I don't know if change will ever come to that place mikkismom its crazy violent and never ending. Listening to the scanner as I type this it's one report of shots fired after another. Just another Friday night in the urban jungle I guess. I really feel for some of the parents trying to raise children there.

I've been absent from this thread - working weird shifts.

I remember singing 'Bad Leroy Brown' (On the south side of Chicago, in the baddest part of town...) I just can't imagine that living in a place where people (including children) are shot regularly could be seen as 'normal.'

OK - maybe it's been that way forever - but how do we stop it? How do we stop it from growing like a cancer?

One thing is for sure- making sardonic comments about it won't help!

Such a senseless killing :( What a tragic waste of a precious life. Crimes against innocent children can never be justified, I cannot understand why anyone would ever hurt a sweet innocent child. When will these senseless tragedies stop?

    Rest in peace x

    An OP/Ed on 'fixing' Chicago:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...icago-edit-0921-bd-20140921-story.html#page=3

OT - We chose where we live because of the neighborhood and schools. Our Elementary school is a 10 out of 10. We hired a new HS Principal from another state. He organized a 'parent meeting' before school started for a 'meet and greet'. So many parents showed up, that it had to be moved from the library to the auditorium! Unfortunately, this much 'parental involvement' in schools is unusual. Kids are our future and should be treated as such, not disposable. :( JMO
