Would you please post the link for the media articles. Thank you.
link to the media/timeline/reference thread for this case
I have a family member who seems very similar to this mom. Nothing she says 'adds up ' and her facial expressions and mannerisms and speech always seems odd like she's talking about something completely different than the topic at hand. It's just her way. She might tell you ' the house is on fire' and ' this cake is good' with the exact same tone of voice and expression .
IMO this sometimes comes with the use of antidepressants.
Lack of visual or recognizable emotion.
I was like that when I was on Celexa.
Me too my Grandmother raised me and she was a Paranoid schizophrenic (SP) it was a nightmare her sister was in an in an institution I have NO IDEA why I didnt figure this out when she was first interviewed! it weird to have to deal with the insanity, Im sure I developed some issues I have been diagnosed with borderline personality and bipolar so now that I know her issues it all makes sense poor Mom I would be on Suicide watch for sure she really needs an advocate , I hope the father knows this and will help her
And all some people can talk about is the poor mother who was shot and watched her baby boy shot between the eyes and die in her arms as she helplessly tried to rescucitate him! :furious:
What I want to know is why her child(ren) were still in her custody??? How can someone parent from jail???
I don't believe most here have any idea who these people are, from DE, to his little buddy. There is a big disconnect from suburbia, rural, or normal city living. Sad to say, you just don't understand.
I cannot say further, what I say may be "construed" as racist. It isn't, but I shan't speak further. I will say I'm older, before civil rights, have seen more, understand more, spent much time in Georgia. I DO understand.
If anyone has links to the FB accounts and/or Twitters for any of these people and associates, <modsnip>?
This is a national story. Where are the mental health advocates?
Will someone please post the PDF for members to see the article in today's Brunswick paper "Lawyer wants mother's records" by Michael Hall Brunswick News. Someone copy/pasted it for me and I don't think I am allowed to copy/paste it to this forum. I don't have PDF link.
IMO. In more than one way, this case has become a travesty against humanity. First a little baby and now his mother.
****-life knows no race. let's move on.
Leave race out of this crime on this thread. Two, fairly young boys, shot a mother and her baby. This is a crime against humanity - not a crime about race. Drop the race issue. We are not going to discuss it.
We have seen perps from all walks of life and we have seen their defenders, from all walks of life. These are allegeded perps and/or their defenders. The end.
I will say this. Geography is destiny. What we are born into has a profound effect on who we are. But in the end, unless someone is born with a sociopath or a psychopath (and I'm speaking clinically here) it is about nurture, not nature.
Just found these updates from Erica Rakow's twitter account. Erica is a reporter for WJXT4.

The following are the revised criteria for a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR):
Two (or more) of the following symptoms are present for the majority of a one-month period (or a shorter period of time if symptoms improved with treatment):
-disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence) which is a manifestation of formal thought disorder
-grossly disorganized behavior (e.g. dressing inappropriately, crying frequently) or -catatonic behavior
-negative symptoms—e.g., affective flattening (lack or decline in emotional response), alogia (lack or decline in speech), avolition (lack or decline in motivation), anhedonia (lack or decline in ability to experience pleasure), social withdrawal (sometimes called social anhedonia). Negative symptoms refers to symptoms that are not present or that are diminished in the affected individual but are usually found in healthy persons.
If the delusions are judged to be bizarre, or hallucinations consist of hearing one voice participating in a running commentary of the individual's actions or of hearing two or more voices conversing with each other, only that symptom is required to meet criterion A above. The speech disorganization criterion is only met if it is severe enough to substantially impair communication and at some time during the illness there is either one, two or all three of the following:
-major depressive episode
During the illness, delusions or hallucinations were present for a minimum of two weeks, without major mood symptoms.
For a substantial part of the overall duration of both the active and residual period of the illness, symptoms meeting criteria for a mood episode are present.
Symptoms are not caused by drug abuse, medication (including antidepressant or sleeping medication) or another medical condition.

If SW is truly schizoaffective as the daughter claims, the symptom I've bolded explains her seemingly odd behavior.
There is also a psychological phenomenon called "inappropriate affect" when your outward mood manifestations don't match your actual mood. Laughing at a funeral, for example. This could explain some of her behavior as well.
interesting. I'm still not convinced either way.
This is sort of off-topic for this thread, but I'm not sure how you can make such a blanket statement of something that is very hotly debated in the sociological and psychiatric field. There certainly are people who have spent their entire careers researching this.
I have to say I'm about 100% in the "nature" category. I think we come as we are, with our inherited destinies intact. Identical twins separated at birth usually end up in virtually the exact same place in life - even if their beginnings were very different. The greatest determiner of criminality in a son is criminality of the father, regardless of whether the son ever knew his father or ever knew the father was a criminal, and the boy was adopted out at birth.
I fully believe that we inherit, genetically, almost everything we become. Especially boys.
Several depts. involved in searching, helping with investigation:

"We are investigating every possible angle and every possible probability that would cause something like this to happen," Rhodes told ABCNews.com.
When asked if police were investigating whether the mother could be making up the story, Rhodes said, "There is nothing out of the question. We are not overlooking anything."

The boy's father, Louis Santiago, told the TV station he wishes he could have been there to protect his family.
"He was special," Santiago said. "He had the bluest, bluest eyes."
From the WJXT4 Facebook page-
We just spoke to the parents of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. His mom believes a former neighbor may be connected to the shooting death because she got the neighbor evicted for drugs.
It's not the mother's first loss of a child to violence. [The mother] said her 18-year-old son, was killed in New Jersey in 2008. She still has a newspaper clipping from the time.

Glassey was killed with a steak knife in March 2008 during an attack involving several other teens on a dark street corner in Gloucester County, N.J., according to news reports from the time.
“He and some other boys were going to ambush a kid,” Bernie Weisenfeld, a spokesman for the Gloucester County prosecutor’s office, told the AP Friday
uncut interview with mom.
“I didn’t know I was hurt.”
“The boy proceeded to go around to the stroller and he shot my baby in the face,” she said. “And then he just shoved me when I started screaming and he ran down London Street with the little boy.”

Green declined to provide further details, other than to say it continued to be an open investigation, and that no weapon had yet been recovered.
"I feel glad that justice will be served," West said.
"It's not something I'm going to live with very well. I'm just glad they caught him."
West said detectives showed her mugshots of about 24 young men.
She pointed to one, saying he looked like the gunman.
"After I picked him, they said they had him in custody," West said.
"It looked just like him. So I think we got our man."
West said she thought the other suspect looked much younger: "That little boy did not look 14."
"I am devastated, I am sad because they got the wrong person," said Elkins' aunt Katrina Freeman. "I hate what happened to that baby because no baby deserves to go through that. But at the same time, they are taking someone to jail that is innocent."
Freeman said Elkins was at her home at the time of the shooting.
"I am 100 percent positive that De'Marquise Elkins was not at that crime scene. He was at my residence."

This is a list of news links posted to thread one on 3/22/13. I tried to go back through the thread and transfer each link over here for ease of location later but I may have missed one or two. My apologies if there is any duplication. I regret that time did not allow me to credit each member who originally posted each link. Many thank to all whose posts I scavenged to compile this list
I thought he was being 'generous' with both descriptions. But he's a lawyer. He knows about slander. I believe he IS watching his words.
