Third autopsy results show ‘non-accidental’ damage to boy found dead in rolled up in gym mat

WALB has obtained autopsy results of the third autopsy done on Kendrick “K.J." Johnson.

In what appears to be an addendum to the second autopsy report, done in June of 2013, it was determined Johnson’s cause of death was non-accidental blunt force trauma to his right neck and right thorax, which is the body cavity between the neck and abdomen.

The third autopsy also contradicts the findings of the first autopsy, which determined the cause of death as positional asphyxia.

Members of Johnson’s family protested the original autopsy findings, believing he was murdered.

This is a developing story and WALB will update as more information becomes available.

Autopsy report: Kendrick Johnson Third Autopsy

Was this 3rd autopsy performed by the same person that did the 2nd one? Imho the Johnson family would have made the autopsy public if something significant was discovered. I've been waiting for the results since the exhumation was announced.

Third autopsy claims foul play in Valdosta gym mat death case
Johnson, the Lowndes High School sophomore whose body was found in a rolled-up gym mat nearly six years ago, died from non-accidental blunt force trauma between his neck and abdomen, the third autopsy concludes. That mirrors the findings from the first autopsy, paid for by Kendrick’s parents, Kenneth and Jackie Johnson, who once again hired William Anderson to examine their son’s body.

The affidavit dated Feb. of 2018 is quite damning although it's what the person heard from a 3rd party and not what was seen directly. This person's description of what happened matches the description of the condition of the body from hired forensic pathologist Dr. Andersen. (2nd and 3rd autopsy).

It's difficult to determine what the addendum is but it could be the collection of tissue from the victim. The report states it was collected in June of 2018 from the areas of trauma
to the body.

This is terribly sad and tragic.

KJ family seeks coroner's inquest

Dec 28, 2018

"VALDOSTA — The family of Kendrick "KJ" Johnson has filed a petition for a coroner's inquest, demanding a jury hear evidence regarding the teen's death nearly six years ago.

Chevene King, attorney for the Johnsons, filed the petition Friday in Lowndes County Superior Court. The petition for mandamus names former coroner Bill Watson and current Lowndes County Coroner Austin Fiveash as defendants; the petition seeks a coroner’s inquest with a jury, which would look into the death of Johnson.

The jury could decide if foul play occurred in Johnson’s death, which took place January 2013. His body was found in a rolled-up gym mat inside the Lowndes High School gym. A state autopsy and a federal investigation concluded the death was accidental. The family maintains Johnson, 17, was killed....

The petition asks the court for a decision between 10-30 days — to let King and the family know if the coroner’s inquest is approved or denied and, if it is denied, why. .."

I wish nothing but the very best for the Johnson family. The injustice this family has been exposed to is not acceptable. I will in some way try to provide assistance through persuasian to the right people for this family so they can find the truth in order to put closure to this horrible event.

There have been some more autopsy photos released and some of the appear to show fingernail marks on his neck and shoulder area.
Appear to have been taken shortly after death and before the exhumation.
Is it o.k. to link or upload them here with a graphic warning ?

Eta : Unless everyone here has already viewed them. Haven't followed this case as much as some here, because I felt it was solved and there was nothing more to discover.

Outside of the three autopsies ... and some photos that were new (to me), not much since 2016.
Anonymous did a video.

It'd take some more 'muscle' than that to get the ball rolling if harm's been done.

Apparently the bruises could also be explained by lividity.
Those scratches looked like defensive wounds to me, and the neck and upper body bruise was large.

Again, just pooling blood ?
And if he died whilst hanging upside down in the mat-- why so much blood ?

I'd expect the blackened face from blood rushing to that area-- but wouldn't it stay in the body and not flow out ?

Probably most have viewed the additional crime scene photos by now.
