Gabby Petito once lived in Wilmington; friends share memories
... Before the headlines, Petito lived in Carolina Beach, worked in Wilmington, and even though she didn’t end up going, she applied to Cape Fear Community College.

Smoke on the Water General Manager Lara Witschen says Petito worked there from September 2017 to January 2019. She worked as a hostess and in the kitchen while there before moving to Florida.

Around 4 a.m. this morning, an unidentified man stuck an envelope to the #Laundrie’s front door. Later, this chalkboard was left on their mailbox. Then a FedEx driver left a package on the porch. Sundown in 10 minutes and none of it’s been touched.

Gabby Petito autopsy paints grim picture of last moments, experts say | Fox News
[...]

Dr. Dan Field, a board-certified emergency physician and an expert witness in strangulation and homicide cases, said killing someone by strangulation is a long, deliberate process.

[...]

... While the sequence of events leading to Petito’s death remains publicly unknown, Field said that statistically speaking, accidental strangulation between intimate partners is far less common than foul play.

[...]

"If you don't have an eyewitness, then you're going to have to build a circumstantial case," Field explained. "And if the circumstances place the two of them in the same place, at the same time or near the time of her death, that's circumstantial evidence that, he was involved in her death. Not proof -- but circumstantial evidence."

[...]

Strangulation can also be unplanned, emotional and impulsive, according to Dr. Ziv Cohen, a New York City-based criminal psychiatrist.

"Strangulation is a more intimate type of homicide, and so it generally points us in the direction of somebody certainly who knew her or who might have gotten physical with her," he said.

[...]

"If there's been evidence of some interpersonal violence previously, it raises the likelihood of homicidal strangulation to a much higher degree," he said, also bringing up the Moab incident. "So I know that there was some issues between the two. Apparently, they were fighting their way across the country in the van."

[...]

Petito also gestured in the bodycam video toward her jawline – which Salt Lake City-based private investigator Jason Jensen said earlier this week is a red flag indicating that she had previously been grabbed by the throat.

[...]

"There's a lot of evidence, from the 911 calls, from the witnesses at Merry Piglets, and I believe there were other witnesses, that their relationship was spiraling out of control," Cohen said. "There was conflict, verbal conflict, physical conflict, and certainly, I think that the Merry Piglets episode is significant in the sense that even other people were running afoul of Brian Laundrie."

[...]

"We know that he couldn't contain his behavior, even in a public place like a restaurant," Cohen said. "When we shortly thereafter find her strangled to death, it does suggest a kind of intimate type of homicide, domestic abuse, type of homicide between a couple -- and therefore certainly makes Brian Laundrie the main suspect."

Additionally, details about the crime scene that have not been publicly released could be a factor in what charges, if any, prosecutors eventually seek, Cohen said.

The positioning of Petito’s body could indicate remorse or cruelty, for example.

"That, again, is circumstantial evidence," he said. "But it could point to something that's more suggestive of intimate partner violence."

About the cadaver/HRD dog at yesterday’s #BrianLaundrie search @ Carlton Reserve The Pasco County sheriff told @mikerreports

“It's important to note that the K9 trainer drives a vehicle that says ‘Arson Investigation’ on it, but they have not requested our arson K9 or investigators. This trainer simply helps train our HRD K9s and is acting essentially as a ‘spotter’ for the working K9's safety.” 2/3

“The HRD [cadaver] K9 assisting is handled by one of our Forensic Investigators, so you may see a PSO Forensics vehicle as well. This is not the first time we have been requested.” 3/3

Brian Laundrie 'very much in control' of Gabby Petito during road trip, former FBI researcher says | Fox News
Fugitive Brian Laundrie appeared "very much in control" of his late fiancée, Gabby Petito, during their cross-country road trip before she disappeared, former FBI Behavioral Science Unit researcher Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess says.

[...]

Referring specifically to Aug. 12 bodycam footage from police in Moab, Utah, following a domestic incident, Burgess noted that Laundrie appeared to have control over Petito's van because he was driving it; control over her finances because he reportedly used her credit card; and, ultimately, control over her because he "kept her isolated" by traveling to remote areas and camping, Burgess said. She also noted that Petito's remains were found in an isolated area.

[...]

Burgess also mentioned that Laundrie continued to refer to Petito as his fiancée to police in the video despite the fact that her mother, Nichole Schmidt, told media outlets earlier in the saga that the pair had decided to hold off on getting married to travel.

"To Laundrie this is very, very important, and I think what sets into motion the final days for her," Burgess said of their engagement.

Brian Laundrie's pal claims Gabby's fiancé has resources to get out of US illegally & reveals where he may be hiding (the-sun.com)
Laundrie's long-time pal exclusively told The Sun that Gabby’s Petito's on-the-run fiancé had plans of living outside the US since high school and revealed the countries he may escape to.

[...]

He added that from a young age, Laundrie has been a good planner and can execute his plans in exactly the way he wants.

[...]

"I think he'd be able to put the resources together to get out of the country, either illegally or under some sort of a fake identification,” the friend told The Sun.

“He's the type of person that would be able to drop everything to secure his means of not being captured and to evade arrest or evade prosecution from what seems to be a pending crime."

[...]

Laundrie and the friend would have conversations about places they would like to see and countries they would like to live in one day.

Brain’s favorite film director is Neill Blomkamp, who created Chappie, Elysium and District Nine.

“Blomkamp is from South Africa,” the friend said. “That's a country that Brian was talking about a lot because that was one of his favorite genres of movies.

[...]

“One of his favorite movies was always Lord of the Rings, which all the filming occurred in New Zealand and it is a very beautiful country,” the friend said.

“So I'm sure if he had the time and the resources in a few years and he really needed to get away from this issue, that's probably somewhere he would end up."

FBI 'may have pics or texts PROVING Brian Laundrie is in Carlton Reserve'

“And the attorney has repeatedly said he's representing the Laundrie family and Brian. He would not represent someone that is not alive."

Bertolino has consistently referred to the Laundrie family as his clients and has served them for two decades.

[...]

“This formality has not really changed the circumstances of Mr. Laundrie being the focus and attention of law enforcement and Mr. Laundrie will continue to remain silent on the advice of counsel."

Brian Laundrie: What happens if he isn't found in the coming weeks - CNN
[...]

So far, investigators have found no sign of him in the vast reserve they've been combing through. Last week, North Port police spokesperson Josh Taylor said there had been "nothing to suggest" whether Laundrie was alive or not. Police also said no one has seen Laundrie in the reserve, adding that the search was prompted by information from Laundrie's parents, who said he went there. Taylor said search teams have not found any physical evidence of Laundrie there but plan to continue the search until they have better information.

[...]

CNN reached out to North Port police for more details on the search.

"We will not be providing daily updates and details on the search. If and when something of substance is found, we will be a part of that conversation at that time," Taylor said.

The FBI did not comment on CNN's questions about the search.

[...]

Those initial areas of focus would likely include the dry areas, as parts of the reserve tend to be swamp-like, according to Chris Boyer, executive director for the nonprofit National Association for Search and Rescue. Other areas of focus could include places that are away from hiking paths or trails, in case Laundrie wanted to evade authorities and avoid being found.

[...]

Boyer added that he believes if Laundrie was in the reserve authorities would have found him by now or would have found clues from him.

A big part of how investigators search and what areas they focus on usually has to do with the kinds of tips they're receiving. At this point in the investigation, many tips are still likely coming in, Belli said.

"I'm sure they're getting many, many tips. So continuing the search, it seems perfectly appropriate to me, even though it has been a while," he said. "In (2006) we had the murder of one of our police officers and there were over 6,500 tips in that particular case over the years, and a good 4,000 of those came in the very beginning months of that investigation."

[...]

"You look at this and you go back to the day that he actually was reported missing and you go, 'Okay, even if the guy was only walking at three miles an hour, and he only walked eight hours a day, that's 24 miles a day that he could go in any one direction, times X number of days,'" Boyer said. "He could have walked out of the state of Florida, probably. If he was in a car, driving at 35 or 40 or 60 miles an hour, he could be anywhere in the United States."

[...]

"As far as this being a cold case... it's a department by department definition, but across the board, typically people will accept three to five years with absolutely no new leads, no new evidence, no new nothing (until it goes cold), and that is so far from where we are," said Sheryl McCollum, director of the nonprofit Cold Case Investigative Research Institute. "That's not the case here at all."

Brian Laundrie & Gabby Petito's 'explosive' fight at restaurant on last day she was seen alive is 'most important' clue (the-sun.com)
[...]

Dr Ann Wolbert Burgess, who pioneered the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, told Fox News the argument between fugitive Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito that witnesses observed at a Wyoming restaurant on August 27 may be the key to Petito's tragic fate.

She said: "How she has to apologize for his behavior is something that's kind of characteristic, and this probably enrages him even more because he wants to appear in a certain way.”

[...]

"It wasn't necessarily between them, it was more so Gabby abruptly leaving the restaurant crying, and Brian was just evidently really upset, p***ed off, I would say.

"I would say Gabby was upset, he was angry, and he was just being very temperamental towards the restaurant staff."

Angelo described Laundrie's body language as "aggressive" and said that he left and returned to the restaurant around four times, continuing the conflict.

[...]

Dr Burgess said the argument happened "on the day or very close to the day that she is murdered".

Dr. Brent Blue resigns from hospital post; will continue as Teton County coroner
Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue is in talks with his lawyer and plans to negotiate with St. John’s Health after he returns from a family trip to Italy.

For the past year, Blue worked for the Jackson hospital as a contracted physician. Last Friday, Oct. 8, he said he was called by his supervisor, director of physician services Jim Barrett, who reportedly told Blue he couldn’t continue using his personal computer at the hospital.

There is no policy barring hospital contractors from using their personal computers, St. John’s chief communications officer Karen Connelly told the Jackson Hole Daily. She declined to comment further on the matter.

Brian Laundrie’s Ford Mustang Was Never at Carlton Reserve – Crime Online
Brian Laundrie reportedly parked his car around 17 miles away from what his parents allegedly reported.

According to an abandoned vehicle report created on September 14, Laundrie’s grey Mustang was found at 6968 Reisterstown Road in the Myakkahatchee Environmental Park in Florida, which is about 17 miles from and adjacent to part of the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Reserve, where authorities have been searching for Brian Laundrie.
