Your welcome, Chewawa007.. Although I am not Catholic..I am a retired Atlanta Fire Captain & do know a little about St Francis of Assisi.

The first recorded victim of 09/11/2001 was the NYFD Chaplain; Father Michael Judge, who was ordained through his church, St. Francis of Assisi..
Mickey Schunick, is in some very good company and will be patiently waiting for her family & beloved pets to join her at the rainbow bridge..someday..

Ah, add me to the people who feel like something must be said and yet there are no words. I'm also trying to explain to a child that something bad happened to Mickey (my son, the kid in the first video I posted of the route).

I'm still thinking of all the people she touched and meant the most to, especially her family and friends. I hope that they can find some solace in knowing that there are so many people grieving for Mickey, regardless of if they knew her personally.

Since we're all adding songs that have some meaning, here's my offering. It's something I've been listening to a lot lately, and I hope that her family and friends, as well as all of us here, can relate.

After watching "Calling All Angels" I watched one of the linked videos from HLN. Man, I was floored by what was said by Charlene and one of the guys about someone hitting Mickey on her bike. I swear I hadn't seen this before making the comment about BSL's hypothetical excuse for what he did. This is weird. Believe me, BSL's mind is keener than some give him credit. He'll try and worm his way out.

Some people leave a void. Mickey’s will be massive for her family and friends and will resonate all over Acadiana,” Nancy Rowe wrote in a text message to The Daily Advertiser. “She brought about a huge swell of community spirit. I hope it will continue to grow. We must watch each other’s backs, and we must not be afraid to stand up to pure evil.”

The Mickey Shunick Volunteer Headquarters also released a statement to discuss “the result we all feared,” thanking the Acadiana community for its continuous support, requesting prayers for the Shunick family and encouraging people to be inspired by Shunick’s life.

“Let us now grieve together for our loss of such a bright light in our live,” the statement read. “Let us not give into anger for what has been done, but let us instead strive to do as Mickey did before her light was taken from us. Let us do our part to make the world a little brighter.”

What through the radiance which once was so bright
Be now forever taken from our sight,
Though nothing can bring back to hour
    Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
    Strength in what remains behind

Mickey your eternal light will shine upon us from the heavens above.
Mr. Tom, Mrs. Nancy, Zack and precious Charlie may God guide you through the days to come and know that Mickey is smiling down on you.

I dont really post here, although I have followed this case from the beginning. I am heartbrokrn hearing th news. I am however glad that her family will have the opportunity to give her a propper burial and pick up the pieces and eventually repair their lives. I am a Texas transplant who landed here just over six years ago, and I have come to adore Lafayette. When Mickey first went missing, it was easy for me to understand the coming together of this unique community, although I think perhaps that it far exceeded anyone's expectations.

Having said that, Mickey's disappearance captured me from the beginning, although like many here, I don't think that I can pinpoint exactly why. I didn't know her, or her family, but I do live here and pass many of the landmarks we have talked and read about every day. Perhaps that's it...the closeness of it all. I passed Artmosphere today on the way home, have crossed Whiskey Bay too many times to count, and often find my errands taking me by some part of UL. So now, I feel like I do 'know' them, as many do. A day has not gone by that I haven't thought about Mickey, or spoken of her with others. My heart is so heavy for her parents and siblings, as well as her close friends.

On Tuesday, before lunch, a friend and co-worker unexpectedly passed away while at work. My office is very small, so this hit us particularly hard. Not more than a few hours later, we learned that Mickey had been found. It has been an emotionally trying week, to say the least, and I can't wait for it to be over with, just as I can't wait for the suffering of Mickey's friends and family to be eased in some way - any way.

Tomorrow is my friend's funeral. It is there that I will thank God that I had the pleasure of knowing him, as well as being a small part of a community that has made me so proud. God bless Mickey Shunick, a ray of sunshine in this often times heartless world. All I can do now is hope that justice is indeed served, because justice is something that we all so desperately need to happen.

someone else suggested a dog park in conjunction with the bike paths as we know mickey was an animal lover too. This would be a perfect tribute to her and her interests / causes.
Actually someone here earlier, don't remember who, disagreed saying that other missing persons haven't gotten such recognition. My rebuttal is that no one else has brought the lafayette community and beyond, together with such passion. Mickey has captured all of our hearts and brought recognition to a missing person like no other. She fought and stopped bsl from abducting, hurting,
killing other innocents. In addition, she has prevented bsl from marrying some poor innocent girl who really did not know him and his dark side. We all owe mickey a debt of gratitude, along with her family, friends, search groups, headquarter volunteers,
just everyone who was her voice and brought about such a movement. People who spoke of / for her relentlessly in seeking to find her, seeking justice for her and in bringing her home to her grieving family. God bless you all and give us all healing in this tragic senseless murder. It's just too sad to comprehend someone snuffing out the life of a young free spirited woman with such of a bright future ahead of her. I cannot imagine the shock and despair her family has to deal with for the rest of their lives ! God help them every day to bear this.

Guys, here's a tip on posting YouTube videos. Copy the url in the address bar at the top of the YT page and paste it directly into your post. The embed codes don't work here.

I believe LE is simply holding out on a PC until they feel comfortable announcing any deals in place. I doubt very much they are holding off due to their own emotions, etc...Surely they have known since Tuesday that Mickey had been found.

I also doubt very much that an Alford plea would be acceptable in this case to the DA. If there is a plea deal, he has to plead guilty to murder, and give details that match the evidence. He cannot go on about an accident and cover-up, etc...LE won't buy that, and I don't think they would even have made a deal based on a story like that.

I do hope Mickey's family can find a way to deal with any arrangements that have been made with BL, assuming there is a plea forthcoming, and that if not in agreement, they are at least fully aware before the public is told.

I guess I am not shocked by tonight's news, as it was obvious to me Mickey had been found on Tuesday and I have been grieving for her since the announcement of her bike being found-perhaps pessimistic of me, but I felt certain at that time that she was gone.

Thinking of Charlene and her parents and Mickey's friends tonight.

Not sure how I know it, but I do. You and I began posting on the same day for the first time. I always felt a kindred spirit with you. Kind of like you "got me" when no one else did.

I am so sad to see how this journey is ending, but I am ever so proud to have witnessed it with all of you. All of you are class acts.

Mickey is now truly an angel...but I dedicate this to all of you, as well, because your hearts have shown that there truly are angels among us. Some just haven't gotten their wings yet.

My contribution to all the beautiful music being posted in memory of Mickey. This song was one I used as a tribute when I lost my son. Rest in peace, sweet girl.

Praying that the Shunicks feel "held" tonight. Mickey has become everyone's baby sister (or daughter). I can't begin to imagine the raw emptiness this week has brought for them. Incomprehensible is the impact she's had on our community. Continued prayers for Mickey's family and friends and all of her new friends who have yet to meet her. No doubt she is eternally happy and beautiful and peaceful.
To the WS community-- thank you for helping me to think out of the box and for never giving up on our sweet girl...
    This one's for you, Mickey...
