On Monday, Heaton testified that he diagnosed Welsh with pedophilia and alcoholism after conducting a 3-hour interview and several tests last month. Heaton determined that Welsh was a “guarded and defensive individual” who sometimes denied committing the sexual offenses or justified his past behavior with drinking.

“He lacks an understanding of the dynamics involved in his offense behavior,” Heaton said.

Gezzzz and Heaton thinks this man is ready to be released! Maybe Heaton should take him home to stay with him and any daughter he may have....that idea could change his mind.

Hmmm....he can be held indifinitely if he is deemed to still be sexually dangerous. Waiting to hear how monitoring has anything to do with the fact that he is still deemed to be dangerous....why should anything change for him?

Pick someone who is not deemed to be dangerous, and who understands the "dynamics involved in his behavior." Reading between the lines, the guy seems to blame his preferences on his drinking. A classic set up for failure. Does the state hope to pad the recitivism stats by letting this now elderly man go? I mean if he is still holding on to the basics of what sent him to prison 50 years ago, I am at a loss as to why he should be let out now that he is older and frailer in appearance....

Thank you for the PDF link-it is interesting to read that he is a habitual offender as well as being sexually violent and he likes to fake test results to portray himself as incompetent.

I think this will wrap up today or tomorrow. It is the same judge as last time so I feel confident he will not be coming out though the judge shocked many people with a different case below re: Probation for man in sex abuse case.

I also found that the psychologist recommending this crud to get out may have been the same psychologist hired by the defense for rapist Christopher Hanson in Lake County IL in 2006. "Paul Heaton, a clinical psychologist who was hired by the defense,
testified that Hanson did not know he was committing a crime because
he had suffered a "blackout" at the time of the alleged assault." Even after Heaton's testimony Hanson got life, which he deserved. Why would a psychologist defend someone like this? Is it just for the money?

State urges judge to ignore experts, keep child killer locked up

next hearing March 18th. what is this judge thinking?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Judge says child killer must stay put for now

WOODSTOCK – A McHenry County judge ordered state officials to prepare a plan for conditionally releasing a 70-year-old convicted of murdering a 3-year-old girl in 1962.

Judge Sharon Prather today denied Gary Welsh’s request to be released outright. Rather, she ordered the Illinois Department of Human Services to compile a report on what services Welsh would receive if released on a conditional basis

Wife keeps husband’s police duty alive

    By JILLIAN DUCHNOWSKI - jduchnowski@nwherald.com

WOODSTOCK – Alice Nulle sat alone during a recent hearing on whether to release a 70-year-old man who told her husband how he raped and murdered a 3-year-old girl in 1962.

At first, Gary Welsh, then 23, told Nulle’s husband, Hank, that he didn’t know what happened to little Marlene Casteel.

Later, he detailed to Lt. Hank Nulle and two other police officers how he raped her and quieted her cries by suffocating her with a pillow.

This guy was/is a serial raptist. I wonder if there are any other crimes he could be connected too.

very recently in massachusetts a man accused of raping a small child was granted 10,000 bail, meaning he only had to post a 1,000 to get. out.
3 or 4 months later he's now accused of raping a 3 year old girl while out on bail.
seriously what is wrong with these judges? why cant anyone seem to learn that these sickos cannot be healed, cured, reasoned with, rehabilitated. arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh
if they let this sicko here out and he commits another rape or murder, all we'll hear from the idiot judge is 'how could i have known?' line.

I truly hope the judge doesn't think that this man is no longer a threat due to his age!

A 70 year old child rapist and child murderer is actually just as dangerous as one at 20 or 40.
