I'd guess as Europeans, they'd both have had a decent enough grasp of English. CB certainly has (from the evidence of his letters). Most (travelled) Europeans have English as a second language.

That's beside the point, obviously. It's the specifics in LC's testimony that are making it all very shady for me.

We have no idea exactly how random a person might be to another either in the prison system or in the outside world of crime.
CB had fingers in a lot of pies; perhaps LC did too.

it was the BKA who wanted him there though not FF. I am curious as to what he was actually meant to testify about?
