Found Deceased IA - Jake Wilson, 16, La Porte City, 07 Apr 2018 *autistic*

It seems like in most cases I've followed, the next step is a thorough review of the case. Often there will be other agencies (FBI specialists, state resources, etc.) called in to consult.

I'm deeply concerned that he's going to be found some months from now in a remote park, like Lyric and Lizzie...

I'm afraid the same will happen, carbuff.: /

First, bumping.

Second, I helped search for Jake on the last day they had volunteer searchers (day 4 I think). I helped search a swath of dense woods just outside of town and ended up being in line next to his grandpa (if I remember correctly) and a longtime family friend. I've lived very near Laporte for my entire life and I figured I could clear things up for some posters.

So, first, even though it was cold and snowy the day after Jake went missing IIRC it was actually a decent day the day he went missing. Also the coat he was wearing was not just a thin coat. Lots of farmers wear that style of coat and they are very warm, so he was not underdressed.

Second, Laporte is a very small town where everyone knows everyone. If his walk to the creek was only 2 blocks away that is not far at all. They are small blocks so it was maybe a 5 to 10 minute walk max. Plus it's likely most people on the way that he might run into would know him or know of him, so presumably "safe" individuals (or at least the family would certainly assume so, it's their neighbors, they likely see them often). Also it was stated by the media, so take this as you will, that he had just started beginning to do things like ask to go out on his own for small amounts of time. The family wanted him to have some independence and wanted to foster this as he was 16 so a walk 2 blocks away was a safe way for him to do that. Again this was thru media so do with it what you will.

Also the searchers worked incredibly hard thru difficult areas and even though they aren't stating one way or the other that they are looking at foul play, I believe they are looking at all angles equally. They just put so much effort into the river searches because that's the only info they've really had as far as the general public knows. I do know as I was leaving the search the day I was there they were actively searching even locked empty for sale houses and all the out buildings and garages by the river that they could.

Thanks for sharing this:)
My heart breaks for his family:(
ETA even more so because they wanted to improve his self esteem....don't even want to think about it:(

LordanARTS on YouTube has a good summation of this case.
He is pictured with his brown jacket which he was last seen wearing.

Question...
Does anyone find the jacket (zip up sweatshirt) really inappropriate for a walk at night?
Temps for Iowa City, IA on Saturday, April 7th was a high of 42 and low of 16.

Did he have long sleeves on underneath the zipped up hoodie?

Namus only has the hoodie, sweatpants and cowboy boots listed.

Interesting. I guess it is possible his mom doesn't remember the shirt. I don't know if 42 would be too cold for just a hoodie? I am trying to remember when I switched to a hoodie. I live in Minnesota, so 42 might have felt "warmish" enough for a hoodie... I guess if it was 42, sunny, low wind, and he didn't plan on staying away from home, too long... it would've been okay? A person's weight also determines how cold they feel outside. My brother is over-weight and doesn't wear a heavy coat during winter, he gets too hot.

Is it a Carhartt jacket? or is it a hoodie? Do you have a photo?

Also, teenage boys don't seem to feel the cold the way middle-aged women like me do :D I remember a number of times when I'd be chilly in a jacket and my sons would be bouncing around in t-shirts.

If he had the hoodie zipped up, they wouldn't know what if anything he was wearing underneath. It would cover everything.

Now that I looked closer I think it's a thick zip up hoodie, not a carhartt like I originally thought. It does appear to have a black lining in the image I've seen, so it might be warmer than it looks.

I know on the day we searched, 4 days in, it got from 30 to 70ish in the 4 hours I was there. I'm pretty sure it was warmer the day he went missing than it had previously been, so it was probably warm enough for a short walk in a warm hoodie. IIRC they expected him to be back within 30 minutes.

At this point do we believe he is in water? What do people think happened as of now?
IMO, from as much as they've searched and re-searched, the way they've searched the river, I personally don't think he's in the water. It's certainly possible he still didn't meet with foul play, but it certainly seems more and more possible as time goes on. When are different hunting seasons? As sad as it is, if he is out there in the woods they are the best bet for finding him (like the Evansdale girls).

ETA also we've had a lot of flooding lately. I'm not sure if that helps or hinders the situation. I know at first they said that could help if he were caught in one of the many tree snares, but at this point...

Temps were high 42, low 16 for that Saturday. Next day only got up to 35, low 16. Coldest temps are before dawn usually, and warmest about noonish on a winters day. I'm guessing once the sun went down at around 7:30 it dropped into the 30s.

When we say foul play do we think he wandered off and got hurt on accident, that he was picked up and taken, or than he was the victim of some sort of hate/ bully violence.

Thanks for the photo. The hoodie does look thick, doesn't it? I am sure that he would have been okay in the hoodie. Probably not in 16-degree weather or lower... I think Jake wasn't planning on staying outside for a prolonged period of time. And, I doubt his mom would allow him to wear it... if he planned on staying out longer.
