Davie police confirm that a woman is missing in the area off 56th Street and SW 52nd Avenue, she was walking her dog in Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park at the time of the attack. The area is just west of the Turnpike and north of Stirling Road.

Police found the woman’s dog who was turned over to animal control for the time being.

I used to have 2 little Bichon Frise dogs and walked them frequently around a large alligator riddled lake in Florida...
until I was warned by a passerby that my dogs were like
marshmallows for 'gators.
Gators can lunge a greater distance than the length of their bodies
and they are very, very fast movers for short distances. You can't
be too careful around them.
Tragic happening here. Very sad.

Gators can be the ultimate stealth predator by lying in water with
only the eyes peeping above water, then they go totally underwater
and only come up to check out their prey.
My local TV news said they are searching for the woman AND her
other dog which is missing. One Dog they did find was injured.
so I wonder if gator attacked dog first and she intervened to save
her dog. Gators can rip off both arms of human very quickly,
then drag body into water. They are truly vicious creatures.

A witness told police he saw a woman walking two dogs and then noticed the dogs were barking near the water, but without her.

“He could not find the woman that was walking the dogs, so he called for police assistance and we’re still looking for her,” police said. ““At this time, we haven’t had any reports of anybody missing other than this witness, who saw her earlier and then never saw her again.”

Trappers have spotted an alligator in the pond that is about 12 feet long and were watching it

This is so sad...I hope this ends well but my instincts tell me it won’t.
Does anyone know what type of dogs they are? Not that it matters, any dog would be food to a gator. Just curious if they’re larger dogs and perhaps she felt safe walking in that area with them. As if she was protected? Just a thought...so sad

I just read this, has been a popular place for walking dogs until now.

Woman missing, her dogs found after reported alligator attack in Florida
The pond is in a park near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, a major Miami-area tourist and entertainment attraction.
Authorities closed the park Friday. CBS Miami reports the park is very popular. People go there to walk, walk their dogs and picnic. There are two lakes at the park and the reported attack happened in what is referred to as the North Lake.

Hmm, absolutely bizarre that the gator would get her and not the dogs but maybe she was trying to protect the dog (that had a fresh wound) and the gator took her instead. ???!!

When hunting for food, gators are opportunistic hunters. Most likely attacked and grabbed the dog who wriggled away and then
grabbed the woman. Large gators, over 9 ft. or so, wouldn't hesitate to attack a human.
Actually, considering there's more than a million gators in Fl. and
they reside in every county, it's noteworthy that there's not more
attacks than there are. also considering all the lakes and canals
are where they inhabit, attacks are pretty rare.
