Why though? I can see all kinds of reasons they haven't released that that have nothing to do with skillful investigation. Just two that come immediately to mind: the dog was located right away and they're not bogged down in inconsequential details and have been too busy to realize this is an issue with a minority of people following the case. Another is that the dog's location wasn't known right away for whatever reason and they don't yet know if that plays a part in the investigation so they want to keep it close to the vest.

Until we know more, I don't think we can say that small detail correlates with their investigative competence.

All MOO.
I think more of what you said favors my point.
And if they can't narrow the time that the dog went into city, county or state control, within 12 hr window, due to releasing to much info during an on going investigation, I just feel mayhaps the investigation don't know.
That was a run on sentence.

Madison Mogen had a pair of pink cowgirl boots that are still displayed in the window of her rental home near the University of Idaho campus.

Image of window at link.
From your linked article:

"Two roommates, who were asleep on the ground level, were not attacked. Neither was a pet dog in the home."

This indicates the dog was in the home at the time of the murders.

wouldn't the survivors wake up? One of the 1st fl bedrooms is directly below E and X.
Again with the Danny Rolling stuff, but he walked right up to one roommate asleep on the couch, stood over her for a bit, then left her there to go upstairs and kill the other roomate.

He then went back down and attacked the first roommate as she was still sleeping on the couch.

It could happen….

I’m attaching a couple of more photos from Google earth of the victim’s home and the apartment buildings and houses around it. I think early on when the photos of the investigators were taken, they were scoping out all possible lines of sight (LOS), looking at the driveway that went up beside the scene to the back lot, and looking for cameras. One photo also shows an investigator looking over towards the house to the right of 1122 King Rd. from directly behind the house, (not up in the back lot).
Very helpful. Thank you.

The dog is a curiosity for me because of the information given out about the phone calls:
1. ~10 calls made to the co-owner of the dog before the murders;
2. the calls to friends because there was an "unresponsive" person; and
3. the LACK of information given out about the 911 call.

Just tryin' to make sense of those calls....the dog can help explain some of it.

That information was released by family, not LE and I believe the sister indicated K has a long history of similar phone habites. I did read in something one of the press conferences that LE indicated the late night calls were not considered related to the murders.

Several people were stabbed to death at a party in Calgary several years ago and I wish I could find one very interesting article. A psychologist was asked why nobody stopped the attacks and why those who died did little to save themselves and they spoke to the lack of life skills leaving the victims unable to process the situation. I suspect that the same would apply to the 911 call and I suspect it offers quite a few details that investigators don't want released (placement & condition of bodies?) because it may compromise the investigation.

From my time as an emergency dispatcher, 'unresponsive' is a common term for a couple reasons. Only certain people can legally declare someone dead (roommates wouldn't be one of them) and it keeps people from listening to scanners from sharing information before family members are notified.

I think everybody is trying to make sense of the situation but without inside information on the investigation, very little will make sense and expecting LE clarify minute, possibly unrelated incidents wastes manpower that could be used to follow up credible tips.

If he entered on the third floor, that would change my thinking about who the target was, but I doubt that he entered on the third floor. That would be pretty unusual. It isn't impossible, but I think that finding a way in on the 2nd floor would have been easier than climbing up to that balcony.
I just think if it w

the difference is ur talking about 2 people w E and X. Think they had to be killed by surprise to not wake anyone.

Maybe it's someone who lives in the area, walks their dog frequently by the house enough to study the occupants, looks at Zillow for the exact layout of the rooms and has worked at a job near two of the victims. Maybe they are enjoying the limelight by continuing to do awkward, creepy interviews with the media only solidifying a criminal profile that behavior analysts and criminologists have given all along. I expect some search warrants to be issued soon.

Exactly! Trivia for you Crime Junkies
What and When was the last case where all these things happened?—
- multiple people killed
- brutally killed
- In their own residence
- in an urban area, there are neighbors
- during the night
- victims have no criminal history
- no connections to drugs, mafia, cartel
- no burglary
- no sexual assault
- no one seems to have heard or seen anything
- two weeks goes by without any POI

This situation is quite rare, how can anyone feel safe if they cannot ensure their own safety in their own home?
That is why this has our attention, IMO
Gee family murders.

They did this where I live when they were looking for Derrick Todd Lee - they were looking for a man driving a white truck and asked for male owners of white trucks in a certain age range to provide dna. They went door to door requesting from them if I remember correctly. ETA to add link for reference: Innocent Suspects Worry About DNA Sampling
Didn’t they get DNA from dozens of men questioned in the Scarborough Rapist case, including from Paul Bernardo? I don’t think it was required, though. I imagine most were willing to submit to clear themselves.

Hi Everyone,
Forgive me for interrupting but this is important. Please do not post questions about this post on this thread. Go to THIS THREAD to ask questions.

DID YOU KNOW BY THE END OF THE DAY OUR MODS WILL HAVE HANDLED HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF ALERTS? YOU WOULD NOT KNOW THIS BECAUSE THAT IS HOW GOOD THE MODS ARE AT THEIR JOBS.

One of the many things I love about Websleuths is we can come on here, discuss true crime, and not have to deal with all the stupid drama and baloney we have to deal with on other platforms. Do you know why? It is the hard work of our wonderful volunteer moderators.

Because of these incredible moderators, you don't see the following, the trolls that constantly try and disrupt. You don't see the newbies who don't know the rules and post a bunch of unproven rumors in cases, You don't see the mean people insulting your posts, you don't see the stupid threats angry people post, and guess what? I could go on and on. In other words, the mods make your experience the best you can find when it comes to discussing true crime.

If you could donate even one dollar that would be great. If half the people that come to Websleuths today donated one dollar we would be able to give the mods a wonderful bonus for all their hard work.

One hundred percent of the money raised goes to the moderators.

If you cannot donate we completely understand. If you could please post a word of thanks to our mods on THIS THREAD that would be wonderful.

....and if one can not or will not release the time of when one found a dog, I seriously consider everything else one has said.
Really? I'm happy the pupper is safe, and unless he was picked up with a chunk of the killer in his mouth, I don't think the investigation at this point needs to share any more info about him.

I also think killer was mentally focused and physically quick during the attacks, and all four victims died almost immediately upon being stabbed. opinion only.
This is my thought, too.

Also, to own a knife of that caliber indicates some finesse and know how. In that neck of the woods, many folks know how to hunt and dress prey. I think the initial victims were probably dispatched very quickly (in my mind this would be the second floor, X and E), and the last victims receiving more rage and overkill.

No matter what, this individual is VERY confident with his/her knife skills.

Going with a stranger killing (thrill kill some have said): there are 3 large construction sites in town right now (that I know of). 1. A large building for Schweitzer engineering labs, 2. Expansion on hwy 95 and 3. A huge Site development area possibly for new housing construction. These have brought folks to town that do not live around here. All three sites are practically touching the south end of the neighborhood area police outlined as the search area.
