More than two years after 49 year-old Carla Burns was murdered, her family will be compensated for their loss. A judge has ordered 56 year-old Brian Burns to pay 11 million dollars to Carla's sons. The lawyer for the family, Steve Stone, says that verdict came in two parts. 10 million for her estate, and one million because Burns interfered with Carla's remains, causing emotional harm.

Burns is currently in the Saline County Jail awaiting trial on murder charges. Stone says this civil settlement cannot be used against Burns during that trial.

Trial date set for Harrisburg man accused of killing his wife, lawyer says he may seek venue change

After more than two years of hearings, conferences, attorney changes and new charges, Brian Burns, the former Harrisburg physician accused of murdering his wife and burning her remains, is scheduled for a jury trial this September.

The Sept. 19 date was set during a pretrial conference Friday. Previous attempts to set a trial date for the alleged 2016 crime have been beset with delays.

Former Harrisburg doctor accused of murdering his wife will not face psychiatric test before trial

A motion requesting a competency hearing for Brian Burns was withdrawn by his attorney Tuesday after his defense and the judge disagreed on whether the motion required an evidentiary hearing.

Burns’ jury trial was scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 23, with a final pretrial at 9 a.m. Jan. 11.
