GBC Trial General Discussion Thread #2

Please can anyone advise as to the audio of the QPS interview with G? Have read the transcript with all the umms and ahs etc but I understand (I think) that it can be heard now? Reading the transcript, reminds me of a seriously sleep deprived person, speaking in auto mode. That version alone is enough IMO to incriminate him.

Sue Heath said that he mentioned this scream during a phone call she had with him.

So if he didn't hear a scream that would suggest she is also lying

I think she testified - unless I'm mistaken - that HE said he could hear the screams while on the phone to her (didn't he ask her to turn down the TV - but screams from outside the phone don't sound like they're coming VIA the phone). But she also testified that SHE could NOT hear the screams via the phone.

If Marly or anyone else is able to check Sue Heath's testimony, and correct me if I'm wrong, then I'll have to re-think that bit :banghead:

Quick notice to all...

WS server will be going offline shortly for around 15mins.

I was just thinking of this as I lay in bed, we have always assume that Allison may have been loathe to walk on the morning of the 20th because she had her hair done the night before. It was her third visit to the salon to fix the colour, so it was freebie, Thursday night busy salon, Allison was going home. I wonder if they didn't style her hair (GBC comment about heating the hot rollers the next morning also put this thought into my head) they just dried it off. Blow dries usual are a separate charge, so on a busy they may not go that far.

If this is the case then she would not have worried about disturbing her styling while out walking.

I can't imagine scenario in the morning someone will have a better imagination then I do, but perhaps she did go for a walk in the morning

Nods. So she slept in them then went walking in them too? Do people do that? Genuine question, I'm no being a smart *advertiser censored***.

Hand up! Sleeping in my walking gear is the only way I have been able to do morning walks when the weather gets colder. When you feel the cold badly, as the girls mentioned their mum did, it is impossible to get changed from pjs to trackies at that hour. Yes, even in Brisbane.

MOGGILL MP and former Housing Minister Bruce Flegg heard two screams on the night Allison Baden-Clay went missing, court documents say.

Sue Heath said in a police statement she was talking to Dr Flegg on the phone at about 10.53pm when he heard the first scream.

"When he went to check it out at the front of his house he heard a second scream," reads the statement, lodged in court for Baden-Clay's bail application this week.

Dr Flegg's home sits high on a hill about 1km from the house where Gerard and Allison Baden-Clay lived at Brookfield.

Sue Heath couldn't hear the screams, even though she was on the phone to FLegg at the same time. Doesn't mean anything conclusive or otherwise though IMO.
You would have to be dead silent with a dead silent background to pick up anything off someone else's phone.

And there is still the question of whether or not the three girls were left totally alone in the house for a couple of hours..... Or not???

More on Sue Heath from yesterday....

Ms Heath said she spoke to Mr Flegg on her phone at 10.53am on the evening of April 19, 2012.

She said she heard nothing in the background

Ms Heath said she was talking to Mr Flegg on the night of April 19, 2012.

She agreed Mr Flegg told her to turn her television down because he thought he heard a scream.

“I said he needed to go have a look and he went to go have a look out the front,” she said.

I would like to believe that this man has not completely destroyed his family, that he did not wilfully deprive his 3 darling girls of their mother......I just can't find any other reasonable explanation! I knew Allison and those girls were her all. She would not have willingly left them -via suicide or other means.
Listening and watching....most people are like me. We lived, worked and socialised in the community with them....how could we have missed how awful he really was? Smarmy salesman yes, wife abuser, adulterer - never in a million years.
Those girls will carry this always and I hope and pray they find some way of dealing with this reality.

OK, now I get it. 3 seconds call to Kate R wouldn't have been long enough to establish ABC was to meet her at the office at 8am would it? GBC told the police he didn't know that, Allison hadn't told him when they discussed it the night before, she'd just said she was leaving home at 7am. They asked what time he called Kate, he said "Ten past ni-, seven"

No record that GBC called Kate after that. Did Kate call GBC to enquire where ABC was?

Correct. Kate called GBC to enquire where ABC was.

I think he is guilty, and that he will be found guilty at the end of the trial.

I think the evidence of the injuries to his body, the blood and hair in the car, the insurance, and his early reaction are all strong indicators of his guilt.

His inadequacies as an man, husband and father have been illustrated- the affair, the failing business, (there are lots of good reasons why businesses fail, but, as far as I can tell, there really wasn't in this case), the lack of support, and undermining of his wife, "belting" his girls, well, he didn't really provide anything but crap for his family, did he? His treatment of the business partners was awful, and even his treatment of his long term mistress was characterised by dishonesty and shabbiness. (I know the jury might not hear all of this)

Allison knew all about his failures and short comings, remember at one point he told a counsellor that he had blamed her for the disappointments in his life. (Considerable by the time of Allison's death)

He had the means, motive and opportunity.

Something had to happen that night, after Toni's call.
The life insurance was running out.
His attempt to secure the lifeline 300k loan had been unsuccessful
(His neck was smarting)

If there is no confession, the jury will have to read between the lines, and connect the dots. I feel confident that they will be provided with enough information to do this. The arrest was a long time coming, it is a strong case.

Although I had forgotten about GBC having 3years army training ( and I'm absolutely sure that this would involve abseiling with wounded comrade strapped to ones back ) I still have great difficulty believing that he could achieve this without an accomplice . Mainly because it was such a risk to leave the children un attended at home . I think there is some truth to be found in all the unnecessary added extras to his conversations with police . All those seemingly irrelevant comments , are absolute truth . Compensating for the lies

But she did remember the conversation, which happened before anyone knew anything was amiss.

Completely off topic, sorry, but need to vent. Have just come home from one of my kids football games and there was a drama. Parents should NEVER start throwing insults and chasing after and threatening to hurt other parents! I get that you feel angry if your child gets hurt, but really, it's a kids game. No need for this ridiculous drama and police calling etc, etc. Set an example and grow the f up! Have any other WS'ers been through this? Just saying. End of rant! X

At that time of the morning, it takes between 15-20 minutes to drive to the Century21 office in Taringa. Maybe 25 minutes if traffic is REALLY heavy.

But just getting back to those screams and who heard what and when...

I still have serious doubts about our MP friend and his claim to have heard the "blood-curdling screams" around 11pm or just before.

I know I've posted this before, but I just find it REALLY odd that the one person - the only person - who lives in that direction from the BC house and a good 1.5-2Km away, is the ONLY person who hears that. And it just happens to be:

1. Somebody who knows GBC via both property dealings and via the Chamber of Commerce

2. Somebody who has just knocked GBC back for a $300,000 loan

3. Somebody who then lends GBC a phone

I'm just not a great believer in coincidences......

So what's your take on this Doc? You've mentioned this a few times. It is a long way from the house to hear those " blood curdling screams", so given that there was a bit of political argy bargy going on, or about to be, do you think maybe he was trying to raise his profile and his community awareness in saying this? Personally I question how he said that he had a friend staying with him and couldn't wake him. Just too odd... Welcome your thoughts on this.
