What does DT mean that he "wishes her alot of luck?" Is that some type of veiled threat?

As someone back in the threads said (sorry, I don't recall who made the comment) DT drops names publicly, then the harassment of those people starts. Harassment by the people who blindly believe his every word.

He knows it will happen. I think he has read the Power of Suggestion, cover to cover, many times.

imo

Can you even begin to imagine the outcry from Republicans if Obama had been found with even one top secret document at his private residence?
We don’t have to imagine. His VP was found with secret documents in his garage. I don’t think it’s any better than storing them in a bathroom. The law needs to be applied equally and that’s a huge part of the outrage. imo

There is a BIG difference between cooperating to ensure the documents are now stored in the right place, and not fully cooperating to ensure the documents are now stored in the right place.

Pence suffered no consequences because he immediately turned the documents over to the archives.
Biden will likely suffer no consequences because he did the same.
Trump will suffer consequences because he concealed documents when they were asked for, AND discussed them with/showed them to unauthorised people.

The chief clerk of court in South Florida tells me the assignment of the Trump case to Judge Cannon was random, but certain factors increased the odds she'd get it. Also confirms that Cannon has the case for the duration absent any recusal.

Ms. Noble wrote that certain factors increased the chances that the case would land before Judge Cannon.
For one, she said, senior judges are removed from the case assignment system, or wheel, once they fulfill their target caseload from the year. At least one of the senior judges is done, she wrote.

In addition, she wrote, one of the seven active judges with chambers in Fort Lauderdale is now a Miami judge for the purpose of assignments. Another is not currently receiving cases.

A third active judge, Donald Middlebrooks, draws 50 percent of his criminal cases from the Miami division, she wrote, decreasing his odds. (Judge Middlebrooks this year ordered Mr. Trump and his lawyers to pay nearly a million dollars in sanctions for having filed a frivolous lawsuit against nearly three dozen of his perceived political enemies, including Hillary Clinton.)

Judge Cannon, Ms. Noble wrote, “draws 50 percent of her cases from West Palm Beach, increasing her odds.”

Perhaps Nauta was seeking guidance from another staffer because Nauta knew he wasn't supposed to have access to the classified documents. If he is smart, he will cooperate in exchange for a lighter sentence.

JMO

That is how I saw the reason for taking the photo. Nauta is just a little marionette on a string, so if he sees something amiss, he looks for help, and won't look for a solution to put the amiss mess back in order.

So we have any clues as to who "employee #2" is, in this event?

Trump in Georgia, hinting at violence: “Our people are angry.” “And sometimes you need strength. You have to have strength, more than just normal strength. And we have to get a change because we’re not going to have a country left.”

Today he was seen getting on a plane with Trump and it was said he is still employed by Trump.

He can't cooperate with the Feds because he would lose his job and his reputation with all his friends etc...

And have to pay his own legal fees and find a place to live. Etc...

Just too difficult to go against his friend and employer. Very hard to have Trump as your enemy. Trump and Trump's family.

All just speculation

Walt Nauta ought to know by now that T is not going to stand by him. T is going to blame the whole thing on his valet. If Maura continues to stand by T, then Maura is going to prison for a very long time. I would feel sorry for him, except he has had plenty of time to learn this lesson. Maura will deserve what he gets.

I think Nauta will cooperate with the Feds just as Michael Cohen did. They've already got evidence Nauta lied to them. With "friends" like Trump, nobody needs enemies.

All very true and sad. When you watch all of the people being convicted for their actions on 1/6 and realize that many of them thought he would back them, you realize the gullibility of those who believe blindly. This man (as their demigod while being a using his skills demagogue) will always calculate those who will do his will versus those who can't be bought/sold/blackmailed into his narrative. I find it sad that this flunky will probably wind up in prison while his boss never sees a day behind bars. Michael Cohen, Allen Weisselberg, and all convicted on 1/6 are models for what happens when you follow blindly. The boss will never get his hands dirty and will always let the bus roll over you if he is not grabbing you by...and will even then I assume.
I think in the end of this case, Nauta will be convicted of lying to a federal LE agent and will end up with the same sentence served by Martha Stewart. He had no idea what he was doing other than following orders.

Trump's political career was over when his endorsements did so badly in the 2022 midterms. The majority of Americans are not anti-all abortion, anti-gay marriage or fixated on controlling the rights of drag queens and transgender minors.

Isn't there still a Special Prosecutor investigating Biden's documents? And didn't Biden promptly return the documents after their discovery? If so, the "outrage" from Trump's cult following is a tad premature but, hey, that never stopped them from making idiots of themselves on Jan 6th.

Nope, I have no clue who "employee #2" might be but I'm betting Nauta and his attorney will know as soon as discovery flows.

You're comparing apples to watermelons. No one should be careless with secret documents, but the quantity of documents that Biden had was virtually nothing compared to the dozens of boxes that Trump had. Moreover, Trump made a deliberate effort to conceal the documents. No one believes that Trump accidentally misplaced dozens of boxes of documents; the sheer quantity is proof that they were deliberately stolen, IMO.

I will be very surprised if Trump wins the 2024 Republican nomination. Biden has done three things that, to me, are basically unforgivable: 1) Exiting Afghanistan recklessly and throwing away 20 years of gains; 2) Fist-bumping Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman; and 3) Trading Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner, so I would not vote for Biden, but I would not vote for Trump, either. There are always third-party candidates on the ballot. If all else fails, I can write in a candidate's name (which is what I did in 2004 because I couldn't stand Dubya or Kerry).

Donald Trump calls indictment 'ridiculous and baseless' in Georgia speech

In a speech on Saturday at a Republican Party convention in Georgia, Mr Trump said: "They're cheating, they're crooked, they're corrupt - these criminals cannot be rewarded, they must be defeated."

He joked that every time he flies over a "blue state" - one controlled by the Democrats - he gets subpoenaed.

Mr Trump, who is running for the White House again in 2024, called the indictment a "hoax" by the "corrupt political establishment", also describing it as a "joke" and a "travesty".

The speech went on for more than an hour.

It began with him thanking the "record crowd" as well as "patriots" from Georgia who had supported his White House bid, and went on to criticise "sinister forces" that were running the country.

"We're going to stand up to the current political establishment … and we're going to finish the job we started, the most successful presidency," he said, a line that led to chants of "USA, USA" breaking out in the crowd.

"I will never yield, I will never be deterred," he said, before turning his attention to the groups he said were plotting against him.

This included Marxists, communists, "environmental extremists", Rinos - Republicans in Name Only - as well as "open border fanatics" and "radical left democrats".

Referencing the indictment, he claimed the highly-sensitive documents should have fallen under the Presidential Records Act, rather than the Espionage Act.

Under the Presidential Records Act, White House records are supposed to go to the National Archives once an administration ends. Regulations require such files to be stored securely.

He also said "gun-toting FBI agents" had raided Mar-a-Lago.

Special counsel Jack Smith, who oversaw the investigation, has denied the charges are politically-motivated, saying: "We have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to everyone."

Laws protecting national defence information were critical and must be enforced, he has said.

Trump left with few defenses for hoarding top secret documents

The sprawling indictment targeting the former president is set out like chapters in a novel easily digested by a trial jury

By laying out Donald Trump’s own admissions and incriminating eyewitness accounts from his employees, the indictment unsealed on Friday provided compelling evidence that could be exceedingly difficult for the former president to overcome and avoid a conviction.

[...]

The central thrust of the indictment was the highly sensitive nature of the material at issue. Among the documents Trump was charged with retaining: documents on US nuclear programs, potential US military vulnerabilities, and plans for US retaliation in the event of an attack.

For violations of the Espionage Act, Trump was charged under section 793e of title 18 of the criminal code, which references the retention of “national defense information” – defined as materials that could damage the national security of the United States.

The documents Trump retained appeared to exceed that threshold. In multiple instances in the indictment, some of the documents that Trump is said to have retained were so sensitive that prosecutors were forced to redact even the classification markings that described the secret programs.

But the charging papers were also highly problematic for Trump because it was organized around three key moments that illustrated violations of the Espionage Act and obstruction like chapters in a novel that are easily digested by a trial jury.

The indictment laid out two instances showing Trump knew he was in unauthorized possession of national defense information months after he left the White House, as well as an extended account showing Trump knew he was obligated to return the material but took steps to illegally retain them.

Bedminster meeting, July 2021

[...] Trump demonstrated he knew that the document in question was classified, he knew it pertained to military intelligence which would constitute national defense information, and he knew that he was not supposed to disseminate its contents.[...]

Bedminster meeting, August 2021

[...] That incident as recounted is particularly problematic for Trump not only because it came from an eyewitness, but because it came from one of his own employees – bolstering the credibility of the account because the staffer would have been testifying against their boss.

It is not clear what Trump could even argue to suggest the material was not national defense information at the time, other than stretching to say perhaps the map might have been out of date by that point in the conflict when the Taliban had overrun most of Afghanistan.

Mar-a-Lago obstruction, May 2022

[...] When Corcoran returned, he found 38 classified documents in the storage room, at which point Trump is said to have made a gesture that seemed to indicate he should “pluck” any documents that were “bad”. Trump also asked: “Did you find anything? … Is it bad? Good?”

The passage appears to demonstrate with a variety of evidence – notes, testimony, phone records and surveillance footage – that Trump knew he had kept “bad” documents, wanted to keep them, and pre-emptively took steps to remove classified documents from where Corcoran was searching. [...]

‘I will never be detained’: Trump defiant in first speech since federal indictment

Donald Trump delivered his first public address following the announcement of his federal indictment this week in Columbus, Georgia, on Saturday.

The former president took the stage at the state Republican convention in Georgia in the afternoon where he lashed out against the Department of Justice, the FBI and the Biden administration, called his recent indictment “a travesty of justice” and repeated unsupported conspiratorial claims that Joe Biden had stashed secret documents in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington DC.

[...]

He went on to launch a tirade against federal officials, saying, “Now the Marxist left is once again using the same corrupt DoJ [justice department] and the same corrupt FBI, and the attorney general and the local district attorneys to interfere … They’re cheating. They’re crooked. They’re corrupt. These criminals cannot be rewarded. They must be defeated. You have to defeat them.

“Because in the end, they’re not coming after me. They’re coming after you and I’m just standing in their way,” he said.

[...]

He went on to add that “the only good thing about [the indictment] is it’s driven my poll numbers way up”.

Trump repeated his baseless attacks against his former opponent Hillary Clinton, whom the state department investigated for several years over her use of private email before it found “no persuasive evidence of … deliberate mishandling of classified documents”.

He also lashed out at Joe Biden over the classified documents from his time as vice-president and senator which were found in his office in Washington and his Delaware home.

“Nothing happened to Crooked Joe with all that … He has so many classified documents … This is a sick nest of people that needs to be cleaned out immediately,” said Trump as the crowd cheered fervently.

Trump also brought up his former vice-president and now presidential opponent Mike Pence, who also had marked documents discovered in his Indiana home.

“They looked at Mike Pence. He had classified documents, no problem,” said Trump.

While Biden and Pence turned over the marked documents as soon as they were discovered and allowed their lawyers to look through their properties, Trump has been accused of deliberately concealing boxes of records from his attorney, the FBI and the grand jury, according to the latest indictment.

Trump’s two speeches had been planned before the justice department indicted him on Thursday evening with 37 criminal charges regarding his alleged illegal retention of classified government documents after leaving office in 2021.

[...]

Trump, who has repeatedly maintained his innocence, lashed out against the latest indictment on Thursday night. In a video released on his social media platform Truth Social, the GOP’s most popular presidential candidate said, “It is election interference at the highest level … I’m an innocent man, I’m an innocent person … we’ll fight this out.”

He then turned to his supporters for money, writing in an email on Friday morning, “Please make a contribution to peacefully DEFEND our movement from the never-ending witch hunts – and together, even during these darkest of times, we will prove that our movement is truly UNBREAKABLE.”

Trump was slated to speak again on Saturday evening at a Republican event in North Carolina. He is expected to appear in a federal court in Miami on Tuesday and may face prison if convicted.
