NAMUS has him listed as missing from Honolulu, Hawaii: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/16959/

Here is some information from another site. It is not stated if Howard was an active duty soldier or a former soldier. The photo of him in uniform may have been taken some years before he disappeared.

Note that while his home and family lived in Connecticut, most sites state that he went missing in (or from) Hawaii.

The red and yellow patch on his left sleeve (above his PFC rank chevron) looks like the insignia of the 25th Infantry "Tropic Lightning" Division, which was home stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

If he went missing while on active duty, he would even today be listed as a deserter on Army rolls.

Not too much information regarding circumstances.

They don't know what state he disappeared from, it seems. I wonder why? I think the military picture may be the only picture they had of him if he didn't visit often. Since he is a Sr, he must have a son with the same name.

A newspaper clipping from 25 Sep 1960 says he served as a medical technician with the 97th Medical Detachment in Frankfurt, Germany. He had come home to Shelton, CT on leave in 1960.
He graduated from Harding High School. He enlisted in the Army in Sept 1959.

Funny, I've lived in CT all my life and never heard of this case before stumbling upon it right now...

If he did indeed disappear in Shelton, that area is surrounded by state forests. IMO it would be pretty easy to hide out (or to be attacked, body left, etc.)

I wonder if the publicity of his divorce via the newspaper weighed heavily on him and he committed suicide?
