I have never been on web slueths, so I am brand new here lol but I just found out yesterday that my moms ex boyfriend was arrested, guess who? I was searching for the court info, so thank you for posting that. I am currently a co-host on a podcast and I will be sharing this case as much as I can, and also sharing our testimony about living with him. I am trying to make an "as clear as I can" timeline of anything I can find!

I always 100% thought he was a murderer, so this news is shocking, but not at the same time if that makes sense. I am still processing the fact that we lived with him, and I really don't know how that may affect me long term. I also am so very curious about the fact that they assigned the homicide unit.

Not sure exactly where I am going with this lol but I am happy to be here!

Ultimately, Brevard prosecutors did not file formal charges against Koehler and the case was dropped.

Not quite sure IF the trial starts on 6/21, as there is a discovery & status hearing (Seq #s 180 & 181) stating a hearing on 7/13/22. - ??
 
The release accuses the suspect of covering his victims’ faces (or his own), sometimes with pillowcases, holding a knife to their throats and threatening to “kill them or their family members before raping and robbing them.”

Authorities allege Koehler may have committed 40 to 45 rapes, though the release detailed one assault specifically, noting how difficult it was for the victims to go so many years without justice.

“In June 1984, a woman living in an apartment in Pompano Beach endured a sudden, cruel and violent attack in the sanctity of her home,” the BSO reported. “She was brutally raped at knifepoint by a man who broke into her apartment.”

At the time, stories of the Pillowcase Rapist were heavily reported by the media, but the case eventually went cold.

However, with the help of modern science and technological advances in DNA testing, along with meticulous record keeping and sample preservation from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, detectives were led to identify Koehler as the attacker.

Koehler was already jailed in a neighbouring county on similar charges related to the assault of a woman in the early ’80s, Tony revealed at the news conference. Koehler pleaded not guilty to this charge.

*Status Hearing (@ 9am ET) - FL – “Pillowcase Rapist” – 40 to 45 victims (May, 1981 to Feb. 1986, Miami to Deerfield Beach) - *Robert Eugene Koehler aka Robert Eugene Koeholer (22 @ time of 1st crime/60/now 62) – arrested (1/18/20) & held at Brevard County to await transfer to Miami-Dade County. Charged (1/21/20) & arraigned (2/11/20) with 1 count of aggravated kidnapping, 1 count of sexual battery with weapon causing serious injuries & 1 count of burglary/assault/armed. Plead not guilty. No bond.
Convicted sex offender for a sexual battery conviction in 1991. Familial DNA hit in CODIS (after his son was arrested).
Trial set to begin on 9/12/22.

6/10/22 Update: (#184) Motion for continuance of trial-granted. Trial on 6/21/22 has been vacated. Next Discovery Status hearing on 7/13/22, Felony sounding hearing on 9/2/22 & trial will now begin on 9/12/22. 6/22/22: (#185) Deposition of criminalist Jamie Bethel. 7/1/22: (#187) Deposition of Jennifer J. Hackett-video conference.
7/13/22 Update: Next status hearing on 8/17/22. 7/15/22: (#189) Amended discovery exhibit. 8/15/22: (#190-203) 14 subpoenas served.
FL – “Pillowcase Rapist” – 6 victims (1984-1985, Pompano Beach, Broward County) - *Robert Eugene Koehler aka Robert Eugene Koeholer (25 @ time of first crime/62) charged (6/7/22) with 6 counts of sexual assault in Broward County.
In June 1984, a woman living in an apartment in Pompano Beach endured a sudden, cruel & violent attack in the sanctity of her home. She was brutally raped at knifepoint by a man who broke into her apartment. On at least eight occasions in 1984 & 1985, detectives believe Koehler snuck into homes in Broward County late at night or in the wee hours of the morning through unlocked doors & attacked his victims while they slept or prepared for bed. He sometimes covered the heads of his victims or his own head, sometimes with pillowcases & threatened to kill them or their family members before raping & robbing them. Koehler will be brought to Broward County to face the charges against him, once the cases against him in Miami-Dade are adjudicated.
