    UP12589

This one was added to NamUs just today. The circumstances caught my eye and I really feel like this one can be solved.
I have no idea whether the other 3 she was buried with have been identified, whose property this was, etc. I'm going to be doing some research on this and see if I can find anything.

    DEMOGRAPHICS
    • Age: 20 - 30 years old
    • Race: White
    • Height: 5'4 (64 inches), estimated
    • Body conditions: Not recognizable - Near complete or complete skeleton

    CIRCUMSTANCES
    • Found on March 19, 1981
    • Centerwood Avenue in Weeki Wachee, Hernando County, FL
    • Circumstances: This decedent was one of 4 decedents found buried on the same property in 1981.

    PHYSICAL/MEDICAL
    • Spina bifida occulta (partial) on the 4th and 5th sacral elements. May be evident in antemortem radiographs.

    CLOTHING
    • Partially-deteriorated piece of pinkish cloth was seen around the upper thigh and pelvic region

    IDENTIFIERS

    Some possible matches from Florida:

    PATRICIA ACTION
Pros: Age (25) is within range, race matches, height (5'4) matches. Distance is only 46 miles. Not reported to have spina bifida, but it does say she has to take medication for "unspecified reasons".
Cons: Postmortem interval is 2 years. Patricia went missing 7 months before that and it seems pretty clear she died very soon after she vanished, meaning the timing doesn't fit.

    SHARON HARRER
Pros: Age (20) is within range. Race matches, height (5'4 matches). Timing is consistent and distance is only 62 miles. Circumstances fit.
Cons: No report of spina bifida.

    MARY SPRAGUE
Pros: Age (19) is only one year off. Race matches. Height is 2 - 4 inches off. Timing is consistent
Cons: Distance is 135 miles. No report of spina bifida.

    LEEANN HUFFMAN
Pros: Age (29) is within range. Race matches. Height is only 2 inches off and distance is only 50 miles. Circumstances line up.
Cons: Timing is off by 6 months. No report of spina bifida.

    Aha! I found some info.

    http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/ci_21046319/state-officials-deny-parole-man-convicted-1982-killing
    http://www.crimezzz.net/serialkillers/M/MANSFIELD_william_jr.php

The property was occupied by serial killer William Mansfield Jr. in the 70 and 80s. Mansfield had a history of violence against women, including the rape and murder of a woman named Renee Sailing in 1980.

The police had begun excavating the property in March 1981 after being tipped off by an informant that they could find the body of missing 21-year-old Sandra Graham buried there. They found four bodies, two of whom have been identified as Sandra Graham and a 15-year-old named Elaine Zegler.

There are two unidentified victims. One of them was actually first to be dug up by the search crew. I can't find any stats about her, but I think she'll be added to NamUs soon. UP#12579 was the third set of remains to be recovered.

The decedent or her family may not have known she even had Spina bifida occulta according to Mayo Clinic. It is the mildest form and not notable unless an xray is done for other reasons. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/spina-bifida/basics/symptoms/con-20035356

Patty Action is a possibility IMO. She disappeared from a bar (at Ramada Inn Clearwater) and Billy Mansfield's victim in California disappeared from a bar. 2 years would be an estimate, could be older.

Also, Patty Action was wearing a jumpsuit that had pink stripes in the colors.

Edit- Here is a link to Porchlight International where they have posted an old news articles with pics of what the Jane Does might look like. They're calling them "Anna and Joanne". The first one has very similar features to Patty Action including hair color and jaw.

I sent an email to Dist 5 Medical Examiner office, which is the contact on Namus, to see if Patricia Action has been looked at. I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

Mansfield sounds like the type who probably has more victims than just those we know about, possibly victims from every state he lived in or visited.

I believe you are correct. We're not just talking about Billy Mansfield Jr here, his father was a sexual preditor according to news articles and was in prison 30 years when his property was searched and they found the bodies on.

There are a lot of stories about this dysfunctional family and their crime spree over the years. I'll post some of them.

This is a good one with some timeline to the families where abouts including Fl, MI, and Nevada over the years. They came to Weeki Wachee in 1973.

Sandra Graham, one of the victims buried at this same location, was also picked up from a bar (in Tampa). Another thing I noticed is that Patricia Action disappeared in Clearwater, and her car was found in Tarpon Springs. Both places are on US Route 19, with Tarpon Springs further north. And guess what's even further north along Route 19? Weeki Wachee.

You are correct! I just found this excerpt from the book "When Angels Weep" That says she was at a bar called "Pam's Liquor Lounge" on West Hillsborough. This is along the Oldsmar line. To get to Weeki Wachee back then he could have driven down Curlew Rd or Tampa Rd to US 19 and then North. Also the M.O. is very eerily simular to Patricia Action's abrupt disappearance from the Ramada Inn Lounge.

I called the District 5 ME's office a little less than 2 hours ago. The woman who answered said that, to her knowledge, Patricia has not been compared to UP#12579. She gave me the number for a Detective Boylen (Boylin?) but I didn't get an answer, so I'll call again tomorrow.

Oh, answered my own question. Good ole google. I think he was with Pasco Co. and now he's with Hernando which would be the one's handling Weeki Wachee where the 4 bodies where found.

His name is Det. James Boylan.
