Investigator to re-open 22-year-old murder case
by: Rachel Stockman Updated: May 9, 2013 - 7:43 PM

    [...]

Deborah Jean McKneely disappeared from her home in 1991, sometime after her two young children left for school.

Investigators found traces of her blood inside her home and in a carport. There was also evidence of forced entry to the home. Her children discovered her missing, and reported to authorities. Investigators recovered her SUV in Decatur, which also contained her blood.

The cold case will be re-opened after the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office swore in a new cold case investigator. He will be looking into 11 cold cases, and focusing next on McKneely's disappearance.

"(We want) to see if there is something that crime labs can now do with DNA that wasn't available 17 or 21 years ago," cold case investigator Ronnie Godwin explained.

Police and Deborah's brother feel sure it was a case of domestic violence. She was to sign divorce papers the day she disappeared, and is believed to be deceased.

McKneely disappeared from 3736 Union Church Road, Rockdale County, GA on January 29, 1991, sometime between 7:30 am and 4:45 pm, the times when her children left for and returned from school.
The back door of the residence was kicked open and a windowpane in the door from the garage was broken. Blood was found in the house and carport. Nothing was taken from the home. A white pickup truck was seen in the area during this period.

Her automobile, a 1985 tan and black Chevrolet, S-10 Blazer was found the next day in DeKalb County behind Decatur High School. Blood was found in the vehicle. The keys were left in the vehicle and cash was placed in plain view in what investigators believe was an effort to "bait" the vehicle for potential car thieves.

Investigators believe that at least two people were involved in the abduction.

She was living with her two sons and had been separated from her husband since November 1989. She and her husband were scheduled to finalize their divorce and disposition of property at 5 p.m. the day she disappeared.

I've submitted this Doe for Deborah before, but since Deborah doesn't have DNA processed yet there's no telling if it is a match.

FYI this Jane Doe was found across the street from my school growing up in the eventual neighborhood all my friends would end up living in. The area the Jane Doe was found is also where the highschool teens went as a lover's lane back in the 1970's before the land was developed and this Doe was discovered.
