Mom guilty of allowing sex abuse

A tearful Romeoville woman pleaded guilty Monday to letting her teenage son sexually assault a 10-year-old female relative, making her the third member of her now-disintegrated family to be found guilty of a felony in the case.

Stepp's son, Steven Stepp Jr., now 18 and serving a 25-year prison term in the case, more than once forced the girl to have sex with him when he was 15, Platek said. The girl told Donna Stepp, but she failed to prevent it from recurring and did not call police, he said.

Steven Stepp, 41, the boy's father, pleaded guilty in April 2006 to permitting the sexual abuse of a child. In exchange for agreeing to testify against his ex-wife, from whom he was divorced in May, Stepp is likely to receive a sentence of about 16 months in jail.

The couple has six children. The other five were placed in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

I am so sick and tired of hearing these low sentences! 25 years for the perp! 16 months for the mother who knew!! It is outrageous and the fault of the system, the judge, and the lawyers who plea bargain these low lifes down to nothing more than a slap on the wrist!

Here, we had a case where the mother held a pillow over her 11yo daughter's face while she was raped repeatedly by her biker boyfriend. The mother did end up with life in prison, but he only got 6 years for rolling over on other bikers!! He will be out in a couple of years and free to continue to abuse children again! Where IS the justice system?!?! And how can they even dare call this justice?!

The mother should be held much more responsible here, IMO! She allowed her son to abuse another relative child and did not stop it. She should have the book thrown at her, she is just as, if not more guilty, the boy was 15, she is the adult.

    Unbelievable. Again.

The article says a 10 YO female relative and that they had 6 children total so I wonder if this was one of her children?

if it was they may make a point of not saying it. once you release the parents name you risk identifying the child.

I took that to read that the father got 16 months in exchange for testifying against his ex-wife.

Exactly so saying "female relative" could mean its her daughter.

I think 16 months is a travesty. She should be locked up for 25 just like her son and listed as a sexual pred.

Your dang right about that. It flabbergasts me to see how many parents abuse and allow abuse to their children, they should be hung. Where's bakers when ya need her, LOL!

my grandfather was in his 70's when he started touching me. my mother said he was old and did not understand what he was doing. then she would leave me alone with him and go to work. all of you who think a man can not rape a child at this age without Viagra are wrong. i told her over and over and she still left me with him. she made excuses for him and left me there. she moved out to live with a boyfriend and left me there. i stayed til i was 15 and could leave on my own. it never stopped.

my mother was just as guilty as her father. the scars on my soul are just as bad from her as from him. to know the person who should protect you allows this to happen to you when you are a child destroys your faith in good people. it leaves you bitter and angry. i hate my mother more than i hate him. he was a sick pervert that had a mind so twisted and evil he enjoyed sex with a child. what was her excuse??? when i was 25 i got a call from my mother. her father was dying and wanted to see me. i told her no. she begged me. "you know you were always his favorite and he loves you and wants to see you 1 last time." i told her i hope they both burned in hell and hung up. i meant every word.

sorry i went on and on but when i read storys like this it is so hard to not feel overwhelmed by all the emotions they bring up.

sherri, you are a survivor not a victim! I am proud that you shared your story, fwiw.

I too was molested by my grandfather.

It is very hurtful to 'us' when parents know and don't protect, sometimes much more damaging and deeper issues to be worked through, a lot of times not coming through until later.

I too left home at 15.

Turn this around and be strong, help others, and know that out of everything bad can come good for those that just believe that! Break the cycle!

Sherri what a terrible story but wonderful that you had your final say.

Little OT pop psychology here... but I am guessing he did the same to your mother and her inability to deal with it is why she permitted it to happen to you. NOT an excuse at all!!!

And to add insult to injury she then moved out with a boyfriend??

Let me tell you she is winning no mother of the year awards!
Good for you for overcoming it:) :blowkiss:

    (((Sherri)))

Thank you for sharing your story. I know how hard it must be to do so. And like Amraann said - you got the last word. :blowkiss:

I caught the last 15 minutes of Dr Phil yesterday. It was about a grandfather who molested his 6 yr old granddaughter. She told her grandmother, who did nothing at all about it, did not even tell the little girl's parents. The parents found out and asked the grandparents if there was anything they wanted to tell them. The grandfather came out with it and admitted had he not be caught he would have kept on doing it. The parents ended contact with the grandparents... Part 2 of the story continues next week. I can not even begin to imagine why someone will not put a stop to it if they know it is happening. I just don't get it.

Many hugs to all of you survivors! :blowkiss:

Mreg2 - I watched that also. Those grandparents are total scum and behave like they are victims of 'Satan' and his evil doings. The gma basically said it was her fault - only after Dr. Phil totally berated her husband for dodging responsibility and hiding behind his faith - or a temporary lack thereof. They are vile people and I cannot wait to see the conclusion - I hope to God that child never sees that evil mofo ever again.

thank you for your kind words. i am ok talking about it. when i lost my son many years ago my husband pointed out i felt better when i talked about it and he thought it may help to speak about the abuse. i told him it was different because speaking of my son honored his memory but this different. there was no honor in this only shame. he made the point the shame was theirs not mine. by keeping it a secret i stayed the same scared child. by speaking about it i release the pain.

i married a very smart man.

My sentiments exactly! Yes, they are scum, bottomfeeders of society...and actually I was kinda ticked at the dad for feeling sorry for his dad and not his baby. I too can not wait to see the conclusion. I pray they don't allow this little girl to see her grandparents.
