    1. See if we could get Tricia or Mods (whomever is in charge) to add a little blurb + link to Jason Doe's Forum under the "Note from Websleuths Staff" at the top of the websleuths.com/forums web page. That may get more people here at Websleuths interested in his case.

    2. Perhaps we could FAX/Email a letter (we would have to compose one) to local sheriffs offices and ask them to release it to local media. We would need to have volunteers in each state and for larger states we would need to break it down to counties and possibly even cities. For example: I could volunteer to take Utah and I would FAX/Email a letter to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office and ask them if they would release it to the local news media stations throughout the Salt Lake Valley. I would also cover Southern Utah, and Northern Utah, etc....I am wondering if we were to FAX/Email it to LE if they would be more likely to release to media and then media would pick up the story as opposed to us sending the letter out to media???

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I know Jason needs to get national coverage, but, I am really not certain how to go about this? It doesn't seem like CNN, FoxNews, etc., are interested in picking up this kind of story.

This is the frustrating thing with all of these Does. I really wish there would be a feature every once in awhile like with the Alcala photos. CNN or whomever could post 25 or so photos along with corresponding information in an online article. At least more people would be exposed to seeing some of these folks and might start to understand the magnitude of the problem.

It never ceases to completely blow my mind how many UIDs there are in the US. Just mind boggling, really.

This is a portion of an article that ran shortly after a deck collasped on a group of people who were attended a Grateful Dead show on Saturday, July 8, 1995.

Because this story about the deck collaspe went out to the media immediately, the hospital was swamped with phone calls wondering if this boy could be their son. There were so many people who had lost contact with their child because they had ran off to follow the Grateful Dead. This boy was lucky. His friends were going from hospital to hospital looking from him. When his friends arrived at this hospital they tentatively identified him as their 17-year-old friend. They gave the hospital his parents phone # and his parents who lived 262 miles away arrived at the hospital later and identified the boy.

My main point is that because the story got out so fast, the results were greater. I also know it went out to the media because the deck collapse was a bigger story than a car accident would be.

Does anyone know if any calls came in after Jason died of anyone thinking Jason could be their son?

This is the part that has always bothered me about this case. If "Jason" were as young as they believe he was, wouldn't someone be looking for him? Wouldn't his picture be all over the news someplace? I remember that the police said that his teeth were in perfect condition. To me that sounds like someone took very good care of him growing up. Lord knows, that dental care costs a lot. So were are these people now? I'm completely baffled.:twocents:

Maybe they are looking...just haven't found him yet. They may be in a state that hasn't heard his story yet. :(

Yes, I guess your right. But, his story was on the news when this took place. It was even on Unsolved Mysteries=0(

Maybe his parents are members of a separate people, such as the Amish. If he left home as a teen, he might have been shunned by his community. His parents wouldn't be looking for him, and wouldn't have a TV, radio, or newspaper. If he wasn't exposed to candy and sugar growing up, his teeth might have been in great condition. IDK - MOO

These are going to sound odd, but given the age estimate at the time, and therefore the estimate of the age of his peers NOW, I can think of a couple of decent ideas for getting this story out:

    1. Contact Dave Matthews Band and/or ATO Records (his label) and ask if they would include a handout or internet "flyer" for their shows over the next year
    2. Contact Phish and/or Trey Anastastio and ask the same
    3. Related to #2, see if Phish can use its friendship, or just ask directly, to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream (even though it is technically owned by a big corporation now) and ask them to put his bio on a special edition of ice cream, kind of like the first milk carton missing kid.

Respectfully, I think it might not be this off-the-ordinary, but a scenario more like Jason Doe got busted by his parents for smoking pot one too many times and they were totally sick of it and said, "We love you. Do what you want. Let us know when you get your act together."

Plenty of parents who (over) reacted like that to kids I knew then (and I am the same age as Jason Doe). Parents were usually very rigid, overly strict, with kids who really weren't "Bad" kids, just doing stupid stuff b/c their parents were going to find fault with them anyway, so they may as well enjoy themselves, since their parents were never going to be satisfied anyway.

I could list a ton of boys that I grew up with where I doubt they have any contact with their parents to this day. Too judgemental, too unaccepting, & too into their own view of the world to accept that their kids might not have been exactly what the parents expected.

My daughter is going to see about getting posters up in the Playa at Burning Man or passing them out. The only thing is if they were to be passed out there would need to be over 20,000 copies made. Burning Man doesn't happen until the end of August.

Boy, I may have to get real creative if we want to get anything posted at Burning Man. My daughter is waiting to hear back from ranger about what is allowed and what isn't.

So far today I've sent email to 3 local news stations about Jason's story. I hope I hear back from them, we shall see. I wish these folks would make their contact information easier to find on their websites :snooty: I am going to send out a few more emails to local stations and then work on the national ones.

I'm doing this while I'm dreaming up if I actually want to tackle trying to design a piece of art for a Burning Man project. They are more likely to accept that. I am fairly certain that they won't allow the passing out of some 50,000 flyers. The dust storms there would blow the flyers from there to eternity.
