FLDS - The Children

I wonder how they can return the kids if no parent has staked a claim on the kids yet? (DNA test)
I'm not so sure they will until/unless people show up with birth certificates and other documents showing that they are the parents of those children. Even then they'll err on the side of caution by a dna test.

They should make sure a birth certificate is presented.
Anyone could say I am the parent of so & so....

WJ must be a happy man today.

This is such an extremely sad case because the children are victims of their own parents as well as the state. If they are reunited with their parents they are definitly at risk of sexual abuse & possible physical abuse. On the other hand, they have been traumatized by their abrupt removal from their homes & families & dumped into a totally alien environment. They were taken away from the only home they had ever known & put with strangers where the cultural differences were extreme. Kinda like taking one of our children & relocating them to the Amazon jungle. I worked for 16 years in the foster care environment & never saw one child who did not long for his/her family. No matter the final outcome of this case, it is still the children who suffer & will continue to do so.

The number of underage girls thought to have been sexually abused because they were forced into a spiritual union with an adult male or impregnated by an adult has ranged from five to as many as 31. Now, that number stands at 11 girls, ages 12 to 17, according to a source close to the investigation.

One of those girls is thought to be a 16-year-old whose separate release Tuesday came with extra conditions after her lawyer claimed the girl was a victim of sexual abuse.

The court order signed by state District Judge Barbara Walther allows the girl, a daughter of jailed FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs, to be reunited in a private Bexar County residence with her mother, Annette Jeffs.

Walther's order also stipulates she cannot reside outside of Bexar County; cannot have contact with her father, a convicted sex offender awaiting a second trial in Arizona; or another alleged perpetrator, a man in his late 30s whose relationship to the girl is not established in the court order.

Natalie Malonis, the girl's attorney, said she felt her client's safety would be jeopardized without the special protections.

Underage FLDS moms may be subpoenaed
Texas grand jury to convene in polygamous sect case; indictments could follow

About 143 children and their parents have returned to the ranch, while the rest have set up homes in San Antonio and other locales across Texas.

CPS has begun scheduling or conducting interviews with some mothers, several attorneys said - including sessions Thursday at the YFZ Ranch.

During the probe at the ranch, Texas Rangers seized thousands of documents that are being culled for evidence in a case likely to focus on underage marriages. The Texas Attorney General's Office is leading the criminal investigation.

The state also has DNA samples from about 600 FLDS members in order to match parents and children - samples that may be useful in verifying whether older men had children with underage girls.
