Missing From: Section, Alabama

Haleigh's photo is shown age-progressed to 13 years.

Haleigh and her mother, Kimberly Whitton, were last seen on June 21, 2007.

Kimberly's truck was found near the log home she and her husband were building on their rural property, which is down a dirt road about a mile off a Jackson County highway.

A search was done for their bodies, covering 40 acres of the family property near Section Alabama. The site has a small sawmill where Whitton cuts lumber. A pond on the 40 acres belonging to Whitton was drained. Cadaver dogs were brought to the site to search it. The search was called off after finding nothing.

During the search, investigators found blood on a hatchet handle and in one of Whitton's pickup trucks. Also recovered five weapons, including a loaded rifle and shotgun.

Whitton said the last time he saw his wife and stepdaughter he gave them $20,000 and they left his house after loading their belongings in a white van. Family says she did not own a white van and her truck was found on Whitton's property.

Kimberly's husband Barry Whitton was arrested on a weapons charge is a suspect in the disappearance of his wife and stepdaughter. Whitton, who wore a beard and dressed like an Amish farmer, lived in the log cabin on the property. Federal authorities said Whitton, convicted of receiving stolen property in 1988 and 1991.

Barry Whitton's 11-year-old son, Ethan, by his first wife Michelle, was placed in the custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Nearly 10 years earlier, the body of Barry Whitton's first wife, Michelle Townsend Whitton, was found in a shallow grave covered by rocks in the hills of a neighboring town. Police never made an arrest in that case or disclosed how she was killed.

Barry Whitton told authorities she failed to return home after going to a fast-food restaurant the previous month.
