According to a press release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Severo Luera of Tremonton, Utah was arrested, “on an Idaho felony warrant in connection with the triple homicide in Holbrook on April 4, 2013.”

Police did not refer to Luera as a suspect and did not specify what his relationship to the alleged crime might be. The release stated the investigation is ongoing and that further comments would not be made regarding the case at this time.

According to Utah state court records, Luera was charged recently with misdemeanor drug possession.
He was also found guilty of having a "vicious dog," a class C misdemeanor in Garland City Justice Court in 2010.

Suspect in 2013 triple homicide headed back to court

A suppression hearing is scheduled for Thursday at the Oneida County Courthouse. However, the venue could be changed to the Bannock County Courthouse in Pocatello. The decision on the location of Thursday’s hearing will be made on Wednesday.

The trial date has been changed multiple times because Luera has switched attorneys on several occasions. Currently, no trial date is set.

The second hearing to suppress statements made by a man charged in connection to a 2013 triple homicide at a pit bull ranch and marijuana growing operation in Oneida County ended Friday without a ruling from the judge.

The court requested counsels to submit written briefs no later than April 20 that summarize the arguments made by state prosecutors with the Idaho Attorney General’s Office and the defense attorney, Brendon Taylor of Pocatello, who represents Severo Luera, 39, of Garland, Utah. Luera has been charged with three counts of aiding and abetting a murder in the first degree and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree.

Once the briefs are received, the presiding judge in the case, Robert C. Naftz, has 30 days to issue a written ruling whether statements made to police on October 28, 2014, and several subsequent dates would be admissible if the case goes to trial. As of Friday, no trial date has been set in the case.
