Authorities seek public's help in identifying victim of cold case murder
"Grundy County coroner John Callahan says the cold case has troubled him since he joined the office in 1994. Deputy coroner Brandon Johnson says a group of psychics recently said the woman may have been from Gary, Indiana.

The coroner's office plans to exhume the body in spring in an attempt to gather DNA evidence. Johnson says, "This is someone's loved one."

The woman was black, 18 to 23 years old, with a scar on her right hip"

I'm pretty sure I read an article stating DNA ruled out Lyrian Barry-Stalling as the Jane Doe. Unfortunately, I can't find the article now.

I think you are referring to this article -

But those hopes were dashed Wednesday when Grundy County Coroner's Officer learned that a DNA test revealed that the body was not that of a daughter reported missing four decades ago by a mom in Chicago. It wasn't the first time, as a Mississippi family made a similar report, but the dates and years have not matched up, said Brandon Johnson, deputy coroner.

Coroner's office: No DNA match in 1976 murder case

So that states that someone unamed from Chicago has been ruled out by DNA and missing from Mississippi (which would be Lyrian Wyvonne Barry) is no longer considered.

Did not other article state there will be exhumation in spring to get Jane Doe's DNA? I am confused now which article is correct or if they do or don't have her DNA.

Edit: Just to add after rereading few posts, yes, maybe they are trying to get additional information on DNA and evidence by exhumation. Hopefully dna evidence of killer too.

Please take a moment to look at these better images of the sweater found with the decedent. It appears to be a cardigan type-sweater. Unfortunately, there is no brand listed on a tag. There is a tag with a handwritten “L” and another tag with washing/drying instructions.

Note that the brand tag appears to have been cut.

Why would there have been a handwritten 'L'? Market sale?

I did an image revers search and google come's up with 'most likely woven fabric', although it looks more knitted to me. Could it be a Native American pattern? Maybe native American Aztec pattern design?

Had been thinking the same thing, the colours red, white and black are appropriate, imo. Somewhat surprised to see these NA designs are at a UK link. The design does seem to be Aztec.

Is there a post mortem photo? I find it easier to compare to possible missing persons.
It was in Namus when she was first listed there earlier this year. It is gone now or just not available to public anymore. Not sure if anyone saved it. I have not seen it but apparently it was very gruesome, probably due to her headshot wound.

Body exhumed in 42-year old cold case
Dec 20 2018
"GRUNDY COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- After several tips on a 42-year old cold case fell through, the coroner decided to exhume the body."

"This week, the coroner decided to exhume the body and send some remains to a Texas lab to retrieve evidence. They hope to have those results within a year."

Such good news....thumbs up for this wonderful human being. I hope this will bring her home.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan said Friday the case will be discussed at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 on The Vanished Podcast, which was created in 2016 by Marissa Jones to examine missing person cases. The podcast can be heard via iTunes or at: thevanishedpodcast.com.

Callahan, Jones and Deputy Coroner Brandon Johnson will speak on the podcast.

I've seen tags like that on higher quality handmade garments sold through craft and souvenir shops.

The RN number is for Alan Originals Inc. out of New York. Didn't have time to research more about the company.

Thank you, that is great information. I can't find anyting about that company so far unfortunately, only as listed in the same register at 34 West 27th Street, New York, NY 10001 which is office building with 12 stores in NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. Many different businesses on each floor. Link - 34 W 27th St, New York City | 42Floors

I wonder how big the company was and if they distributed around east coast mainly. Or if company was smaller and "artistic", it would narrow things down.
