    BREAKING: Huge explosion rocks Paris as Yellow Vest activists gather - many injured

    The blast was heard in the centre of the city as dawn broke over the French capital. French police have confirmed they fear extensive casualties and are advising people to stay away from the area.

    Emergency services rushed to Rue de Treviso in Paris's 9th District, a short walk from the Louvre Museum.

    Paris was already on high alter and crawling with police as the city braces itself for another weekend of potentially violent Yellow Vest protests.

    Paris police said firefighters are at the scene in the 9th arrondissement.

    A police spokeswoman said several injuries have been reported but no deaths.

    French television showed emergency vehicles surrounding the area.

    Paris Explosion at Bakery Kills at Least 3 and Injures Dozens

    A powerful explosion tore through a bakery in central Paris early on Saturday, killing at least three people, including two firefighters, and leaving smoke, flames and scattered debris in its wake, the authorities said.

    Police and city officials said the blast, which occurred on Rue de Trévise, was believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

    The Paris prosecutor’s office said that 47 people had been injured by the explosion, 10 of them critically. Emergency medical workers used helicopters to help evacuate some of the injured, picking them on the square in front of the Paris Opera house and taking them to hospitals.

    Spain’s Foreign Ministry said that a Spanish woman had also been killed in the blast, and that a Spanish couple were being treated in the hospital. Christophe Castaner, the French interior minister, said two Paris firefighters were among the dead.

    How did the fire fighters get killed? Was there a second explosion?

    There were firefighters inside the building before the blast to check for gas leaks. This sounds as if 2 of them died in the explosion:
