somewhat of an irony here as it relates to the hospital offerring staff (PR) to take a suite at their hotel! It is even crazier in that the invitation has been extended to HCW, a educated group of folk, which in all liklihood would know, this probably, if my body may soon be fighting something,is not the best place to sleep where in the liklihood of running into folks who have been near body fluids. Mayor said CNN dozens have taken the offer - has anyone heard anything ?

CNN Myaor offerered the people a hotel room . well they better do it in top secret mode, with all the hysteria, if a hotel knew they probably would not let them stay

BBM

There is a hotel in Presbyterian Hospital. It is there for families of patients to stay so they can be on site. Maybe they are referring to this rather than a regular hotel, at least for the HCW.

When winter comes and it is very cold in the northern states will ebola virus die? Does it need warmth to thrive?

One of the hundreds of articles in these threads said the virus actually lives longer in dark, cold environments, IIRC.

Texas Health Resource- parent company of Presby Dallas has launched a full-on public relations event. Facebook updates, Twitter tweets and YouTube videos. Apologized for the misdiagnosis for Duncan. Moved on to 'not our fault we followed CDC guidelines' and look at all these people that love working here.

Interesting. The word up here in NEO news is that she only called CDC as she was preparing to leave Cleveland. Its very easy for the phone records at CDC to verify it. There's no benefit for them to lie about it. If they contacted her, as she alleges, when did they do so? After they discovered she had traveled out of state? Her story is sounding strange.

BTW, she was all over this area. Summit Co Health Dept said she traveled to at least 7 places besides her parents home, planning her wedding. Such a poor decision on her part.

I wish I could rewind his interview. It was a bit confusing, but from what I gather he said the CDC contacted her first and I think it was before she traveled. He presented well in the interview and seemed like a very nice and honest gentleman and was very believable. Hopefully someone else here saw it and can elaborate - maybe a video of the interview will surface soon. Either way...I guess it doesn't matter who contacted who, but if the CDC is not telling the truth...I'd like to know.

Are Duncan's girlfriend & family ok? Last I read no one has heard from any of them...............they should surface soon................

They were heard from today. Many links in this thread to Louise's comments about an apology she received from Presby Dallas.

What is the truth, FGS. First I read she went nowhere other than her family's home. 2nd story: only to bridal shop Now: at least 7 places??

From a link above: “The biggest part of the discussion is how Ebola is spread. I will say two things on the topic, no, it is not airborne, and yes, basic hygiene plays a HUGE factor. But while on the topic of whether it is or is not airborne, the definition of an airborne contagion is one that can freely float in the air, survive lengths of time, and infect someone else. VERY few things fit in this category, most have been eradicated, Polio, Small Pox, Tuberculosis.”

“Things that are also NOT airborne, are the flu and the cold. For the flu, you have to come into direct contact with the patient’s body fluids. People can spread it before they show symptoms, just like Ebola (theoretically), and one other HUGE factor…droplets….let that word really sink in. The virus may not be airborne, but the droplets are. All it takes is a little microscopic droplet to land in your eye, nose, mouth, or the unlikely scenario of an open wound, and you’ve now been infected, because you came in CONTACT with their bodily fluids.”

Sorry, but those statements are rather misleading. First of all ebola is not contagious before symptoms appear, as with the flu. The insinuation that droplets are as ominous as "airborne transmission" is salacious and false. Please see post #555.

It lives within a living body. Does not live outside of a body for very long. They are saying around 4 hours on a surface such as a counter top or a door knob and perhaps as much as 5 days in a moist warm liquid environment.

Maybe ambient air temperature would effect either of the out-of-a-body cases, but air temperature would not affect whether or not it lives inside a body.

He absolutely states it is not airborne. A droplet flying through the air from a contagious person is indeed "ominous ".

snipped

Vinson said she felt fatigue, muscle ache and malaise while she was in Cleveland and on the flight home, a federal official with direct knowledge of the case told CNN's Elizabeth Cohen. Vinson did not have diarrhea or vomiting while in Cleveland or on the flight home.

Vinson's uncle, just interviewed on CNN, says the above is not true. So, so frustrating that there are so many contradicting stories.

Took a bit long for their crisis consultant to get their act together.
