Family Fears Foul Play In Woman's Disappearance

Police said they were interested in a man Franklin told friends was threatening her last week, Elgas reported. Franklin was so scared, her friends added, that she did not want to sleep in her home, and she also filed a police report. Police did not comment much on that man, but said they were interested in talking to him.

I've got a blog entry up about Nailah's disappearance here:

    http://crimeblog.us/?p=560

Another blogger has the story here:

    http://blackandmissing.blogspot.com/

Nailah's MySpace was closed this morning, but it's been unlocked:

    http://www.myspace.com/missnailah

Her sister Marina will be a familiar face to anyone who watches a lot of Comedy Central:

    http://www.marinafranklin.com/

Read an article from CBS 2 that really makes the prospects for this pretty young woman look bad.

Well at first glance, it seems pretty obvious who the guilty party is (assuming she did not leave on her own). Sounds like there was quite a bit of security cameras where she lived. That should give LE a pretty good start. Let's just hope we don't find out that they were broken or there were no tapes in them (like so many other cases).

She looks like a beautiful woman that has a lot going for her. I hope they find her soon and safe.

Suspecting Foul Play, Police Search Pond For Missing Woman

Golf-Course Pond Being Searched By Police

Calumet City is just past the southern border of the city limits of Chicago. I grew up there, but its really gone downhill and is a bit of a scary neighborhood now. Prayers for this young woman and her poor family.

The search for a missing 28-year-old Chicago woman focused on a Calumet City golf course after her car was located Friday night across the state line in Hammond.

The Chevrolet Impala belonging to Nailah Franklin was located Friday night in Hammond, Chicago Police Department news affairs officer Marcel Bright confirmed.

Information as to where Franklin’s car was found in the city was not immediately available, he said.

Franklin, a 28-year-old pharmaceutical representative for Eli Lilly, was last heard from Tuesday when she sent a text message to friends and family, The Associated Press Reported.
Police visited Franklin's University Village apartment in the 1500 block of South Sangamon Street Thursday night and found several personal items missing, NBC5 reported.

Police Find Missing Chicago Woman's Car Near Abandoned Building

How far away from Chicago is Hammond, Indiana? Anyone know right off?

SewingDeb, Hammond is about 15-20 minutes away from Chicago.. but technically, only blocks away from what is considered Chicago's Southside.

    ~snip~

Her car, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, has been brought back to Chicago for forensic and evidence processing, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. The search and investigation are ongoing, he said.

Last week, Franklin, who lives in a condo in the 1500 block of South Sangamon, filed a police report saying she received phone threats, but she did not obtain a protection order. Police are looking at credit-card and cell-phone records and at two laptop computers found in her condo for any evidence of her whereabouts.

Police said they have interviewed the boyfriend.

Hundreds of people have joined the effort to find a young Chicago woman who has been missing for nearly a week.

CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports that family and friends of Nailah Franklin know that as more time passes, the less chance of good news in the search for the missing woman from Chicago's University Village neighborhood, but they're not giving up hope.

On Monday, the search shifted to downtown Chicago, where friends and family planned to hand out flyers about the missing woman.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit has been performing "surface searches" on all 27 miles of local shoreline for a missing Chicago woman whose car was found in Hammond, Ind. over the weekend.

The police Marine Unit has been using boats to perform "surface searches" from Evanston to Calumet Harbor, Ind. on and near the Lake Michigan shoreline, about 27 miles, according to Marine Unit Sgt. Robert Fitzsimmons on Monday morning.

"With the boat we run a couple hundred yards off shore, by the bricks and boulders, where you can’t see," according to the sergeant. "We haven’t done actual dives."

It's now hit the national media:

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/24/missing.woman.ap/index.html

Police stepped up their search for a missing drug sales representative after finding the 28-year-old woman's car near an abandoned building in Hammond, Indiana.

Nailah Franklin was last heard from Tuesday, when she sent an uncharacteristically vague text message to friends and family saying that she was having dinner and that she'd call later.

    She never did.

Days earlier, Franklin had filed a police report saying she had been getting threatening phone calls.
