Maybe Otto can draw up some maps of the quickest ways to get out of town? Hint hint.

:gthanks: Another great map, otto!

I don't think southbound on I-380 would have been a quick route because of traffic delays due to the road construction.

Anyway, look what I found. There are several of these cameras along I-380 in the area. I hope they keep the film.

@ Marnie. I read this as TB talking about what the perp knew about the area.

"They know the area very well, watched the girls go around the lake. He knew how to access the back because he seen them heading down there."

I think when she says "they know...it is the same person as "he knew"...

While she later said the girls had been to the lake with the neighbor's kids, there has been no information that the girls knew the area well.

MOO

ETA: I think TB was right on in her theory.

True. She really jumped around in that interview, so it's kind of tough to follow sometimes when she is saying "They".

Even if the girls didn't know the area well, T also says: "And I could so feel that somebody had come down here, had been watching the girls for quite some time -- whether it even started as they left Heather and Mom`s place -- they`d been following them and watching them, seen them come down here".

This of course is her own conjecture but that sentence intimates that T seems to think that someone was laying in wait because the girls had been that back route before. The perp very well may have been following the girls for a time and must have either: followed the girls via the back route to the lake and saw his "spot" and seized the opportunity (first time back that way for both he and the girls???)....or was a local who already knew the "spot", the relative seclusion it provided. I'm going with the latter.

I thought a local said both of those freeway exits were closed due to the construction. I don't know if that means the entrances were closed too. I hope a local chimes in and we can clear that up.

It's in the first link of my post.

Strikes me as pretty definitive. They could have said, "may be", or "could be"; but they are saying "is".

So, they are looking for someone who "arrived" and "departed" the "area" by vehicle, who fits the above description, i.e., someone no one might suspect of being "capable" of such a thing.

So turning that around, what about a person would make people think they are capable? Think of what that would look like and then take the opposite view.

MOO

ETA: So what kind of person "known by many people" would one consider not "capable" of abducting the girls? Interesting.

I agree...they already have a POI/s, a theory, they just need that one piece of solid evidence to PROVE IT...such as a vehicle.

Thinking out loud here...

They can't find the van.

:banghead:

I think it's more likely that the girls were taken out in the country somewhere and not into Waterloo or another town. There is so much open land in the area that's just outside of Evansdale.

Here's a pic of MORE traffic cameras in that vicinity:

I believe that the traffic cameras only take pictures of the lisence plate of speeding violators, but am not 100% sure. If this is the case, hopefully, if the perp was fleeing on this route, he either was speeding or was captured in someone else's speeding picture.

I think they were taken straight to Elk Run Heights.

Is that N, S, E or W?

This depends on motive.

Which we don't know.

From the lake, you would go East on Gilbert to McCoy Rd. Turn Left (N). It is just up there.

ETA: If you get to McCoy and turn right (S) and follow to the end, you end up in a very remote area by the river.

BBM

Do you think that LE is looking for a white van, or just any van?

LE released video of the driver of a white van (who quickly came forward and was apparently cleared by LE). I wonder if LE is focusing specifically on a white van, or if it is just coincidental that the man's van was white.

In other words, if that man had been driving a purple Pinto rather than a white van, would LE have still been interested in talking to him? Was it only his white van that made LE want to talk to him?

Maybe it doesn't matter.:waitasec:

A van that was white on the day, at least.

They very specifically wanted to speak to a white van driver, not a purple pinto driver, which implied to me that a white van was most likely used.

They are the most common after all, therefore the most likely to be accessed anyway, for someone who has gone to the planning trouble our perp appears to.

I believe the entire thing was planned to within an inch of its life, the girls barely even reached the lake, two different sets of bikes were involved, also the staging of scent designed to distract and steer the investigation.

I believe the LE need the abduction vehicle, most likely the white van, and cannot find it.

It probably contains the girls.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Yes, there are. That's what I wrote in my post.

The cameras do not take pictures of anyone speeding and they aren't capable of focusing on a license plate. You can read about the cameras here:

http://www.iowadot.gov/i-235/tripguide_media_kit/faqs_tripguide.pdf

Unfortunately, they do not keep the tapes/photographs.

A van that was white on the day.

There have been other reports of a white van man in his 60's
attempting to take children. in the recent weeks they are posted on here.
I know the white van at the store was ruled out but not the others.

There have been lots of media reports of attempted abductions involving a white van, but I don't know how many of these are actual attempted abductions and how many of these are panic/hysteria or misunderstanding.

If all of these reports are true, LE needs to make that very clear to the public. JMO
