The Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) has failed to shed light on the mysterious death of a 15-year-old student who had reportedly participated in anti-extradition bill protests.

Chan Yin-lam, a newly-admitted HKDI student, was last seen by her friends in Mei Foo Sun Chuen in Kowloon at 2:15 pm on September 19, Apple Daily reported on October 11. Ten minutes later, she sent a short message to her friend saying she was going home. The teen never arrived.

On September 22, the marine police found a naked female body floating in a pool of water in Yau Tong. On September 24, the police published a public notice regarding its search for Chan on behalf of her parents.

On October 9, police confirmed that it was Chan’s body. On October 10, her body was cremated by her parents.

============

Police: it was suicide

Rumours: she was killed and dumped

College: under pressure to supply CCTV to the community, but could not deliver to their satisfaction

This was roughly where her body was found by marine police.

This was the approximate route that police alleges that she took, from her college to the waterfront park, from where she was supposed to have jumped.

All my interpretations

On the YouTube channel from Fight For Freedom Black Head Down the CCTV footage of her last evening was posted. She is obviously supposed to meet some one at the school at 18:00, but this did not happen. She gave it an hour of walking around, and left at about 7. You can see how she looks up at 18:43 when she is hanging around the lift (again) on the 7th floor. When the liftdoor opens and a boy walks out, you can see how she looks up, hopefully. But it is not him (or her) she was waiting for. The whole time she wanders around, and some people view this as if she is contemplating suicide, but it looks much more like somebody waiting and searching for her (boy)friend.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 visual media student at the HKDI spoke to reporters on Tuesday, saying that he might have seen Chan between 7pm and 8pm on September 19, wearing a similar outfit to the figure in the CCTV.
He said she was slowly walking barefoot inside Tiu Keng Leng MTR Station without any belongings: “But she looked like she was searching for someone, because she was looking around in all directions horizontally.”

Does anyone know if they found her clothes anywhere? If she really did strip and commit suicide wouldn't they have been found close by the water?

There are so many theories.

At this following link, there is a listing and links to all 16 CCTV videos released by the college on 16th.

  • This is in Chinese, but well worth running a translator with
  • The writer is a former editor of a popular Hong Kong news channel
  • He links to MSM for fact checks; he made a very comprehensive timeline; he even uses Occam's razor with his analysis. Very much a websleuth!
If anyone wants to skip the translation and go straight to the CCTVs, here are the links

That is one of the main suspicious aspects.

No one has claimed finding her clothes. If police found them, they did not say when they mentioned her route ending at the waterfront park.

There is supposed to be a coroner enquiry.
