Dade City Police respond to a suspected bank robbery. It wasn't.

"The Dade City Police Department thought it was responding to an armed bank robbery in progress Friday morning at a Wells Fargo Bank in Pasco County.

The suspects, the caller said, had just left in a black Kia.

But when officers caught up with the car and detained the two people inside, it took just five minutes or so after the call to realize it was all a significant misunderstanding.

Cell Phone Case Gives Bank Employees A Scare
Dade City police responded to the Wells Fargo bank at 14210 Seventh St. at 9:04 a.m. regarding a report of an armed robbery. Lt. Brian Uppercue said a man was reportedly sitting in a chair inside the lobby holding what appeared to bank employees as a Taser. It was actually a cell phone holder shaped like a Taser. The man never approached the counter and never threatened anyone, Uppercue said.
“This situation could have went sideways in so many different ways,” Uppercue said referring to their call to the bank.
A felony traffic stop was conducted on the suspect’s vehicle in the area of U.S. 301 and Morningside Drive. Investigating officers could see the cell phone holder on the floorboard and there were also some nunchucks on the seat.
Further investigation revealed no crime had occurred and and the man and his wife were both released.
The man was advised to turn the cell phone holder over to police but declined to do so. Uppercue said the man was advised he had made a bad decision and the man could have potentially been shot if an officer had observed him leaving the bank while holding the cell phone holder that looked like a Taser. After reflecting on the officer’s request, the gentleman later gave the cell phone holder to police.

Well, that is a new one on me. Never heard of a Taser shaped cell phone, and I hope I don't see one. It's good the bank called the police, I think.
