Wild guess, but I think that LE is putting that out to prod the killer into a response. Icbw, but I described my theory in my first post on ws.

Editing to add my total conjecture:

Four people-that's brazen, that's a big calling card. Maybe that’s why LE (via the families, etc.) used the “made a mess” statement to bait him, hoping he'd respond. He’ll love all of the focus, but maybe irked by that “sloppy” remark, because (his thinking) if he’s so sloppy, why no footprints in and out? Why wasn’t there blood on the doors? How did he murder four people so easily and leave no obvious signs for the two he left alive?

this is wild guess on my part, but LE has gone through all of the predictable potential suspects and nothing, so maybe they, like I, think they're dealing with something different here. 2 FBI BAUs says something to me.

I am all in with the "sloppy" comment trying to anger the perp. Whoever did this wants to think they have mad skills to get away with it.

Though I very much doubt these murders were due to the proverbial $500.00 recreational drug debt, one might need to drive further into Washington than just across the state line to buy legal marijuana.

As you pointed out, weed is legal in Washington. But.... Washington evidently also allows for towns, cities and counties to effectively zone it out via declining to issue a permit needed for legal sales.

Idaho borders Washington to the east (more conservative part of the State). As a result, there could be limited poins of legal sale in the area.

Floyd’s is less than a mile across the state line. Right there on the Moscow/Pullman Highway.

I am not sure how much of a “party house” the girls residence was. K and M were repeatedly on the Deans List…not sure about the other girls. But, to get on the Deans List, one has to do a fair amount of studying And keep up with courses. imo, it is probably a typical University students residence with occasional weekend parties and during the university breaks having parties or friends over. And, there is a big different from inviting friends over and having huge parties. Jmo

I still think it’s one person , very close to one of the victims . I think that LE is letting the public think certain individual(s) are cleared to make that person think everything is ok now . I feel an arrest coming sooner than later . I understand the families are getting frustrated with LE not giving information but perhaps the killer is close to/with the family all this time …

I have kids at WSU in Pullman. I’ve driven from Pullman into Moscow many times. There is a marijuana shop about a mile before the Idaho border and another one closer to Pullman.

edit to add: I agree, I don’t think this has anything to do with any kind of drug debt. Having kids in another college town just a few miles away obviously makes me anxious for this horrible crime to be solved asap.

Do rentals like this home come furnished?

Remembering from my college days of years gone by and my son's current living conditions, the answer could well be a fuzzy:

- "Yes, but not really. But... on many occasions, sort of".

To my knowledge college apartments are very rarely, if ever, officially furnished (way too much wear and tear on furnishings to justify the hassle for a land lord).

But... unofficially, it is common for past tenants to leave a variety of furniture, pots, pans and flatware in these types of rentals when they move out.

The landlord then tosses the things that are unusable, but offers the usable items to the next tenant as an unofficially furnished apartment- whose individual furnishings are probably not going to win any Martha Stewart awards for quality and tastefully matching decor.

I still have nightmares in which I am in my old place with SGDs and cannot get the latch to lock.

I have sliders also and a very thick piece of wood that I always have so it can’t be opened ( and it locks )

Let’s assume K is the target. The killer breaks into the house through the second floor glass door and goes straight to the third floor and K‘s room. To his surprise K and M are sleeping in the same bed. Instead of running away, he chooses to kill both of them. It’s possible that one of the victims wakes up and makes enough noise to wake E who then goes to check whats going on. Maybe E sees the killer and rushes back to X’s room to grab his phone and call the cops. The killer forces his way inside and kills him and X before running away through the glass door.

That would explain why the other roommates weren’t killed regardless of whether one of them was sleeping on the first or second floor. Some people are heavy sleepers and won’t wake up. I’m one of these people. I need multiple alarms right next to my head and even then it’s not a guarantee of success. Other people are startled by the faintest noise.

Then again, it’s just a hypothesis based on nothing. It‘s all pure conjecture at this stage. We don’t know anything.

They were all asleep when they were killed according to the coroner. That would indicate that no one got up and confronted the killer or called anyone else.

Also, the flip side to this- when you are drunk, you may be the girl that says things more bluntly. I feel like I may be that girl lol! Won’t lie. Like, if you are weirding me out sober, I’m more than likely going to walk away from the situation but not tell you I’m weirded out. If I’m drunk, I’m going to make a point to let you know I’m uncomfortable and you are crossing the line! Not saying the girls made anyone mad and deserves this, saying maybe the girls were more blunt to turning someone away?

Right this is why i brought it up - I felt like something else could have potentially happen in the Club and Hoodie guy looked sober to me, so he helped escort them out the bar and wanted to look after them. MOO

Mine is being asleep and completely vulnerable, waking up after the initial attack. Jeebus, this case is triggering! Those poor kiddos

I keep seeing people say this and it surprises me. Did no one stay out super late in college or their early 20's and then sleep late the next day? It seems so common to me and doesn't surprise me at all that any of these kids would sleep until noon after being out the night before (unless they had a job to get to the next morning). This is actually one thing about this case that I don't find odd at all.

As a college misbehavior (hey, I went to uni at 16 and had my fun while working hard to a good degree and am successful as an adult), I know I'm not the only one who partied a little too hard and came out OK on the other end. Sleeping till noon was hardly the worst thing.

Exactly. And I believe any reasonable person would conclude that should require looking into details and comparing the evidence for a period longer than a mere 36 hours… they shot down even the possibility of a connection within less than two days… and I’m sticking by my opinion on this one.

What type of evidence do you think they need to find to make a conclusion that the two crimes are related?

Of course, I can only attempt to explain why the dog is so interesting to me:
1. I'm curious about the flurry of phone calls (perhaps the last phone calls) made by the two murdered best friends;
2. I'm curious why a dog with a known residence and a known owner ended up at Animal Services;
3. I would like to understand how you can wake up in a house with four murdered roommates and 911 is not your very first phone call.

I guess that’s my point. I’m not sure it actually matters for us to understand number 2 in relationship to sleuthing…. does it actually matter? would the answer help solve this crime? Number 3 isn’t dog related
Point 1? Yeah, I get it. I truly do… whether it’s related to the dog or not. My guess is that it isn’t related specifically the the events of the night. MOO

For one person to kill four people with a knife in like 15 minutes would take almost an Olympian level of physical conditioning. Or a soldier with previous experience in urban combat during wartime. So I think that we are looking at two or more people doing this.

I respectfully disagree.
To sane people that might seem the case. But a reasonably well-conditioned violent sociopath with good knife skills, and with no aversion to blood, could quite conceivably dispatch four people soundly asleep - two of whom we know had consumed significant alcohol, and so quite likely deeply oblivious - with minimal resistance. There's plenty of info online on how to kill efficiently, if one were so inclined.

One of the photos in this article shows the sliding door with two barstools interlocked on the floor. They appear to me to be wedged to keep the door from being opened. Same here, as well as the sliding windows in my college house even back in the 80's. I cannot imagine them leaving doors unlocked like some of us grew up with way back when. I guess LEO said "forced entry". So Sad!

Maybe just intelligent and organized to know how to balance studies and partying, even in college, it’s not like you are partying every night.

The problem is, they did update the 11/22 press release to say morning, but now they put night again. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the change, but I did message the City of Moscow’s Facebook page on 11/23 pointing out this discrepancy, just in case they wanted to know since they seem to be trying really hard to be factual. They didn’t respond (I didn’t think they would) but I do know someone with access to their messages saw it the same day because you can tell when it’s been read.

The police’s news release on 11/21 states:

On the night of the incident, officers located a dog at the residence. The dog was unharmed and turned over to Animal Services and then released to a responsible party.

Then the next release on 11/22 states:

Weird. Since they say “officers located a dog at the residence” there’s no reason to think LE was there the night before the crime took place. And LE wasn’t even there the morning of the incident. They didn’t arrive till the afternoon. If they didn’t find the dog until the evening, why the heck not? They say it was at the residence. Was it locked in a soundproof closet? Was it drugged? Was it on a walk-about all afternoon and wandered back home?
