I do tend to agree that appears to be some sort of urgency in their movements. Knowing what was contained in any exchange of messages would be useful. Also what state the property was like. Did it look like they were packing up to move or was everything still in its normal place. Were personal effects neat and tidy or strewn around? Anything that would look like they left in a hurry or not? Obviously for the landlady to call the police something must have been obviously amiss.

Looking at the known facts of the disappearance:

1. The sisters wanted to end their tenancy immediately.

2. They left several possessions behind in the flat.

3. Their bank accounts have not been used since they went missing.

4. They haven't been in touch with close family.

5. The last time they were located was in the vicinity of the river path.

From what we do know, it would appear that the sisters have ended up in the river.

Its difficult not to assume the tenancy termination isn't connected to their disappearance. I suppose we should be open to the idea the two things might be unrelated. Perhaps they were packing up to move and something else happened or turned up. I do think unfortunately they will be found in the river. The next question will be, why? I don't know why but I have a slightly uneasy feeling about all this.

The police have stated they are open to possibilities other than the theory the girls entered the water and the police have stated that that they have no evidence to date of foul play.
They certainly have not ruled out other possibilities or ruled out foul play.
The police have clearly stated that there is no evidence of suicidal ideation/ intention in the girls.
In any case- Europe has a definite trafficking problem very central to Eastern Europeans/ Hungarians for example. In some northern countries almost every trafficked person is of Eastern European origin. These were two physically fit girls who may or may not have been somewhat naive and who may or may not have interacted with a trafficker from their homeland who conversed with them in their mother tongue and duped them. They may have appeared younger than 32 years old
and trafficking happens on various levels - not just underaged sex trafficking but as forced labor/ forced marriage and etc.
All imho

I think the fact that the women apparently had not found new accommodation to move into and gave up their tenancy immediately with out a month's notice together with their possessions left in the flat indicates that the tenancy termination is indeed linked to their disappearance.

Most human trafficking victims in the UK are male. Also, the sisters are far over the age that sex traffickers are looking for.

Of the 16,938 potential victims referred to the NRM in 2022, 78% (13,290) were male and 21% (3,634) were female.
Agree it is not hugely likely it is related to trafficking, but it is possible. I also think those of us who are local to Aberdeen had suggested this due to the area of the river and what is known to go on around the harbour, Esplanade, Wellington Rd. There is an increasing Hungarian community in Torry and this has been linked, at times, to gangs/organised crime/drugs etc.

Hi, first time poster and local of Aberdeen. Obviously this case has caught my attention a lot more that others as I'm family with the town centre and surrounding streets.

It had been snowing heavily in the area and most of the pathways had become really slippery with compacted ice. The paths hadn't been cleared properly in most areas outside the town centre, it was particularly bad in the Torry area.

Many people have asked why did the turn right from the main road to go along the riverside footpath and a simple answer to that could be the state of the paths. If they continued along the road, that is on a downslope. Walking on sheet ice going downwards is difficult. They may have felt it was safer to go along the riverside path.

Close to the Boat House, the riverside path gets very close to the river. If it was equally as slippery there, one of them could have easily fallen.

I think the why lies in the materials they found, whatever it is. I hope anyway so there is some kind of concrete resolution for the family.

The wording of the Superindent saying “One of our theories has to be that they’ve entered the water for reasons unknown” and “We don’t really understand why they seem to have left their home address and walked to this area in a fairly direct line before the CCTV footage of them is exhausted.” Make me feel that they did not find explanation note though.

But why would they be heading that way in the early hours of the morning when it was icy and freezing cold? Where were they going?

And welcome to Websleuths @Enzo Le Fee!

Agreed. To me something about a double suicide (although likely) doesn't sit quite right with me. Or at least not without something specific behind it. I can't really articulate it properly but I can't help but feel there's something else.

Yes, indeed, but with the tide the way it was, they wouldn’t be falling into water. With the tide mostly out, the waters edge and path are quite a distance apart and even what is the edge of the land that has water right next to it with the high tide is somewhat away from water at a low tide, meters in most cases.

There is a large Eastern European population in Torry, the could have been meeting someone. They could have just been going for a walk, although unlikely, trouble sleeping perhaps and went for a walk. The direction they were going takes you to another bridge where they can loop back towards home.

If they were planning to commit suicide, walking to the beach front is about the same distance. I really don't know why they would consider that spot next to the boat house.

I wouldn’t read into the saving for a house/own flat too much, there would have been an expectation false or real felt by the sisters to be getting their own property by the family instead of renting. The family may not actually know much of the sisters financial situation, I know at 30 my parents didn’t.

Thanks for that, a surprising bit of data that I didn’t know.

It has been said several times in this thread that family said they were saving for a flat.
Well, the family said that. But who knows if the sisters told the family that to placate them.
Saving for your own property in the UK is very very difficult to due the huge cost of living. It's difficult for professional people, and these 2 sisters were working minimum wage jobs, one in a coffee shop and the other in a hotel. You can't save for your own property on those wages. You may be able to put a little bit by, but not much. It would take a decade.

My daughter was trafficked beginning at age 39-- so it's not just young people
