Cigarette helps police nab suspect in brutal stabbing death of neighbor

Deputies watched Henslick for two days to try to obtain DNA evidence, authorities said. He was eventually seen discarding a used cigarette, which police recovered and sent to a lab for testing. Henslick’s DNA matched with the DNA evidence from the crime scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Is there a thread here, or should there be a thread here, about all the cases that are using DNA to solve their crimes due to the technology from the Golden State killer? Was just wondering if anybody had started one yet! I wish I knew how to do stuff like that.

I bet there are many people out there who did a one off violent crime or a series that have not been caught are getting very nervous with these advances in DNA technology. I hope they are living in a constant state of anxiety and fear until they are arrested.

Yes, I think people really avoid coming in for other charges knowing their DNA is going to be taken. He was being searched for a long time it appears and he was trying to avoid having his DNA taken on another charge.
