According to court documents, 55-year-old Reginald Parker told at least three people that he had witnessed 31-year-old Travis Combs’ murder on Aug. 28. Combs was found with one gunshot wound to the upper torso in a grassy lot in the 1600 block of 22nd Street.

Parker told one person that he had been in the area that night when three men yelled, “Give it up,” to Combs, who responded, “I ain’t got it.” One shot was fired, according to court documents, and two of the men ran while one drove off in Combs’ car.

SARASOTA — Three men chasing 31-year-old Travis Combs into a grassy field next to his home in north Sarasota shouted “give it up” to the man as he fled earlier this summer, according to a Sarasota Police Department report obtained by the Herald-Tribune this week.

“I ain’t got it,” said Combs, surrounded by the trio in the empty lot in the 1600 block of 22nd Street.

At the same time, Jabez Spann, a 14-year-old who lived about 200 yards away on 23rd Street, was leaving a friend’s house on 22nd Street, the report says, when he heard a single gunshot. It struck Combs in the chest. He fell dead.
“Oh my God. Y’all shot him,” Spann is quoted as saying in the report, as the suspects scattered — two running north on foot and one taking Combs’ car.
Spann went missing a week later, on Labor Day Sept. 4, after attending a candlelight vigil for Combs, and has been the subject of a nationwide missing child alert for months.
The police report — for the first time — places Spann at the scene of Combs’ shooting, a circumstance that had previously only been rumored.

[h=1]Sarasota mayor intervened in Jabez Spann case on behalf of pastor[/h]
SARASOTA — Sarasota Mayor Shelli Freeland Eddie intervened in the investigation of missing Newtown teenager Jabez Spann when prosecutors attempted to contact a prominent Newtown pastor regarding the case in late September, according to public records.

Freeland Eddie, who also runs a private law practice, represents Pastor Kelvin Lumpkin and wrote a letter on Sept. 28 that he would invoke his “pastoral privilege” and refuse to answer any questions about the case, according to a copy of the letter obtained through a public records request Tuesday.

The notice came as investigators struggled to drum up new leads in the search for the 14-year-old Jabez and believed Lumpkin may have information about the case or a homicide potentially related to the teenager’s disappearance, officials said.

Jabez went missing on Labor Day after a candlelight vigil for 31-year-old Travis Combs, whose death at the end of August is being investigated as a homicide, thought it has not been directly related to Spann’s case.

This is scary -- I don't like the way this sounds. A 14 year-old. And his worried grandmother -- she can't be sleeping well at night, wondering how/where he is and if he is okay. SMH. I just don't like it -- so hoping he'll show up tomorrow, healthy and still a young kid. Worrisome. Very.

The Newtown district of Sarasota is not the best part of the city - the article below will give some insight:

http://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20170705/sarasota-looks-to-reset-newtown-redevelopment

Needless to say it has a lot of problems that still need to be overcome.

Jabez, where are you?

Another msm post-

Jabez Spann was last seen at a candlelight vigil for the murder victim on Labor Day Sept 4, the Sarasota Herald Tribune reported Friday. The search to find him includes the FBI, Sarasota police and several other law enforcement agencies.

The paper reported Friday that a police report for the first time places Spann at the scene of the Aug. 28 killing of Travis Combs--a circumstance that had previously only been rumored.

The paper quoted the police report as saying that a 55-year-old man named Reginald Parker heard what Spann said and told another person who told police. That person also told police that Parker claimed to have witnessed Combs' murder.

The Herald Tribune didn't identify the person, but WWSB-TV reported the person was Lucille Tillery, Spann's grandmother. The station cited a court affidavit for the information.

The paper reported that Parker denied telling anyone he saw the shooting when he was interviewed by detectives at the Sarasota jail, the paper reported.

The report accuses Parker of being an accessory to murder for impeding the investigation into Combs’ murder, the paper reported.

Parker was interviewed by detectives after being arrested Nov. 7, the paper reported. Online records show Parker was charged on that date with violating Florida’s sex offender registration law.

If Jabezz was murdered for what he saw, LE may never find his body -- there's lots of places to dump a body in that area -- or any town/area around it. SMH. This continues to look worse & worse, IMO. (Sorry for the attitude, but past cases have contributed to my gloom on this one.) But I still do hope, anyway. Sometimes things turn out to be a good surprise.

Sarasota police acknowledge possible link between man’s death and missing teenager

The Sarasota Police Department released a statement Monday acknowledging the possible link between the murder of 31-year-old Travis Combs and the baffling disappearance of 14-year-old Jabez Spann.

The possible connection between the two cases was first reported last week by the Herald-Tribune after an arrest report that surfaced in court records for Reginald Parker, 55, indicated that he and Spann witnessed Combs’ death.

Spann has been missing since Sept. 4 — a week after Combs was shot and killed in a grassy field next to his house located at 1627 22nd Street. Spann lived approximately 200 yards away from where Combs body was found.

A $25,000 reward remains in place for information into the disappearance of Spann, who was last seen in the area of 22nd Street and Orange Avenue wearing a turquoise shirt. He is a black male, 5-foot-9, and about 120 pounds.

Jabez was featured on Live PD last night. I feel for his family. How horrific. I hope he is found safe and sound soon!

I should have added that his mother was on the show begging for organizations to assist her family in helping her to find her son. It was a very emotional appeal.
