The Martin County Sheriff's Office says it is treating the discovery of a female's body Friday morning as a homicide.

It was found by a landscaping crew on Bridge Rd east of I-95.

The Martin County Sheriff said the body, which had a tattoo, was in a moderate stage of decomposition and he believes it was in the area more than two or three days.

Sheriff William Snyder said there were signs of trauma on the body but the medical examiner would have to determine how that trauma occurred.

The remains do not match two missing persons descriptions currently in the county, Sheriff Snyder said.

HOBE SOUND — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a female body along Bridge Road on Friday morning as a homicide.

Sheriff William Snyder said lawn workers found the remains at about 8:10 a.m. in a bush on the south side of the road about 1 mile east of Interstate 95.

As of noon, authorities did not know the female’s identity. The local medical examiner’s office was at work trying to determine her name and her cause of death.

Snyder said the body appeared to have been there for two or three days and was in advanced state of decomposition. While authorities know it is a female, they do not know either her age or ethnicity.

Martin County has no reports of missing persons who fit the female’s description, Snyder said. He said his office is working with agencies north and south of Martin County to see if it fits any of their cases.

UPDATE: The Martin County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has identified the woman whose body was found along Bridge Road on February 15, 2019.

MCSO identified her as 46-year-old Marurra Jimenez Santos

Man, 18, arrested in February murder of woman north of Jupiter

An 18-year-old Broward County man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly confessed to shooting and killing a woman in February and dumping her body in a wooded area of Hobe Sound.

Samuel Faugues of Pompano Beach reportedly told investigators this week that he shot 46-year-old Marurra Jimenez Santos twice after she threatened him with a gun. He faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Faugues became a suspect when authorities examined Santos’ cellphone records and determined that Faugues was one of the last people to make contact with her.
