American Bakari Henderson was killed by a group of as many as 15 men because of an argument over a selfie at a bar on a Greek island, police said.


A confrontation began after Henderson, who was vacationing with friends, asked to take a picture with a waitress, and quickly escalated into a fistfight involving other customers and two bar employees, Greek police spokesman Theodore Chronopoulos told The Washington Post. The 22-year-old recent graduate of the University of Arizona was fatally beaten in a span of just 30 seconds, Chronopoulos said.

At least the Greek police moved pretty quickly to arrest these guys. Maybe not surprising. With Greece's economy in shambles, they absolutely cannot afford to have their resort areas appear to be unsafe. But this crime is just sickening. Regardless of what instigated it, Henderson was clearly trying to run away when that mob attacked him.

“They kicked and punched him to his body and his head,” he said. “His death came from hits in his head.”

The fight stemmed from a selfie. Greeces is in total shambles and they cannot risk letting this crime unsolved since it involves a tourist.

This article, and others, reveal it wasn't locals who killed Henderson, it was other tourists.

Doing a bit of research, he was killed in the resort of Laganas on the island 'Zante'. Laganas is notorious as a cheap party destination for people under the age of 25, primarily from the UK, but also for other Europeans. Booze is sold very cheaply, people routinely drink to excess.

The Greek prosecutor is retrying the case and asking for increased penalties. Most of the men were released from prison upon completing their previous sentences.

Yet..... the interview mentions that 7 are being re-tried. I wonder if that means they have them in custody? I hope so.
